you are forced to die once at the beginning - probably intended as a tutorial.
After that "free" death I would suggest to play as safe as one can because resetting milestones has the potential to be super annoying.
I didn't had much time to play, I saw that some milestones are called "Anchors" instead of rendezvous points like usual, so I wonder if those acts as "restart points" if you die.

build a base at each anchor point to be able to fast forward if anything goes horribly wrong.
I also suspect that the capital ship inventory isn't cleared, so prioritize orbital transmitter and orbital materializer. Keep everything precious in the capital ship inventory, abuse the materializer to summon the Minotaur as fast as you can.
Minotaur AI drive also should get priority.
Just do not attempt to convert the Minotaur to the sentinel variant, doing that in an expedition is both a waste of time and a potential suicide.
