@ᴅᴀɴɪᴇʟッ since visitor don't even have the split vote privileges, the total vote score is noisy by default. +1 can mean one single upvote, 4 downvotes and 5 up and so on.
@hyper-neutrino ... official answer is that. Little problem is that the expand vote thing is on demand...... and can be replicated by anyone by installing user script that is even advertised on the site
codidact just shows the upvote and downvote counts everywhere; granted, it's much smaller, but more likely the implementation just makes it not an expensive operation

The vote counts are a great tool to determine whether an answer is disputed or not. Unfortunately, not many of us have enough time to join all Stack Exchange websites and get 1000 reputation.

@Peilonrayz voting requires high numbers to be effective. It simply not scales for basically most sites where a post receives less than 3 votes on average.
honestly every single privilege being tied to a singular number is rather silly
it is possible that certain things, specifically maybe parts of MSE, will eventually move away from this and have better metrics of experience, but i'm not counting on it, not soon at least
So, in the meantime, you have to live with posts that claim that Megaman was created with Dr Wily collaboration, was turned into a villain like the other six original robot masters before being converted again, the USA box with the horrible art and the handgun is cannon and so on.....
@SPArcheon You're not wrong normally, but your argument doesn't work with HNQ. A good number of my answer have gone hot. One got ratioed, and whilst it was up I was constantly getting more rep even though the score was absolutely terrible, like +2/-8. Downvotes even in high numbers aren't effective ever IMO
@Peilonrayz true. But downvotes in high numbers, if not offset by large numbers of upvotes (deserved or pity) at least work as a visual clue that something is off
Not a punishment to the poster, but a clue to the reader that they should not believe those info.
that said, it is something to think about that we don't have a way to counter wrong info other than trying to submerge it with downvotes... and then being called unwelcoming.
The example I made was not random, I indeed spotted an answer about Megaman that is mostly made up / wrong info.
Yet I have to pay with my rep to downvote it.
And it just gets a meager -1.
@hyper-neutrino BTW, since you dropped here. Don't know if you are interested, but know that the third fishing training spot in the fishing event has a random chance to give you a bottle with some additional, uneded lore about the event.
If you want the bottle for collection/completion purpose, get it before the thing ends.
So, I am at around episode 20 of S1 of Shakugan no Shana.
The plan is to read two of the only 3 volumes TLed, in other words volume 7 and 8 and skip ahead somewhere to S2.
Then the plan is to get anime content for volume 9 and read the manga adaptation of the 10th volume (and the wiki summary for...
