actually what I think should happen is some more of these responsibilities should be shifted to the community

I think we can trust more than 1 non-mod from the top users to do the mod stuff

we could extend their privileges a bit

(actually I can't think of anyone wanting to do stuff beyond that so we'll have to wait and see what other potential candidates have to say)

I think a good answer to your question might go into the cultural divide and language barrier between the East and the West as an explanation why Western critics, by and large, aren't interested in anime. It might also touch upon the fact that anime only really became easily consumable over here since the invention of the Internet and fan subs, meaning that a lot of people won't have had all that much exposure to it.
