@nerdy The words are kind of synonymous, but I don't know that either of them has a specific technical definition (in the sense that, say, "momentum" does)

A: When does it make sense to add an additional answer to a question which has already an accepted answer?

David Zaslavsky it got no votes which I interpret as it has not been useful for anybody That's the wrong way to think about it. Just because an answer doesn't get voted on, it doesn't necessarily mean it was not useful to anyone - and perhaps more importantly, it doesn't mean it will not be useful to anyone...

Hmm... (Thinking about the past)... I've deleted too many answers :/
Don't you think , that the privileges given to you shouldn't be taken away when you offer a bounty on a question . Taking away reputation is fine , but privileges shouldn't be taken away since they are earned after honestly earning a certain reputation , and just because you want to award a bounty on some question to get a better answer, you lose even the privileges that were given to you on the site
@dkbose It's always good to have a search in the mother meta for SE's interesting magic tricks ;-)

Q: Is losing privileges after placing bounty OK?

Jonathan SampsonMy rep went over 2,000 today which meant I could edit other people's posts. Great! Then I added a bounty to a previous question, which brought me back down to 1,984...and I can no longer edit other posts. Should this changed? Or is this ideal? Update: Thank you all who up-voted in an attempt to ...

You slice-off your rep. for the question to get more attention..!
Privileges depend on rep. score..!
Or, you can always consider this bucket-overflow :D

A: Why do the up-votes after reaching daily rep cap not contribute to compensate the subsequent down-votes?

Chaithanya MConsider your rep as water in a bucket, so if you reach your daily rep cap, that means your bucket is full. Now, when someone up-votes you beyond your rep cap, which is analogous to adding more water to the already full bucket - the bucket will simply overflow. Your up-votes at the time of your d...

@dkbose To support your question, consider the voted comment on the answer ;-)
Err... I do have some bad-thought in this scheme. But, we've no other way - it's [meta:status-bydesign]

@RhysW Btw, just met the prof: We'll basically be finding and analyzing the properties of compounds like graphene/silicene/MoS2, under various conditions.
Unfortunately I'm going on vacation (not much Internet access) from 25th-5th, so I'll just be reading for now.

Can COM of a body move w.r.t. a frame attached to a point on the body itself?
I think yes , if the body also rotates. and COM is not a point on axis of rotation.
Plz. help.

Lately I've noticed quite a few Wikipedia articles written like papers with a lot of "we illustrate" and "we show that...". Tons of "we" rather than an encyclopedic tone.
They'd probably want that fixed
("they" being active Wikipedia editors)
Yeah it some cases I do but when a whole article needs to be re-written I'm not really qualified for that.
Search for "we " in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_Inversion for quite a few examples.
In many places it almost reads as though it's a copy-and-paste from a paper.
hm... I'm not sure that's so bad actually. Unless it actually is copied and pasted from a paper.
The alternative to "we" is often putting everything in the passive voice, which is arguably worse

Q: Problem in angle measurement

Physics_guyFrom the above picture we can prove easily $ CF = XF$ because CFX is a isosceles triangle. Now if we move the point X more near near P, it will give the same results(I mean we will get again $ CF = XF$) but by drawing the figure on paper, I have measured that XF= CF are not equal always. What is...

Off topic?

@DavidZaslavsky completely. Even if he rephrased it to ask a conceptual question about mirror shapes it'd probably (at best) be a geometry question.

After posting a question I remember that for max rep whoring don't post on a Friday afternoon or Saturday. Site activity seems to be at a minimum. Oh well.

@BrandonEnright LOL :-D, since some time I am thinking to posting stuff at the weekend (starting Friday afternoon) is ... say unfavorable. But today it worked not that bad for me :-P
Much more important is to know when to post stuff if you dont want particular people or moderators to see it ... :-P!
