I thought Wald was mr. rigor

he's not being that unrigorous
like he is being unrigorous at times but not enough for me as someone on the math side to really care
mind you im only like 45 pages in rn

12:25 AM
@bolbteppa abusing terminology doesn't count as being unrigorous

Q: What does 'user was removed' mean?

user187604In my feed I got this "user was removed" and - 5 reputation. What does it mean? Am I having any kind of trouble with this?

1:56 AM
@EricSilva it's not surreal it's something else i forgot
surreal memes don't use normie formats

@eulB it's deep fried

yeah

i dont go in for meme culture so i wouldnt knopw

@EricSilva I bet ben chow likes memes

i never understood memery

2:01 AM
do you watch rick and morty

surreal memes aren't memes technically
there's just not another word to describe them

i watched it and think it's ok

check out r/surrealmemes

sometimes bad

@EricSilva suppose I have a C^2 surface that's a cone in the sense of currents
is it flat?
by surface I mean 2-surface
I thin it should: one principal curvature should lie along a line
this is what happens with the standard cone

2:06 AM
i think rick and morty is kind of bad when it arcs and the fans make it less funny
i would imagine so

string theorists act now as this offer is only for a limited time!
that's stolen btw but i made it blue and added witten

@Mithrandir24601 Me too!

@EricSilva maybe you should do Navier Stokes in grad school
We've got a bunch of NS people here and that stuff seems 10/10 PDE

2:24 AM
@Meow Interesting question! I'd be surprised if this was not the case...
@ACuriousMind Except they come from the metric...

@0celo7 where are the big places doing ns

@EricSilva Tao does it

really?

2:33 AM
other than that, dunno

big boi ttao
i dont wanna live in LA

... prize chasing!

Oh, Cafarelli does it

I don't wanna live in the usa...

i dont wanna live in texas lol

2:34 AM
do you?

the USA is fanstastic
and so is Texas

3 hot 5 me

@0celo7 meh

it's not as hot as Brazil!

@0celo7 I hate when it gets above 20-23 C

2:35 AM
yeah but brazil has other things that cancel it out for me

@G.Bergeron that sounds like an unfortunate illness
@EricSilva robbery at gunpoint and polluted waters? humidity?

@EricSilva what's that shifted cypher?

@0celo7 family and culture

bah, sentiment

@0celo7 Isn't fantastic a bit over the top?

2:37 AM
and better food culture than america

@G.Bergeron no?
@EricSilva I've heard the food is good there, but I can't make a judgement until I go
it will be hard to beat german food

@0celo7 Hmm ok. I actively do not want to live there. It's actually a pain in the ass for my academic career.

if u like meat ur gonna like brazilian food

that sounds like a ridiculous personal problem @G.Bergeron

also i play brazilian music pretty seriously so it would be good to be surrounded by it

2:38 AM
@EricSilva I like meat

you will like churrasco then

@0celo7 Eh maybe, but I mean I actually have reasons. I didn't decided that by flipping a coin, you know?

Churrasco (Spanish: [tʃuˈrasko], Portuguese: [ʃuˈʁasku]) is a Spanish and Portuguese term referring to beef or grilled meat more generally, differing across Latin America and Europe, but a prominent feature in the cuisine of Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Nicaragua, Peru and other Latin American countries. The related term churrascaria (or churrasqueria) is mostly understood to be a steakhouse. A churrascaria is a restaurant serving grilled meat, many offering as much as one can eat: the waiters move around the restaurant with the skewers, slicing meat onto the client's plate...
why is the meat all raw
like literally raw

idk, you dont eat it raw lol

@0celo7 I'm afraid of the federal government, to be honest.
I might go for a postdoc, though.

2:41 AM
There's lots of people afraid of the government for totally different reasons

I don't wear tinfoil hats, if this is what you're implying...
I also don't trust the justice department over ther

what kind of shady shit are you doing

i think there are good reasons to sometimes be weary

LOL

sometimes bad reasons
but sometimes good

2:43 AM
I'm afraid the government will take away my right to go down the street prepared for a war with the UN
gotta be ready

It is just not fair anymore. Elected judges, commercially run prisons, horrible DEA, corrupted FDA, I mean the list goes on and on

the american prison system was literally never good
it's better than like e.g. brazil but it's not good

To be honest I have limited sympathy for drug offenders. Sure the rules are ridiculous, but it's not a surprise we lock people up and throw away the key.
Just don't smoke weed!
Wait for the laws to change.

@0celo7 Well, see! We disagree on that, right away!

sounds like someone who's never met people who do drugs

2:45 AM
@0celo7 I have one life on this Earth

@EricSilva Uh, no?

lol

You realize this destroys entire sub-communities for ''crimes'' which aren't really
@0celo7 LOL

Addicts are, addicted.

Right..... Ok, you know what, I think I won't even try

2:46 AM
@G.Bergeron I already said the rules are ridiculous.

@0celo7 So you should blindly follow them?

If you don't want to get locked up, yeah.

if you say "wait for the laws to change" you probably dont have a good grasp of the things that drive people to do drugs

@0celo7 How's that for a country that's supposed to be fantastic?

@G.Bergeron I don't do drugs, so it's fantastic for me :P

2:48 AM
@0celo7 Those people live just around from you

Also there are states where pot is legal

I don't want to have to live in a gated community

What

@0celo7 pot is not the point

i mean pot also has a bad history in terms of it's illegality in the us

2:49 AM
@0celo7 Your take seem to be ''AH well I'll just not get in trouble and to hell with those who do!''

@EricSilva what drugs are you talking about

i think it's pretty fair to rebel against it
a lot of drugs? moreso the habit forming ones than like pot, but pot too

@G.Bergeron Are you trying to make the point that some people have to sell drugs to survive?

@0celo7 I can't fathom how a bunch of remote ignorant are supposed to be deciding what I do with my body

@G.Bergeron I'm an anarchist, I don't either.

2:51 AM
@0celo7 No, I'm saying the misery those stupid laws bring on people still surround you even if you don't partake

But what I really can't fathom is how so many people are locked up for something that everyone knows will get you locked up for!

@0celo7 SO how can the state of the country not enrage you?
@0celo7 So you're not really anarchist then?

@G.Bergeron What?

@0celo7 why dont you sit down with someone who has been and try to find out instead of wondering

I don't know anyone who has been to jail.

2:52 AM
make new friends!
speak to strangers!

Ex-cons aren't high on my potential friends list

odds are if you have an unnuanced opinion on the issue, it's probably deeply flawed

Have you watched Scared Straight!

''so many people are locked up for something that everyone knows will get you locked up for!'' anarchist would be pissed at the very fact it gets you locked up

idk some of the ex-convicts ive known are better people than the very respectable students i find myself surrounded with these days

2:54 AM
How do you even meet ex-cons

ive been homeless

Ok

People can get convicted for extremely stupid shit. Then there life is fucked for life
And since companies run prisons, there is an incentive to lock up MORE people

which is also a thing that's criminalized in some places
which is more crazy

This right there is horrible and totally beyond me

2:55 AM
@G.Bergeron I'm pissed about the effect is has on their kids and loved ones.

@0celo7 I'd argue this effect comes from the criminalization in the first place
*mostly
Honestly who came up with the idea of an privately run prison?

A smart ass dude.

@0celo7 Yeah, like a psychopath

i mean there's something deeply cruel about treating a pathological behavior that's difficult to physically control as a crime and not something to be taken care of in some other rehabilitative form

@G.Bergeron oh come on

2:57 AM
Free enterprise

@0celo7 I'm serious
No one should be in the business of bullying people on a daily business

@EricSilva Look, I agree with that. Wonder what percentage of pot lockups fall into that category though.

i mean the question of pot is a different thing
it shouldnt be criminalized in the first place

Even if they chose to consume pot out of their own ''free will'' or whatever, the very criminalization of the act irks me to the highest level

criminalizing it creates another sort of problem, it forces people whove done something that isnt really wrong to begin with into a position that makes it way more likely they're gonna have to do something wrong
