Q: About your f***ing website

Jeff AtwoodPresented for your enjoyment-slash-amusement. Email received by team@stackoverflow.com from Name Jesus Christ Almighty, what a f***ing mess of a website. I'm trying to post a question. Just the one, you know, f***ing question. So I sign up for an ID and I'm sent an email that doesn't real...

This is hilarious.

@AvnishKabaj a pretty substantial amount, I guess - it spent ten days on the rep-cap and quickly tailed off
so around 2000 rep, roughly

@Blue : Only 1.5 year. :)

@Qmechanic I thought Physics graduated on February 24, 2011 and Chemistry graduated on 13 March, 2015?

> This question exists because it has historical significance
not really

6:19 PM
@Blue what's so important about graduation
@Loong agreed

How can a finite distance is divided infinitely many time intervals . Can anybody help me to understand this

@Blue this is... a pretty troubling thread, tbh
Customer service can be a thankless task when customers jump in with a kick-the-windows-in attitude, but that's not how you respond, and you certainly don't go on to post it on the service's message board for users to make fun of

@Qmechanic If you're talking about the site proposal, I think you're right. Chemistry and Physics were proposed around the same time (a year apart) on Area 51. Can't find the threads now though. :)

@Loong : Completed with a schadenfroh smile :D

Ask your questions about the antidote on chemistry.stackexchange.com ;-)

So...yes, around 1.5 years apart.

What's all this physics> chemistry nonsense

Looks like my cat sat on the keyboard again
Chemistry whoo whoo!!
East or West chemistry is the best

Sid
Nonsense!
Chemistry is one of the most ugh-inducing subjects

No u
Actually my cat never said that physics > chemistry
So I'm fine
It's blue who needs to watch out

As for the "Why Physics SE has more users than Chemistry SE?" thing, I think it's partly also because of the "Stack Overflow effort". It's far more common to see physicists working as programmers than chemists working as programmers (I don't have any statistics handy though). In the initial days, I believe, it was mostly the SO-users who got drawn to this site, before SE got optimized in the search engines.

@AvnishKabaj about 10% of the rep I've given away in bounties ;-)
past 20k, there's really very little reason to keep detailed track
still, that's a lot of years
when I was at the 18-month mark after signing up, I was also at around 3.5k

There's still hope for me :P

;-)
also
you just get better with time
both at writing better answers, and at writing good answers fast
and it's excellent writing practice for the real world

@Blue Correlation isn't causation

Ok ok ok ok
It's just that most of our traffic is from kids who want their homework done
They don't stick around

@AvnishKabaj The kids came in later. The "great flood" began in ~2014-15. ;)

The great flood?
O.o
On a side note
Let's leave the side note it's pretty risqué

@AvnishKabaj Stole it from here. :P

Can you be more dramatic? — Asaf Karagila ♦ Jan 8 '18 at 12:42

@GodotMisogi That has absolutley nothing to do with what I suggested you do. I also agree with Deepak Chopra, but when Deepak Chopra has a problem, he doesn't sit and cry, he acts, he fixes, he does.

That needs to be framed in gold. :P

@Blue but please add my name there, I wanna be famous. Something like (- Novalium) will be enough.
Is that a pizza with some sort of a salad over it? :D

@NovaliumCompany Done! ;)

@NovaliumCompany Yeah, seems so. With a cheese topping.

Maybe there's some meat too.

A plain cheese pizza topped with a mixture of chicken and bacon in cream!

Oh, JR doesn't like veggies. So probably no salad. It's just chicken and bacon.

@NovaliumCompany Yep.

@BernardoMeurer that's fine. With a bit of luck the security guys won't know about my conviction for goat molesting.

I'm making a song.

I am not getting this line -
"Suppose you are trying to localize a point particle of mass $m$. If you use light, the possible accuracy in the position of the particle is roughly the wavelength of the light"
Can anyone tell me please how we have this?

Anonymous
@EmilioPisanty Indeed. I guess it was the initial days (August 2010) and Jeff did it on an impulse. Handling a start-up can be quite overwhelming and stressful at times, and we can't really blame them for the over-reaction. But yes, sharing it publicly was not the right move and I believe today's Jeff or today's Joel wouldn't have done that.

That said, the thread has served its purpose and can be deleted now. Maybe they just retained it for the laughs.
