Wheee!

8 hours later…
09:44
... now why would you all want to have the most unglamorous position on the site ...?!
all the pain - none of the glory.
if you are UTC+4 or higher - come aboard - you can do all the work while the rest of us get some sleep ;)
4
10:46
@fossfreedom lol I qualify
10:59
@AmithKK let's see how you'll cope in the town hall ... get ready for some really hard Q's.
@fossfreedom I woke up at 2 in the morning last time :P
@AmithKK And I go to sleep at 5 in the morning :)
dedication - good trait to have. We expect 24hrs working 7 days a week.

4 hours later…
14:48
Not that I'm planning to stand but...
is needing to sign the ubuntu code of conduct something an elected mod needs to do before nomination, or is it something they need to be willing to do afters?
@JourneymanGeek I think it needs to be signed first
Since people with 300 rep can nominate themselves, I shall join in the fun (No way of getting elected though:P)
I think so, yeh. But it's probably best to sign it beforehand no matter what, this time around ... Seeing how there's apparently some confusion regarding the "new" CoC.
lol rep you mean
14:53
@JourneymanGeek Thank you for your reminder:P
Its probably 'impossible' to get 300 people to nominate someone, anywhere
glares at SO ... You sure about that?
about what?
jrg
jrg
@JourneymanGeek before.
jrg
jrg
15:04
still need to find out for sure if it's 2.0 or 1.x
for some reason I found that unclear ;p
>_>
wouldn't that be something that needs sorting out? would be silly to disqualify someone for that ;p
jrg
jrg
ok, let me rephrase that: It's required in order to take the diamond.
The newest version of CoC is indeed 2.0 (I remember I signed it through Launchpad the day it was released)
ahh, so if someone got elected with the 'wrong' version they could before 'taking office'?
(not sure why I'm asking all this, but i suppose it would be useful to know ;) )

15:12
>_>
that would assume that its 2.0 then
jrg
jrg
so... please sign, you're agreeing to it anyway, you might as well make it official with the ubuntu community at large!
8
@jrg anyway I've signed it
XD
I'll look at the process when I'm back in civilisation booted into my KDE install on my desktop
jrg
jrg
heh
15:14
though I'm starting to be tempted to find room for my old laptop so I can have a dedicated linux box
now that school isn't all RAWRWINDOWSTOOLS
I won't probably nominate myself now,19th and 20th is the hell busiest
eh. I won't unless someone asks me to ;p
Ubuntu membership application + IRC session about ISO tests to teach:)
jrg
jrg
@smartboyhw the links in the descriptions for dates aren't accurate.
the end date of the 20th is,
but you won't get your diamond for another 24-48 hours.
the usual allegations of sockpuppetry, punditry and baby kissing will be made, but everything will die down and it'll be ok. ;)
@jrg: pfft. Our elections seem to feature marital infidelity ;p
(national, well byelections, of which we've had 2 already. SU elections tend to involve... not much)
15:24
@jrg I'll never get it anyway, my rep is too less
on the bright side, you guys probably wouldn't have evan carroll ;p
@smartboyhw: I have more rep than a good chunk of SU mods ;p
@JourneymanGeek I only got 447!
XD
I have 704 ;p
@JourneymanGeek the lower limit is 300 :P
I'm still a user in good standing here, I hope
jrg
jrg
15:25
heh.
LOL
I'm real correct...
Ubuntu QA IRC session: 19th February, 2013,13:00 UTC
I want to get to 3k tho, sooner rather than later
(cause being able to VTC is useful)
membership application: 20th Feb, 2013, 12:00 UTC
@RolandiXor go for election would you!?
e_e
I don't even know what's going on yet
just got here
15:28
@RolandiXor Nominate yourself to be a mod!
I'm probably waiting for who nominates themselves, then roll dice to see if I should type something up.
I need more votes than that :)...
jrg
jrg
show a little decorum gentlemen.
@jrg thank you.
@RolandiXor You can just simply nominate yourself first
Then wait for people to upvote
15:29
@FEichinger: actually I tend to do the reverse. See who stands, see if there's enough people I'd rather have win, then not toss my hat into the ring
@smartboyhw what I mean is, I need more people asking for me to run than that, because as I said, unless people actually want me to be a mod I'm not running.
Personally I'm not as enthused by the role as I once was.
@RolandiXor I will go and get @AmithKK
Wait a minute I'm supposed to VOTE for @AmithKK !!!:P
@RolandiXor: I hate to say this but.. people only tend to complain about people not running after the elections
@JourneymanGeek That's pretty much the same choice here. In fact, it's more about the fact that I'm not exactly the nicest of people.
@JourneymanGeek true...
15:31
@JourneymanGeek Thumbs up
jrg
jrg
Oh man, we're going to have a bunch of 11th hour nominations...
@FEichinger: its not just about niceness tho
@jrg !?
jrg
jrg
@smartboyhw last-minute nominations.
@jrg lol
@jrg how long is the nomination period?
15:32
@JourneymanGeek I wouldn't even want myself to talk to a new guy on the site.
"Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community."
jrg
jrg
@smartboyhw couple of days.
That right there should disqualify me right away, not so?
@RolandiXor Nah, @jrg is worse.
jrg
jrg
Ouch.
15:32
Lies!
@RolandiXor Just thought of it....From your Google+ posts you don't seem to be POSITIVE in behaviour:P
Well, there's times when you need to be politely nasty
jrg
jrg
if you have a problem with my style, meta guys. meta. ;)
@jrg ♥
@FEichinger you want to go on Nuclearthermowar?
15:33
user image
5
@jrg I was just joking :P
@smartboyhw :)
Just ask @Joshua @smartboyhw :)...
(Okay don't)
(that might not be a good idea)
@RolandiXor !?
@smartboyhw you wouldn't know...
15:56
Why isn't this in the main room?
jrg
jrg
@MarcoCeppi Shog9.
Is anyone going to blog about this?
jrg
jrg
yeah, i was going to.
unless you want to.
doesn't matter, just wanted to make sure it was out there
jrg
jrg
ok.
16:20
Actually, I was about to but good thing I haven't finished my draft.
jrg
jrg
oh, go right ahead then.
i haven't even started
That won't be a problem, will it?
jrg
jrg
no.
you posting it won't be a problem, it just needs to get out there.

2 hours later…
18:12
@jrg Did you end up finding out from the Community Council if we must require CoC 2.0 explicitly as a qualification for office? If so, does that mean the elections page must be edited soon? And what do we do about (as you mentioned) the SE TOS?
jrg
jrg
@EliahKagan i didn't contact the CC, i asked the other moderators. 2.0 is a requirement.
@jrg K. Thx btw. Can the elections page be edited? (I'm guessing the TOS may take a bit longer to get changed.)
jrg
jrg
@EliahKagan i'm editing the election page right now.
Wow, stuff happening here
@jrg Excellent!
Do we talk to Shog9 about the TOS?
jrg
jrg
18:15
meta, but yeah. we'll deal with it later.
jrg
jrg

begins in 1 hour.
Not sure if it matters, but launchpad capitalizes to Launchpad, never to LaunchPad (it's one word, so no camel case is needed).
jrg
jrg
oh.
At least that's how it's capitalized at launchpad.net and help.launchpad.net.
18:24
Wow, looking at this page, I didn't know the sportsmanship badge was so hard to earn!
18:37
@Seth Yeah, only 12 people have earned it on Ask Ubuntu.
Wow
I don't even have 100 answers yet :(
jrg
jrg
i don't even have sportsmanship.
18:59
I know :P
jrg
jrg
55 minutes.
What are your expectations about this election? A new record number of nominations? Will it be a very exciting run? etc.
jrg
jrg
exciting? yes.
record number of nominations? we'd need to get 11 who stick with it.
Looks like I won't be running. Just FYI.
@jrg "we'd need to get 11 who stick with it." <-- ?
jrg
jrg
19:11
@gertvdijk 11 candidates who don't withdraw before the election/primary starts.
@Seth me neither. I won't have much time later this year.
@jrg else what happens?
jrg
jrg
ask ubuntu has never had a primary in a mod election. just nominations, and then election.
@gertvdijk if we get more than 10 (which would be a first), we'll have a primary. and lengthen the election.
which i'm ok with.
ah that :)
jrg
jrg
provides for more opportunities for people to make a decision.
2
and to come up with embarrassing photoshopped captain picard mugshots. :)
2
@jrg does that photo embarrass you?
I thought you were proud of it :S
jrg
jrg
19:27
No, I'm rather proud of it.
good :)
19:41
20 minutes.
drum roll!
15 minutes
6 minutes until the election.
@Seth: I've got my eye on you :)

Looks like I won't be running. Just FYI.
indeed.
jrg
jrg
what, no candidates?
@Seth :(
@Seth :(
I think it takes a lot to say you're not going to run
It's a big commitment, and it's like the worse thing you can do as a human ;)
jrg
jrg
^^ That is true. Both parts.

Should I run? Does anyone think I can get more then 1 vote (my own)?

You've changed your username.
Gui
Gui
@GeorgeEdison yes...
20:14
Yay!
jrg
jrg
right now, the race is neck and neck! Folks, this is tense. It's killing me over here!
SO MANY CANDIDATES TO CHOOSE FROM!
Hello!
I can see you already see me.
I thought there would be baby kissing and free Ubuntu phones for everyone. am disappoint. :-(
6
@GeorgeEdison You flatter me.
Yes, we can.
20:18
Sorry, I can't seem to properly enunciate the past tense without turning into a pancake...
I should close this as NARQ.
@GeorgeEdison Yes. or as dupe of the 2012!
jrg
jrg
@ObsessiveSSOℲ: typo: core of conduct should be code of conduct.
@jrg Nice catch!
jrg
jrg
dropped a shoe @ObsessiveSSOℲ
20:24
I'm sorry, I don;t understand.
jrg
jrg
ever heard the phrase "waiting for the other shoe to drop"?
well, i just dropped a large boot on you. ;)
Gui
Gui
Well I will probably regret that... but oh well
jrg
jrg
@Gui is our second victim, and "forever" is a long time bro! ;)
Gui
Gui
I figure I have till I die lol...
My nomination post is really tight, as I am one character below the limit
jrg
jrg
20:28
wait, what is the limit?
Gui
Gui
I think I was 15....
jrg
jrg
so far, one spot will go unfilled! Who's tossing their hat into the ring next?
Found a typo. Now I'm at the character limit.
@ObsessiveSSOℲ so you can only enter so many characters for nomination?
odd.
Yeah, that looks like the limit.
20:33
What if you go over?
sounds like a to me
Gui
Gui
@MarcoCeppi it won't let you post
I think it is 1200
characters that is minus white space
My recommendations then, remove statistics and stick to why you think you'd be a good moderator, try to address common concerns in comments if possible, and prepare yourself for the town hall. Since you can see all your stats on this page
Gui
Gui
I am bringing cake to the Town Hall so I am good :-D
hen is the town hall anyways?
20:47
Launchpad won;t let me sign the Ubuntu Code of Conduct, 2.0, since it already has a signature for 1.1.
@Gui I don't think it excludes whitespace.
Gui
Gui
@FEichinger oh... well I don't know then :-P
@ObsessiveSSOℲ you might want to open an AU question about that. I tried but also couldn't because I signed 1.1
@MarcoCeppi Posted.
@ObsessiveSSOℲ Click the "signed" link, scroll down or deactivate 1.1?
I can't try it, cause I signed 2.0, but I'll write the answer if it works. :D
20:59
@FEichinger All I can do is deactivate 1.1, which I don't want to do if possible.
I don't even receive a prompt to sign 2.0
Deactivating it seems to work, though. :/
Yeah, but I don't want to deactivate it yet, as I will be switching PGP keys in a few months, anyway.
And 1.1 won't suffice for AU?
Ah, bummer.
will be back in 5 minutes
jrg
jrg
@ObsessiveSSOℲ you can deactivate 1.1 and re-sign 2.0
21:07
Yeah, but I want to hold my key switching until I switch all my keys over, if possible.
jrg
jrg
just switch your keys now.
Just use the same key?
OK, I'll do it sometime this week, when I don't have snoopy relatives over.
I'd be happy if my relatives knew what gpg was, let alone tried to steal my keys
6
jrg
jrg
21:11
yay! Thanks @FEichinger
Yeah, you're lucky. One of my annoying cousins tried to arm wrestle me for my laptop. So I didn;t have to lose the laptop, I ended up messing with BIOS settings until it was too much for them.
We have four candidates now.
"Thanks"? I knew it was a trap!
jrg
jrg
some people do DevOps, some people do NoOps, and others still do CleanupOps
4
Now that belongs on a fridge somewhere.
jrg
jrg
21:12
@GeorgeEdison yessir.
@jrg lol
Gui
Gui
cydia is fairly useless right now...
just for the record
Right now, I'm kind of the flag bomber on the election ... Go figure.
Like, in relation to other metrics.
I'm kind of meta heavy, but kind of balanced.
jrg
jrg
@ObsessiveSSOℲ is pretty high on the flags too.
21:18
Thanks. :)
offtopic: Right now, I'm playing FoldIt, where you fold proteins, and I can't seem to get above 11,228 points. Grr.
@jrg That's why I said "in relation to other metrics" :P
22:04
We're half-way to the magical number!
nice :)
Holy smoke! Elections. :)

I like it.
23:04
@qbi "moderatur elections."
23:50
Hi guys, I wanted to ask a question about the moderation, let's say hypothetically I would compete in the nominations, is being a moderator more time consuming than a common user taking into consideration that for example, I connect literally every day to check stuff out. So do I have to connect more often (From 3 to 5 times a day or the whole day for example).
I don't think so - as long as you can devote 30 minutes or so on a daily basis, that's going to be helpful.
It really shouldn't matter whether that 30 minutes is one long chunk of time or broken up across the day.
Thanks George
so many candidates for this election
@Seth Thinking of running?
that's a good thing I think ;)
23:57
I did not do it last year because I always thought it was much more stressful as a moderator
@ObsessiveSSOℲ I've thought about it. I don't think it'll work out with things on my end though.
@LuisAlvarado Oh, I heard it is stressful.
For example see how little hair most moderators have ^^
@Seth In terms of time management?
I saw you in the nominations obsessive
you bad bad boy you
23:58
not exactly time management, though that is something to consider.
@LuisAlvarado Oooooh, so that's why I'm running. I want to naturally shorten my 2.5 ft hair. :P
I'll vote for you hehe
Yup, I;m running.
I might show up sometime in the next week, we'll see.
@FEichinger Well I heard if you get to be a moderator, your hair will stay short... FOREVER!
23:59
@LuisAlvarado Star!
@LuisAlvarado See? No need for a haircut and short hair. Perfect.
