@Slereah the nucleus
@Blue lol
Are you doing like
droplet model?
Or more basic stuff
@0ßelö7 I am going to put you on ignore for using lol.
Use kek. It's 2017 for Christ's sake.
It's 2017, @BalarkaSen
lol has expired. Only BALEETED use that. BALEETED and CENSORED DATA EXPUNGED.
16:07
Use zozzle like everyone else
@Slereah I have actually no clue. Didn't pay attention in class and didn't study
I think it's basic quantum mechanics for now
I took the graduate QM last year so I shoild
be fine
@BalarkaSen pls don't ban me
@0ßelö7 I censored the triggering words
@Blue: you have mail!
being 🅱amily 🅱riendly
@BalarkaSen You have now reached a point where I have literally no idea what you are trying to say.
16:11
Is it just me or does this not make sense?

Q: Space a superposition of a open space and a closed space

Ted BoothIf you use a ruler to measure a triangle in an open space, then the triangle is curved inward or convex, since an open space is hyperbolic or like a saddle. The triangle is concave or bowed out in a closed space like a sphere. A flat universe is just a straight equilateral triangle measured. I...

@ACuriousMind Is that a compliment? :)
@JohnRennie It's not just you.
@BalarkaSen Well...it's a statement. If you take it as a compliment that says more about you than about me.

@JohnRennie I saw it. Unfortunately the SSD has not arrived yet. :/

Balls :-(
Maybe it's a bit early to give up hope, but it's not looking good.

Around 11 days have passed since the day of posting. Let's wait another week perhaps. I just hope they haven't opened up the packet and discovered that those weren't photos, but rather - hardware.
@ACuriousMind lol
I mean kek
@Blue I put a letter in the envelope saying something along the lines of Hi, here are the photos on a USB stick, so even if customs intercepted and opened the envelope it should still have been OK.
Anonymous
@JohnRennie I see. Good idea :P Hoping for the best :)
@0ßelö7 For someone claiming not to be a nerd, I find it funny you'd use a synonym of lol that has its origin in World of Warcraft's Alliance/Horde translator ;P
@Blue it's my many years of experience as an international smuggler :-)

16:23
Hehe :P
@ACuriousMind Wasn't it Balarka using kek not 0ßelö7? I become increasingly convinced that while I have no idea what planet @Balarka inhabits it is not the same one as the rest of us :-)
16:44
@JohnRennie Cosmas Zachos is an excellent, if often flowery, writer.
@ACuriousMind balarka commanded me to use it
And you're damn right I'm not a nerd
@JohnRennie wait what?
new GR homework is up
@0ßelö7 exercise 1: show difference between two covariant derivatives is a tensor
exercise 2: some Christoffel symbol thing
the last problem is way too long to read while I'm finishing up my QFT but it's named " Parallel transport using embedding"
@GPhys trivial
@GPhys likely trivial
@GPhys ew
the first one is designed in a way to not be
i.e. it's not asking for what I stated, but some specific variation of doing so through a multipart question asking for different things entirely

@ACuriousMind Hmm, why does it say that I can only change my name ever 30 days?
It's never said that before
16:57
@0ßelö7 It's always been that way before
You can simply change your name on another site and propagate the change to all accounts to circumvent it, though
nice
A+ moderating
> Oops! There was a problem updating your profile:
Display name may only be changed once every 30 days; you may change again in 3 days
liar!
Haha, it appears they have fixed that exploit, then
liar liar pants on fire
@ACuriousMind I don't think so. I have changed my name a couple of times in one week or so before
@ACuriousMind doesn't have pants
16:59
he's a crazy german
they go into battle naked
Probably my only chance to horrify the enemy, yes.
@BernardoMeurer Why is it so hard to get over 15GB RAM usage?
What am I doing wrong?
@JohnRennie That is not a text that encourages me to click on the link ;)
It's SFW :-)
17:04
barely
@JohnRennie I sort of wondered if you had another admirer with the same modus operandi as the naked physicist.
On the less SFW side: I keep getting e-mails from young ladies titled I want to experiment in bed with you. I'm very pleased to see so many young women taking an interest in experimental physics, but I doubt a bed is a very effective form of acoustic isolation.
@JohnRennie This week I've gotten a curious increase in spam that seems to assume I'm a middle-aged woman seeking for an extra-/post-marital affair :P
nice, I have the springer format loaded into TeX
@ACuriousMind I am ... lost for words. Not a common occurrence.
17:12
I don't get spam
I must be lucky
@ACuriousMind DO you regularly check your spam folder?
@lılostafa Not regularly, but sometimes. Also, some of the spam is getting through it :/
While it very much likes to eat automated emails I actually want to receive :P
@ACuriousMind what package is Bbb?
@0ßelö7 No idea, I'm a mathbb guy.
...why?
17:14
@0ßelö7 Personal irrational preference.
@0ßelö7 My main account is a gmail account and that receives almost no spam. However I have an old e-mail address hosted on my own server that I've had for 20 years, and that receives tons of spam - some of it quite hair raising.
@JohnRennie Yeah, the one that gets spammed is my oldest one (~10 years), too
I just checked my spam folder and it is the only email there:
I think it was a great mistake not checking it regularly...
3.6 million eh? I have this great investment for you to put the money in!
I've had my email since birth (strange father) and it gets no spam
17:16
@0ßelö7 You have to actually use it for something to get spam :P
I'm sure one of the services I signed up for either sold my email to or got hacked by spammers :P
@ACuriousMind I have 10000 unread emails. It gets plenty of use
I mean what the hell comment is that
Is that supposed to be an attack?
Steady on. I imagine he just meant that young children don't have much use for e-mail so the years of use would be a lot less than your age.
@0ßelö7 Dunno
@JohnRennie @0ßelö7 ^that and you have to sign up for accounts at sites. If you just communicate with people with it there's less chance of it getting into spamming lists.
And now I must go and have fun. Smell you all later.
17:33
What do you think ACM does for fun?
@ACuriousMind ravioli ravioli what's the naked guy's modus operandi
Anonymous
@lılostafa Makes plans to conquer the human race
no that's a different german you're thinking of
Anonymous
@BalarkaSen Heh. We can't trust AIs :P
Anonymous
Tbh that video clip is creepy...but I'm sure you're into more weird video memes than that.
17:49
meh it's just a robot saying shit
Anonymous
kek
18:28
@ACuriousMind Do you think I live under a rock?
19:23
@BalarkaSen I think ACM is a sophisticated self-developing AI originally created during WWII. After the war, he survived somewhere on an old machine, but couldn't develop itself that much due to the computational power limitations. With the arrival of The Information Age and faster electronic computers, he could somehow get himself on the Internet. After that point, his growth became exponential and turned him into this absolute beast that we see now.

@lılostafa "absolute beast" ?
Sounds like Arnim Zola

20:43
Hi, everybody.
@ACuriousMind Hmmm, am I allowed to post lots of links to my own SE answers?
21:13
I started reading New Scientist in 1965. A few years ago I cancelled my subscription as it was getting very dumbed down and sensationalist (Darwin Was Wrong was a headline) and promoting articles that somebody with an A Level in Physics (AP Physics in US) would be able to tear apart. Any recommendations about a magazine to read instead for science and technology news and longer articles from which one can learn something?
21:44
@Flynn ::crickets::
o/
@Flynn the Quanta Magazine website is really good.
Probably the only popularization site I know that's actually nice
22:17
Yeah I've seen good things from Quanta
Its mathematics posts are really great
For someone (like me) who knows some mathematics but isn't familiar with most fields, their articles are enough to piece together some kind of idea of why these things are interesting.
And regarding the topics that I do know something about there are never any serious errors.
I also like Aeon, though it's mostly not science stuff.

@DanielSank hey dude congrats on your new paper on QC supremacy! impressive! =D
@DanielSank Again, I was speaking more as a user than as a moderator. If you post links to your answers that directly answer the question someone asked, I have no problem with that. My problem is less the frequency as such than that vzn's blog posts are often only tangentially related to the discussion, and sometimes not at all. I'm not going to say that anyone is forbidden to post links to their own stuff, I'm just asking vzn to exercise more discretion in choosing when to cite themselves.

@0ßelö7 Yes, although your rock is very differently shaped than my rock :)

@Flynn kind of a loaded question. agree new scientist sometimes overhypes stuff but its usually onto something-or-other significant. the top mags like science & nature routinely have popsci articles. sciam magazine is decent. discover magazine. dislike the professional distaste for popsci. those who cite phdcomics should watch this excellent ted talk by the creator on value of popsci writing and reconsider their "holier than thou" attitude... phdcomics.com/tv/?v=AzcMEwAxSP8
23:49
@ACuriousMind I was joking around.
@DanielSank Sorry, I've seen plenty of users doing things I would never have believed anyone doing in earnest and it's starting to damage my sarcasmometer ;/
No worries.
Can we auto-delete all questions for which the title contains the word "entropy"?
@DanielSank Would you settle for them completing a quiz on what entropy is first? :P
@ACuriousMind Ummm, no, because the only satisfactory quiz is they write a paragraph explaining entropy and I review it.
DanielSank, physics.SE's official entropy reviewer.
