@paracetamol Hmm, learning how to kill people.. I mean cure, cure people..
Anonymous
.. can be hectic.
@IceInkberry I have few doubts, in organic chemistry.
Are you free?
Anonymous
I am for a while, but I may not be able to help you. I have forgotten what I have learnt.
Let's give it a try.
Anonymous
Yeah, say.
02:41
Alkyl group is -I as well as -R
Then shouldn't the substitution occur at ortho position?
Where -I effect is also strong
Anonymous
@Dante Alkyl group is +I
Anonymous
And it is a weakly +M
Anonymous
The substituent is very big, and it will choose a place which has least steric hindrance.
I see. Another one,
Anonymous
Alkyl groups are very weak activating groups.
02:44
Shure you didn't mean +H
W
A
Anonymous
What is +H
Hyperconjugation
Anonymous
I never used +H for hyperconjugation.
Anonymous
02:46
Whatever, steric hindrance is the play here.
+m kon kar raha hai
I didn't even understand what they meant in the question above. How can the carbon get a negative charge?
Anonymous
@AvnishKabaj Koi Nahi. Non existent.
Anonymous
What is -R? -M?
Anonymous
So, I said weakly +M.
02:48
Uhh ok
Anonymous
@Dante It will be positive.
@Dante me neither
Anonymous
Just imagine Electrophiles attacking benzene.
Their solution seems correct
Anonymous
I don't understand their solution.
Anonymous
02:50
If you attack Electrophiles to benzene, it will be (D) because the electrophiles won't be on the carbon with double bond or with a + charge.
Anonymous
The error here is that the charge in (D) will be + and not -
But the question is from KVPY exam
And solution by resonance
Are you sure it's an error?
Is something wrong with my math here?
Question is to calc the enthalpy of reaction from HCl and NH4OH from the top two equations
I'm apparently getting -2.14 when exper. val is -1.21
@AvnishKabaj
Anonymous
03:25
@Dante Yes, see the solution.
Anonymous
There must be a typing error.
Hmm
Thank you
Do you have any idea regarding how can quickly revise all the stuff that I've studied for KVPY?
I seem to have forgotten everything :/
@IceInkberry @Abcd from where will you study practical organic chemistry from
I am not sure if it is class 11 chapter organic chemistry- some basic principle and techniques
03:42
Why does elimination not take place in this case even though they've used tertiary alcohol and why have they called it an exception?
04:00
@Jasmine sir gave us a very nice sheet to study it from
Anonymous
04:22
@Jasmine We have Allen module.
Anonymous
@Dante I have forgotten things too. But, if you have kept revising all way long it shouldn't be that difficult.
Anonymous
@Jasmine POC is in fiitjee's modules too. For me, it is in/with biomolecules/polymers chapter module.
@IceInkberry I didn't, Damn.
Anonymous
@Dante Oh well then just revise the formulae for Physics/chemistry and techniques for maths. You could do well with the formulae.
Hmm
Anonymous
04:29
Depends on your aim too, if you are aiming for high marks.. then well you should have revised and remembered all the chemistry.
IS the cutoff for KVPY shorter than JEE mains?
Anonymous
But, if you are looking to just clear it, formulae will do.
Round 1 cutoff.
Anonymous
Including biology students,
Anonymous
@Dante It's around 53/100 for (going to) second stage.
04:31
Oh, I see, that's gonna be difficult
@JavaScriptCoder o/
Long time
Do my round 1 marks effect placement in the college? Or will be based completely on the 2nd round?
Anonymous
@Dante The ranklist is inclusive of round 1 marks.
Hmmm. Thanks
Anonymous
The second round is just interview.
04:33
I see
@JavaScriptCoder looks right to me
What are a&b tho
04:47
@AvnishKabaj variables
I was talking to a friend abt Hess’s law
@IceInkberry ok
My guess is they had experimental errors, since their classmates apparently got different things
Should be a - b imho
That won't change the numerical value
Must have been doing too many imaginaries
a+bi, -a+bi and things like that
Anyways, gotta sleep
Bio exam tomorrow, and I’m trash at bio

@IceInkberry "Hectic" is putting it mildly ._.
Ended up skipping breakfast the other day (well, almost everyday). We were assigned to the emergency med. dept. (supposed to be a quick tour). A new patient was brought in with a cut wrist (courtesy- broken glass bottle), and the doc on duty dragged me with him to deal with it... I passed out next to the bed >_<
Then they had me treated at the emergency med. dept. My classmates found that hugely ironic ._.
Anonymous
@paracetamol I find that quite funny :P
Anonymous
And surely ironic. Life of med students.
Anonymous
And kids that's why you should eat your breakfast.
Anonymous
17:21
Imagine a faceless(?) person (paracetamol) who just passed out. You don't seem the passing out type xD
@IceInkberry I'm not ._.
I was surprised myself :/
In my defence: The room was cramped with people, it was hot, and there was blood everywhere. The skipped-breakfast just compounded the issue >_<
