Speaking of ancient languages, I think it's pretty cool that we have several centuries of systematic
astronomical observations from the Babylonians. Western astronomy inherited some of that data via the Alexandrian astronomers. Of course, some of that knowledge was temporarily lost in the West during the Dark Ages, but IIRC, the Babylonian methods for predicting the phases of the Moon & eclipses were preserved during those times.
