Okay, brainstorming for Appa-Tax's castle.
It's a traditional sprawling stone villain castle on a windswept marsh.
There's a terrible animal (Qrystlcoatl? Elephrog?) that hunts during the day, so everyone in the region shelters in the castle while it's light out.
This means the castle hosts a kind of desperately festive party every day.
At night, the castle is lit up with torches and bonfires reflected off many mirrors, making it a beacon in the dark so people can find it.
And on the tallest tower, a T-Rex in red war paint plays the electric guitar.
Inside, the castle is crowded and dimly lit. A pounding drumbeat shakes the walls.
Appa-Tax's guards are selected for physical intimidation, but also for having mutant powers.
As previously established, the floor in front of Appa-Tax's throne is a panel that drops into the snaketopus's tank, which then rises up so everyone can watch.
The denizens in this layer of Umdaar are reptilian, mostly dinosaurian. Cyborg enhancements are common: metal jaws or limbs, mostly.
Appa-Tax presides over the party as a kind of celebrity MC / judge.
A major feature of the party is gladiatorial fights to the death between slaves captured from other layers.
Aspect?: Party louder than the beast at the door.
Correction: the T-Rex is playing an electric ukulele.
