I were having ... "fun". Gladly this time the phpDocBlock was (a) present and (b) not lying at me.
I had problems with base64-encoded icons and theme validations some time ago
Validation == getting theme accepted in repo?
yes
base64 encoding makes you suspicios
Thought about that when I read it. They really need to drop that shit.
yea, just wanted to share this with you :)
00:03
A valid argument for menu_icon in register_post_type is ... wait for it ... a base64 encoded SVG ! ... #WordPress #ThemeReview
beside this it works like a charm :)
Better share it with the world :)
;)
Somehow nothing works quickly today... next obstacle: post type columns.
and for some reason my metabox callback doesn't get called. I should leave it.

@MayeenulIslam good to see :) at least someone doing it on bangla :)
this is weird.. I added a menu item (with admin privileges) and it is showing (pending)

@TomJNowell just found your tweet from Oct last year, we use WPE for our app and its pitiful that they don't yet support 5.4+. I've been wanting features I use elsewhere in 5.4 that we just can't use in our app. Yet WPE are apparently built atop Linode, which I wish we'd had gone with directly instead...
o_O
I am starting to lose track of what the heck managed WP hosts charge big money for
for aggressively caching your JS files making git dev on your staging branches a nightmare...
for causing you grief with their CDN
for keeping you locked down in antiquated versions of software
that's what we pay big bucks for
so far managed WP hosts are kind of Apple of hosting. do less, pay more, feel good.

The Truth.
I understand security is an issue, but as Tom pointed out, its really NOT. The whole WP ecosystem is living in the dark ages.
even my hostgator shared account lets you choose!

@Rarst The name. And the inexplicably well-sold lie that a server needs to somehow need to be 'geared' to WordPress :/
11:34
there are other benefits to managed hosting
e.g. people who visit the VIP hosting and see CFTP logo then come to us with no intention of using VIP
so effectively, it's also marketing budget
interconnect also priced up how much it would cost to employ someone to do the server stuff and it was cheaper to get an external company to do it
we are not talking about server grids level, we are talking about pretentious VPS level :)

shittiest thing on win: %PATH% ... and getting resetted by various updates.
why? and I don't remember it ever being reset, I have bunch of custom crap added to it
me too. first thing that disappeared without anything getting added or installed to the system was npm and node.
now puppet and vagrant are gone alongside bower, grunt, etc.
in between git wasn't recognized by bower anymore and so on.
this is ~ the 3rd time this happened...
you might have a case of shitty software doing that
"not so funny" side fact: It's recognized by cmd, but not by gitk/ Git/GNU Bash
already checked that. not sure what could be causing that.
that's the joy of linux :)
12:49
I know. But can't use it due to other software that's only available on win and that I need.
Hm. env|grep PATH shows me a completely different %PATH% setting than I can see in the environment settings... damn it!
13:08
Sooo annoying. Powershell and cmd got the correct PATH everywhere. Git Bash only got it inside the users dir... don't get it.
13:24
@kaiser do you know this laravel.com/api/…?
@G.M. nope. but might be handy for WP as well. For some hooks/filters you can't use Closures because of the serialization.
IIRC wp_uninstall_hook() is such a case.
@kaiser yes, is what I meant. it's an interface that can be copied, pasted and then implemented in WP.
Not that I'd do that :)
Sure :)
14:16
anyone have links to good domain mapping article? I want to map a domain to CPT permalink
14:26
@Sisir no, but... ask a question on main?
15:24
Today I visited @kaiser's git repositories, and found wpgear.org
2
Most of them are on github
may be still under development
if I decide to use them for client's site, how safe are they?
if any wrong commit happen...
and without new version notification
chat is packed two full lines of avatars, don't remember that happening before :)
:)
but most of 'em are inactive. :)
someone said there was free coffee
no free beer? I'll leave
@MayeenulIslam as safe as any dot org plugin. probably safer
@MayeenulIslam Always test and look at tags and branches to see where stable stuff can be found.
@kaiser Hmm. That well said.
15:36
also @Rarst if you stretch your browser out, its just one full line of avatars ;)
scrunch it to make 4x4!
it's on portrait display for me :)
@GhostToast I zoomed out my browser, and found 1 full line. ;)
portrait display? you on ipad?
I have 2x27", one landscape, one portrait

Bangladeshi WordPressers are cordially invited to "WordPressers Bangladesh" chatroom.
http://chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/12759/wordpressers-bangladesh
We will chat there in Bangla, and assist each other.
The Loop is our base, but we can chat in Bangla in "WordPressers Bangladesh"
is there something like this? get_comment_author_first_name()?
i have email addresses AS usernames on a site. and now they're commenting and revealing their email addresses in standard comment template
get_comment_author_link() returns link as their username
supposedly get_comment_author() returns $user->display_name if no $comment->comment_author is present... so in theory it should use the display name. but it just DOESNT.
@GhostToast 8-| !!
theory - the comment author is saved as whatever the display name was at that time, and won't update even if i modify the display name of a user
must do one more test
yup. it took whatever display_name was at that time
now to programmatically force everyone's display_name to be in First Last format
17:36
yet another case of mind-control parasitic behavior. this time the target is the honey bee: ZomBee Watch
@StephenHarris his mommy never held him
@GhostToast hehe
@GhostToast display name might just be the username - depends on setting - so that would be why its using the e-mail?
@GhostToast ... ok you're ahead of me :)
its a membership site and for simplicity, i made the username actually be identical to their email address, rather than coming up with some convention for unique usernames
came back to bite me when Display Name was defaulting to their email address (username). but i fixed it
@GhostToast Always thought WP should ditch usernames...
or at least a way to toogle them off for security
18:10
@Wyck how would it improve security?
bots crawl the site for usernames because they are output in a bunch of places and then use them to login, helps the login odds
well for starters, you wouldn't have "admin" as a username, like ever
there is a trac ticket about it from years ago, not going anywhere
i wish they'd remove the hint that alerts when a correct username is being provided, with incorrect password
"Incorrect password for user admin" for example
wp scan scan does username crawling for example, one of the many
18:12
@Wyck that's true.
its very effective
because people also use their usernames in the password with like 123 added to the end
damn! remind me to change the combination on my luggage
I've started using 'password' again. No one expects it anymore.
speaking of passwords, this morning I had to ask an IT guy to make a server at a company he emails me the info: db:website login:website pass:website
no f&cks given on my part
::facedesk::
18:16
it had been a rough back and forth already I just left it at that
questions like "why do you need a database"
IT guys must undergo a pretty rough hazing period, as they always seem to be really paranoid
ya responsibilities and all hehe, I could never do what they do
though they pay is pretty damn good
I think most stressed individual on the planet are IT who deal with the stock market
most of them look 65 and bald but they are only like 30
this trac ticket is like watching someone kick a dead horse core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/21663
18:35
tl;dr
lets use pdo..lets not..lets use pdo..lets not
did_action('some_action') return TRUE when current_filter() === 'some_action'. Misnamed?
18:53
anyone know if there is a way to choose a term_id when creating a new term?
@GhostToast when create via wp_insert_term? If so first argument can be the id
first argument is listed as "term", i assumed that is slug
hmm. i see
then pass args

Q: Is there a way to retire old tags?

Jim McKeethI would like to retire some old tags I used to use. Is there a way to migrate them to a new tag, or even better, remove them from previous posts?

20:30
whats that thing called where there is a sticky tab on the side of the browser
hmm. position:absolute ?
position:fixed
@Wyck I call it a major annoyance.
"side tabs" maybe that's what they are called
20:52
@Wyck you talking about the browser feature to make tiny, un-close-able tabs, or a piece of web-code?
@boscho I mean those annoying thing that are fixed to the window and say things like "social media some bullshit click me' , I just wondered if they have an actual name
ahh, gotchya. I know the names for the browser features, but no idea if the annoying side-tab crap has a widely recognized name
"persistent navigation" ?
floating navigation
sticky navigation
something like that
I feel like the one I run into most frequently these days is a "Feedback" tab.
21:57
ya
lol. Love the first comment: "The Dark Knight Rinses"
22:39
@GhostToast with ballpoint pens, nonetheless O.o
@toscho like 250 cars off road in Austin, TX
i haven't seen the ground since november
where you at, Toast? Despite all the freak storms it's been a pretty standard Colorado Winter - just got into the negative degs F a little quicker this year.
i'm by chicago
snow melts, snow comes back, snow melts again
ahhhh
yeah you've got it much worse O.o

Q: Need Assistnace with Garvity Gorms

LevHow I ca create UNIQUE ORDER ID NUMBER in Gravity Forms I cannot use JavaScript PDF_EXTENDER will not display it Thank You

decently humid there too, if I'm not mistaken?
We still have the best typos
@toscho that's got to be referring to a mythological beast of some sort.
perhaps related to the Jabberwocky
garvity gorms, awesome
@boscho yea we get like all the weather one can stomach usually
22:46
people can’t type assassin nowadays
but richest farmlands :P apparently IL produces like 90% of US pumpkins
@toscho which is a shame considering it has such a simple mnemonic...
@GhostToast you, sir, are the Pumpkin King
I think I'm done with Winter for a few years. Back to California!
i was born in houston, TX. lived there about 7 years, also lived in orlando, FL for about 7 years
the novelty of snowy winters is kiiiiinda starting to wear off
our last winter lasted until April. then came the flood.
@GhostToast it'll do that. It's beautiful and fun until you have to commute in the stuff, or dig yourself out of your house on a regular basis
22:48
though, IL is a tall state. in the middle of it, barely any snow
Howdy, @GhostToast! Sorry, I don't get in here often
@toscho that's rather prophetic
@EAMann no problem, just wanted to give a shoutout to my future coworkers i've discovered on WPSE. going to be starting at 10up week of Feb 17th
Has that been officially announced by the company yet?
@EAMann I don't believe so
22:50
We usually keep things like this quiet until the boss gets to make an announcement ;-)
whoops. i'll try to contain my enthusiasm. thanks for the heads up :D
No worries
@toscho I think that man may fully grasp the concept of the "Icing" drinking "game"
more than any frat bro ever will.
meeehhhh... don't worry about it. Don't bother looking it up, really. Don't know how it started, but there's no game involved - just an excuse to drink...
But it seemed to be an apt description for the awesome Scandinavian toscho posted.
23:00
-_- that doesn't even seem like a stupid drinking game, it's just, why?
they could've picked a better drink than smirnoff ice
precisely. I don't understand why it became "viral" - makes me worried for humanity.
because paranoid parents in america?
like all the other stupid games they worry about that nobody ever does
Garvity Gorms
made me chuckle
beware the Garvity Gorms!
I think this explains @Rarst’s code style.
