Q: Error in equation 2.1. in Ray Tracing Volume Densities

user8469759I am reading through Kajiya - Ray Tracing Volume Densities paper. And I've already got stuck into section 2. I wonder if there's a mistake in that equation. I'll quote the relevant bit The quantity to be calculated in a scattering problem is the energy per unit solid angle per unit area $$ dE = ...

As I think there's some physics in there, you might be able to help

This book is doing a derivative of curve parametrizations for two different curves
I assume it makes sense in the context since there's a family of curves involved, but it is a bit muddy

@SirCumference What's up! I remember you being a very passionate student. How has your studying been going?
15:21
@Obliv Pretty good, starting a PhD program this fall
That's gonna be an experience
@SirCumference Wow that's amazing! I remember when you were an enthusiastic high school student. How far you've come! I wish you the best. What area are you going to be working on?
Thanks a ton! I'm gonna focus on astrophysics, probably either stars or cosmology
How're things with you?
Sweet, cosmology is fascinating. I'm doing well, my hiatus from school is ending soon since I found a relatively cheap way to finish up school. Turns out my school accepts a lot of CLEP exams which would soften the tuition costs.
I'm gonna be taking those, and transferring (hopefully) with a full ride to any school that'll take me :)
@Obliv That's great. Are you pursuing physics?
15:36
I will be taking physics classes but I am not "pursuing" it :P
I see, what're you thinking of doing?
I want to keep my options open for now. It will be a physics B.S. though
Gotcha. Well it's good that things are working out for ya
How've you been faring with the pandemic?
@SirCumference I'm thinking of just living life to its fullest right now. Pushing myself to understand and grow etc. I don't wanna set goals I can't achieve.
Pandemic hasn't really affected me that much besides the first couple months. I don't travel, but I got vaxxed anyway for my job.
I also don't keep up with the news as much as I should, just bums me out.
@Obliv That's good :)
Yeah the news is kind of a nightmare lately
15:46
What bums me out about it is the inherent biases and agendas media coverage has in relation to politics or whatever.
It's like I'm just listening to gossip at some point.
I just need to refine my news sources I guess.
I'm sure a lot of it is my own perception. My distrust comes from my lack of insight :P
@Obliv Nah that's just how most news is these days
Opinion pieces disguised as objective articles
Well maybe I'm just too pessimistic about it
I gotta go but it's been cool seeing ya again
See you around (get it, because you're a circumference)
I'll see myself out.
I dunno whether to groan or steal that lol
Hehe

Q: Why is this question closed? I am findin gno satisfactory answers from the personal comment

Atri De I have a question about my Physics Stack Exchange post: Can time dilation be used to prove that relatavistic mass does not really increase at speeds near c?
