11:11 PM
Doesn't work.
CMD is still there, though.
@Bob

Bob
@JoeyLópez ok, time for the nuclear option: in-place upgrade

Well, I kinda cleaned the USB I was going to put the ISO on

Bob
since as @FMLCat said, it needs to run from within Windows... download it, stick it somewhere (flash drive is fine) and run setup.exe from the cmd prompt :P

and the download failed twice

Bob
@JoeyLópez if you want I can rehost it somewhere for you to do a resumable download on?

11:13 PM
and the USB I cleaned up, my only one above 4 GB, was my outdated windows thing
yeah that should work

@JoeyLópez That's before you failed to mention you WERE getting into Windows

Bob
@JoeyLópez any preference - rsync, ftp, .. ?

I have to download it directly to the USB because the Chromebook only has 16 GB
well

Bob
@FMLCat I didn't know Joey was getting into windows until later :P

I can't use anything too crazy

Bob
11:15 PM
@JoeyLópez you have bootable ubuntu, yea?

@Bob Yeah never mind, I was mixing up the two messages in my head

I believe the actual recovery tools were deleted so my Chromebook would shut up about disk space
well yes
doesn't have the wifi password (not persistent memory) but I could just use ethernet
might be a pain but I could probably do it
Wait
couldn't I use runas to open up windows and download it from there or something?

Bob
@JoeyLópez ...probably? tad iffy
@JoeyLópez if you want to try, download download.microsoft.com/download/A/B/E/… and stick it somewhere
then runas /user it on Windows
(don't run it on the system account, iirc it dumps temp files in the profile)

um I've changed some things on my laptop, I'm not quite sure what it's looking for as my user but the user name that typically shows has a space in it...
is there a way to list users by chance?
I tried the username that my C:\Users filesystem was named after
ah my email
nope...

Bob
@JoeyLópez net user
@JoeyLópez alternatively you can create a new user, if it won't let you log in to a MS account
62
A: Create admin user from command line

Chris E. AvisYou are on the right track - It takes two CMD line options to do this First - net user /add [username] [password] This creates the user account. net localgroup administrators [username] /add This adds the user to the Local Administrators Group You have to execute both commands with elevat...

11:25 PM
ok I got the first thing I tried, then WDAGUtility account (should that be there?), Administrator, DefaultAccount, and Guest
let me try again first...

Bob
@JoeyLópez just make a new local user account and make it a local admin

It's really hard to type when the window focus keeps moving :|

Bob
*shrug*
could be anything

still getting access is denied

Bob
could be winlogon trying to start and crashing

11:29 PM
probably

@Bob Yeah or anything

hmm

Bob
could be a wireless keyboard or mouse somewhere (do you have one attached?) sending weird commands

But does sound like some application constantly trying to restart

ok I unplugged my mouse and it didn't do anything
can I run winlogon without runas, or is that a bad idea>
?

Bob
11:30 PM
you mean the MCT?
it'd probably work, you'd just leave some files behind in systemprofile
which might get reset by the update, idk

those wouldn't be an issue though, would they?

Bob
prooooooobably not?
that said, if your download is getting interrupted on the chromebook, the MCT won't do any better

might also be an issue because cmd thinks it's narrator rn...?

Bob
I don't think it can resume
@JoeyLópez nah, that ... shouldn't be a prob

maybe narrator.exe doesn't have perms though... idk
so...
is there an option for this from the system recovery options?

Bob
11:33 PM
@JoeyLópez option for what?

you know what, I'll just swap drives and run linux off of my SSD for downloading that thing
the computer is already unscrewed anyway because I was going to be swapping out drives, had this not ended up like this

Bob
not a bad idea
I'll get the rsync server set up :P

I pulled the HDD out and it was warm... I was expecting it to be a cold, stone-cored killer of plans

Did Geek and Quixy leave the channel? :-o

Bob
@JoeyLópez 64-bit, yea?

11:42 PM
yes

Bob
@JoeyLópez US English?

Yes

Bob
@JoeyLópez btw, what's your connection speed?

wifi might still be slower than it should be for some reason, but even then 20Mb/s at least
yeah, the wifi is still crippled on my laptop- reporting 17.87Mb/s, might be because I'm using Qualcomm Aetheros with Linux
I've heard those don't mix well
Windows would report 150Mb/s, theoretical max of my laptop's wifi chip (probably faster than HDD could ever write)
gtg, be back probably in under half an hour
