12:13 PM
I'm not even checking XD
No hopes;_;

12:34 PM
@AjayMishra 11k for 125 :( ..Still, in the later rounds I hope to get chem...Cuz last year they had to go from 8k closing in first round to 10k closing in the seventh...And cutoff has been falling each year for chem
Does EWS mean seats are gonna increase for general people?

Good news!

@Dante What's that?

I cleared cutoff XD

What did u get?

Qualification

12:38 PM
@YUSUFHASAN No, that's different category.

@PolarBear @WilliamR.Ebenezer @AvnishKabaj @EshaManideep Congratulations!

@Dante You have huge reservations, you might get below 1k category rank.
3

@AjayMishra No what I have heard is...The EWS guys have separate seats for them when they apply under EWS...So, that means that the general seats are gonna remain open when they apply...Is this so?

Oh. Is qualification cutoff different for my category?
I didn't know that

Yes. Sure about that.

12:40 PM
Rank is 8.7 k

@Dante Bro...This is India's JEE Advanced...Of course u have got a much better category rank
@WilliamR.Ebenezer R u gonna use ur rank and take sthg at the IITs?

Maybe I'll get IIT gandhinagar mat. sc.. But not sure. I'd rather sacrifice IIT than give up preferred stream
@YUSUFHASAN what's your rank?
And btw I'm obc but I applied as general. i hope I don't regret this in the future

This is first list, it should get revised though @Dante

@WilliamR.Ebenezer 11.8k .. :(… Hope to get chem in later rounds as per previous year trends

@Dante marks?

12:44 PM
@WilliamR.Ebenezer So u wanna do engineering from which branch?

Mech/aero most likely

Ohh...So r u getting that at NITS/BITS?
Also...A general question to all...Do you guys know somebody who plans on pursuing chemistry in ur circles except me? I feel that it isn't quite popular

BITS-maybe NIT-depends on which nit, trichy, warangal are struck out
@YUSUFHASAN I wanted to pursue chemistry but my dad was furious
so i'm trying to stick to engineering
three of my friends are going to tho

@YUSUFHASAN C'mmon, don't be sheep.

(and NIT's don't have aero anyway)

12:48 PM
Ohh...But I think u shouldn't take some completely random branch like material sciences if u r gonna do engineering..@WilliamR.Ebenezer Ohh...I see...Well, ur dad will prolly not be happy with material sciences XD

Sid
Big day kids. How did you people do?

@AjayMishra I am asking to find out the chances of the cutoff falling

@Sid Summer days, as usual, are big days. ;) Fine.

@Dante Marks?

@YUSUFHASAN Which IIT you prefer?

12:49 PM
@YUSUFHASAN his best friend is from Mat. Sc. That's where I got the idea from. Nothing is an accident.

what is mat. sc. ? by the way.

material sciences
syllabus is kinda fun

@AjayMishra I do not choose the IIT..The IIT will choose me(hopefully) XD

Sid
@AjayMishra well, if you are happy with whatever you secured, congrats. Enjoy life now

@YUSUFHASAN Anyway, which IIT's you will put on your preference list while choosing them in JOSAA counselling?
@Sid Yeah. We can't do anything, else. Thanks though.

12:52 PM
@AjayMishra Roorkee and Kharagpur..They dug till 10k+ last year...I hope they dig further

@WilliamR.Ebenezer What are you going for now?

@YUSUFHASAN If you come to kgp, I'll be waiting to welcome you

@Abcd BTW, U should know this that u r 10 times the student I ever was. or infact most people are, during JEE preparation... So u will do even amazing in BITS than IITians cuz this is just an exam..Congrats for passing this phase of exams
@WilliamR.Ebenezer Yeah I was thinking....Y did u give the JEE again this year?U were already at KGP

@Abcd writing inorganic study material for an institute in my neighbourhood
@YUSUFHASAN dude, I live in IIT kgp. Not a student there

@WilliamR.Ebenezer which college will you take

12:57 PM
A quick question $$X = |( \operatorname{adj} (A^{-1}(B^{-1}){2B^{T}})|
= |(\operatorname{adj}(2B^T) \operatorname{adj}(B^{-1})\operatorname{adj}(A^{-1}))| $$
$$ = |2B^T|^2 |B^{-1}|^2 |A^{-1}|^2 = 2^6 |B|^2 \cfrac{1}{(|A||B|)^2} = \cfrac{2^6}{|A|^2}$$ Have I done anything wrong?

Ohh...How do u live there?@WilliamR.Ebenezer

@Abcd How was the result?

@Abcd BITS/IIEST shibpur/hypernew IIT
@YUSUFHASAN dad works here

@Abcd Please just have a glance over the solution, I didn't find any mistake though.

Ohhh..Got it...BTW, Hyper new IITs...I don't think they r a good choice...?

12:59 PM
@YUSUFHASAN i dont understand why you will go there with chemistry branch
please dont
@AjayMishra i dont want to sorry :(

@Abcd I wasn't talking about myself...William just wrote hypernew IIT above...So I was asking him...

Okay.

@YUSUFHASAN Yes, I am satisfied with BITS. Talked to seniors from there its amazing
@WilliamR.Ebenezer Why do you live there lol???

In fact....R the hyper new IITs a good choice(for GK)? I really don't get it..Some people criticize them like hell...Some say it is worth it
Question to all

@Abcd IITs are residential campuses so professors have quarters inside

1:02 PM
@YUSUFHASAN IIT Gandhinagar CS closes at 1700 yet it's average package is like 10-12

Sid
@WilliamR.Ebenezer That's true for about every well established institute of national importance

@WilliamR.Ebenezer Your father is a professor there???

So...Is 10-12 good? Don't good NITS/BITS give even better packages?@Abcd

@YUSUFHASAN it's not at all good.

@Sid Free for a while?

Sid
1:04 PM
Although, here, professors have flats and not quarters.

@YUSUFHASAN BITS goa and hyd for CSE is 18 and Pilani till 22....

Sid
@AjayMishra A bit, yes.

@Abcd yes, electrochem

@YUSUFHASAN idk about nits

@Sid yes flats=quarters here

1:05 PM
Ohh..I am a total noob at packages and stuff...I thought that 10-12 is good....XD...So, what do u feel...Should someone go for these new IITs leaving good NITS/BITS?@Abcd@WilliamR.Ebenezer

@WilliamR.Ebenezer so cool
@YUSUFHASAN no they shouldnt IMO.
and why talk about this,....no one here is going for it.
@YUSUFHASAN Fees is very high for BITS esp this year so maybe that's a problem with many candidates...so they should choose NIT/New IIT...

@Abcd No I was asking just for understanding.... and yeah,maybe BITS fees is too high if u aren't planning to go for a job straight away after graduation

@YUSUFHASAN go for bits/nit. prefer good college over good tag..

Ohhh...Nice..I thought so too! Now lemme see if Roorkee or kgp picks me up...XD

Sid
@WilliamR.Ebenezer Ah, okay. Did think it was odd Professors will get quarters.

1:09 PM
@YUSUFHASAN I'll tell you sth: chemistry students in kgp are very poorly motivated

@WilliamR.Ebenezer What have you kept in BITS preference list?

@Abcd nothing yet
is the counselling closed?

@WilliamR.Ebenezer 18th is the last date...better fill by 17th night

ok. I'll mostly give for mech alone

Also, there's a group if you have any queries:
Many seniors from BITS are here.....(replies in comments...)

Sid
1:12 PM
You people should become professors instead of looking for jobs. Study 10 years and then mess up students' grades. :P

you can dm them...i contacted 4-5 till now....v.v. polite and helpful

I'm scared of the desert, so is bits goa better than hyd?
@Abcd

@WilliamR.Ebenezer yes, I asked this thing as well.... Well dont decide your career based on climate was their response and they are like coolers etc are allowed....Also BITS keeps you so involved that you wont have time to worry about stuff like that....
@WilliamR.Ebenezer For CSE both are becoming equal now....Because Hyd is tech city...And for others Goa coz it's old...
@WilliamR.Ebenezer placements are best at pilani
One response:
Frankly i am in pilani rn and its not that bad
People have been living here
And i am sure coolers etc are available
My first advice would be to not make weather such a major point of consideration
other:
Also, I would like to tell you something the grading in Goa campus is a little harsh compared to Pilani campus. So choose wisely.

@WilliamR.Ebenezer Really? Why do u say that?

Do anyone know about this question "What if I've applied for AAT by mistake, and don't wanna give the exam, would my further admission process would be cancelled?" ?

1:32 PM
Are the ranks vs marks like 2016 this year or something weird happened?
@abcd @AjayMishra @Dante
I heard the paper was tougher than 2016 ....

It's like 2018
Almost.

but the paper was tougher than 2016? this is pretty bad!
Why did this happen?

Happened due to couple of reasons, 1) -1 instead of -2 2) 372 was maximum marks.

oh
and ever-increasing no. of participants + competition

Yeah.
In 2016, No of candidates was 1.65 lakh and there was -2

1:35 PM
So everyone must be wary of taking a drop, right? Because if the paper comes easy, then there's the problem of marks inflation, and if the paper is tough, this happens.

Exam was not tough, infact.

but everyone was like this paper was similar (or tougher) than 2016?!

2016 was also not tough, I guess. Couple of question can be solved without using pen.

that is the case with every paper. If out of 360 marks , 10 marks can be done without picking up a pen, that doesn't mean paper was easy....

I secured low marks(for me) because I didn't took any mock tests, so I was not familiar with that pressure.
@SDFG 80 for chem.

1:39 PM
yeah
@AjayMishra accha

You really don't have to pickup pen for organic and inorganic part.

yeah
but even then the questions of orgo and inorg can be pretty tough
anyway
all the best for the future!

And In physical chemistry, Numbers were nice. In this year, numbers were just picked from experiment, it seemed to me.

@YUSUFHASAN Thank you.
Congratulations to everyone!

Our batch consists of geniuses
End of discussion.

1:49 PM
We can't change anything now, but it's time to move on to bigger and better things.
2
@EshaManideep More like more better people in the upper part of ranklist.

Yeah....

@EshaManideep So, which IIT?

Damn. Not already.

Oh. Okay.
I thought someone like you might be ready with your list already xD
@AjayMishra I missed reading this. Yes, we can start a business, only that I know nothing of finances and as far as I know that's the most important thing to know xD

Sid
You guys need to enjoy more rather than thinking about colleges. You won't get a better opportunity to chill out

1:59 PM
Is there any chance of cutoffs falling this year for lower branches/pure science courses?

@PolarBear I can contact couple of Jam companies, which can support our startup, by investing some money. I think it oughtta be nice if we make this public after 3-4 years.
Do you have some angel investors' contact?

@AjayMishra If you call it a startup, we'll fail like Juicero.
Just think about those people who invested in it.
@AjayMishra At this point, no :'(
New to market
What are we exactly going to do with the berries?

2:23 PM
@Sid Yes :P What do you recommend?

@Abcd I didn't know you were at pilani
hyd is certainly going to develop even further, as it is turning into a tech hub anyway

@YUSUFHASAN Did you check the cutoffs of 16/17? That might give you a better idea by how much the cutoffs change over years

Sid
@PolarBear Learn cooking. And binge watch tv shows. :P

@Sid Doing that already! xD

Sid
Then, you are enjoying as a millenia. :P

2:27 PM
:P

@PolarBear Just sell them. The way they did in wolf of the wall street.

@PolarBear I did... There has been a fall in chem cutoff regularly each year.. From 17 to 18,chem in roorkee went from 8k to 10k... So I feel hopeful,but still was asking..

Q: Testing thermite for chemical properties

john kuczaI'm writing a movie in which a bunch of military explosives experts destroy a turbine with thermite and the local fire chief has to work out whether its plain $\ce{Fe2O3}$ and aluminium powder thermite or military grade with other stuff in it. How would he test for these ingredients and better b...

And ohh... Is anybody planning to take a drop(partial or full) ?

@YUSUFHASAN Not me, Already fed up preparing for 2 years XD

3:44 PM
@YUSUFHASAN Perhaps.

4:01 PM
@AjayMishra Why? U have got a good rank.. Is it not useful enough for u?

No, I don't know, the branch I want was launched earlier this year, I have no idea about the cut-offs. If I won't get it, I will think of dropping this year.

R u going for IIT H ,AI?

@WilliamR.Ebenezer it wasn't my message. I was quoting the seniors I talked to.

4:31 PM
@YUSUFHASAN I never told you that. Haha.

2 hours later…
6:42 PM
@Abcd oh, ok.
@YUSUFHASAN I'll meet my end if I take a drop. I'm bored of JEE syllabus.

2 hours later…

Q: what is "dot" sign in the •NO?

user80142Does anyone know what is "dot" sign in the •NO? I know that it is radical nitric oxide, but don't know if it is necessary to put "dot". Is there any difference between •NO and NO?
