Hi @jakebeal
oops, this is the election chat room - nevermind ...

14 hours later…
3:02 PM
@Wrzlprmft Well, that is to be expected if the election is due to a rather popular mod being forced to step down due to (from what I gathered) simply causing more 'fuss and controversy' than mods should. So, yeah, things like that heat things up. I suppose election was nessecary due to mods being otherwise overworked, but waiting for things to simmer down would perhaps be better.
@MassimoOrtolano I must say that for at least 3 users, I'm almost certain that they'd be a good choice (so my voting wasn't hard). For the 4th, I simply don't have enough info, but I'd wager it wouldn't be a bad mod at the least

1 hour later…
4:21 PM
@Discretelizard but only 1 candidate has promised to make reviewer 2 pay.

4:35 PM
@StrongBad As a last-ditch effort, I promise the doubling of the h-index of every user! :-p

@StrongBad Ah, but I'm not an academic yet. I have no papers that need be reviewed.

@MassimoOrtolano you are going to have to publish a lot with a bunch of truly random citations.

@StrongBad It would be a nice social experiment, somehow in the same spirit of that in which it was submitted a computer-generated paper.

7:21 PM
@MassimoOrtolano Will the paper contain a lot of chickens?

@Discretelizard Oh, that’s not even half of the drama. They elected one mod who was at that moment serving a one-year suspension on another site, as a result of which some former moderators had their accounts deleted.

@Wrzlprmft Oh wow. Could you point to some place that might provide a comprehensive overview of the mess? For eh, research purposes?

7:53 PM
@Discretelizard I don’t think so. I would have to search myself.

@Wrzlprmft Perhaps it is for the best. No need to start digging on my behalf.

But “for research purposes” makes for a good academia equivalent of “for a friend”.

What does unofficial results mean?

Who has got highest vote.
@Hosea

I ran the election manually to get those results. They're almost certainly correct, but they're not Stack Exchange's official results.

Are all the top 3 going to be moderators?

@Hosea SmokeDetector is bot and the official result comes from SE.
@Coder no, there was only one spot. All the old mods are staying on.

Okay. Great then. You guys become a team of 5 to keep the site clean.

Yay! So excited to have you on board @Wrzlprmft

As expected, Congratulations @Wrzlprmft

Thanks everybody. I must say that I am really surprised how clear the result was, given the competition.

I congratulate other campaigner for the successful campaign. I am sure there may not be much difference in the vote counts.
In fact I would thank all the moderators and people around academia.SE from who I do learn a lot of things. It is impressive to see such clear election and results. See you all.

@Wrzlprmft got the diamond symbol beside his name. :-)

8:08 PM
@Wrzlprmft Indeed. I didn't expect such a landslide victory. Congratulations! I gather you will be doing some sort of official introduction soon, yes?
@StrongBad 'SmokeDetector' lol, what does this have to do with anything?

@Discretelizard I can’t really throw a round, can I?

@Wrzlprmft FREE CITATIONS FOR EVERYONE!
Also, we should attempt to get reviewer 2 to party too hard, so that the reviewer will be temporarily ... disabled.

@Discretelizard I am with you on this.
@all Can the moderators write in their CV about this achievement? That they are serving as Moderator for academia.SE.

@Wrzlprmft Now, as @ff524 has promised, you now have a rather big target on your head (about 2/3's as big, I'd say)
@Coder I think one can write in ones CV whatever you want. It would be tricky for pseudonyms accounts, though.

@Coder I did mention my other moderatorships in CVs.

8:14 PM
@Wrzlprmft @Discretelizard That is nice.

Congrats @Wrzlprmft!

3 hours later…
11:36 PM
@Wrzlprmft congrats :)
