@ʞɹɐzǝɹ wai dere no b yanyan with no dere
@LoganM a bit of explanation is in order, many questions seem to skew towards, anime. While I'm not too enthusiastic with requiring a franchise tag, I'm at least willing to give it a try. The idea here is to do some multivariate testing: FMA with the franchise and split series tag, dragonball with just the split in continuities, and everything else as they are.
I agree that suddenly changing how the tagging works is an arduous endeavor, which is why I'll try to see this experiment from beginning to end. If it doesn't work, it will be a testament of why we shouldn't approach the subject in such a manner. If it somehow does, it can be take as a sort of precedence for future policy.
The primary goal of all this is to try to give the user that want to participate a change to get more involved. Sure sometimes we might make mistakes and get side tracked or tunnel visioned with certain policies or matters, but it's all a part of growing as a community and figuring out what we want to do.
@Tyhja violent !== yandere or even yangire
I've made provisions in order to be able to more easily revert things in call everything fall though. I'll write a clearer post of the intent and goals of this change this weekend. Series like Aria wouldn't change, a question about the Aqua manga will still fall under the "aria" tag. As for IM@S, certain series like puchimasu or idolmaster xenoglossia are far enough removed for the original games to be considered seperate franchises.
05:32
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ i mean the "yanyan" version of "deredere"
@Tyhja they're just yamu 病む
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ is that a term or just a normal adjective
@Tyhja is a verb
to fall sick
yes i know, i mean in the context of describing such... "characters"?
@Tyhja this first part of yandere, unlike tsundere is not made of a onomatopoeic or mimetic word
it's from 病んでる (yanderu, "to be sick", a contraction of 病んでいる (yandeiru))
05:40
user image
2
病む (yamu) is the progressive form of this
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ oh tsun is not a word?
i rephrase. i didnt know tsun was onomatopoeic
tsundere is a portmanteau of ツンツン ‎(tsun-tsun, "to turn away in disgust") + デレデレ ‎(dere-dere, "to become lovey-dovey")

05:50
Index and Railgun (and spinoffs of that, like Accelerator's), since they are related but entirely seperate stories would merit a franchise tag to connect them. Part of the intend is to get people to use tag wikis that we've been neglecting

Andrew GrimmDoes "バルス", which is popular in tweeting during Laputa, have any meaning or etymology, or rationale for being in katakana?

09:10
interframe?
Usually when creating anime, the main animators animate only the main frames
The rest, called interframe is done by the juniors.
main animators also called key animators
ah i see. i never really remember the terminology
For example, when Toshinou Kyouko are talking in a 24fps anime, the Key Animator might worked only on the first and last frame, while frame no 2 to 23 are done by the junior

Mad DuWould anyone tell me what manga the picture in this post is from? please ? https://twitter.com/aranimeconfess/status/687830451923333121

Depending on the skill of the junior, the interframe might have a very noticeable quality difference compared to the frame done by the key animator
09:17
dont they do QC?
i thought CGeass was pretty high on production wasn't it
@Tyhja Yes, but of course they also have to meet deadline, so some rather low quality images might pass
did you try the bluray release?
sometimes they cleanup stuff in the bluray

@AshishGupta I only knew about the anime version until recently
Damn, my mic input is f***ed up
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan Hi o/
13:55
Guys, what should I do? I bought male-male cable to use my cellphone as a mic in my laptop. The cellphone plugs fine, but the computer mic input is large, or maybe I bought the wrong cable. If I plug it on the speaker input, the cellphone identifies "a headphone" (what should happen with the mic input). Damn :c
14:05
@MichaelMcQuade Thanks :>
Even I found out about it a year after I had begun with the anime. :P
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan Why not try interfit sync cable (bit.ly/1QaRV71) or something of the sort?
@AshishGupta I actually never heard of it
Uninstalled all audio drivers. Time to reboot.
14:41
@Hakase Votes on meta usually signify agreement
That applies to both question and answers
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ: as examples, would this question be tagged with , and this with , , and then?
Or would it be up solely to the OP's discretion (in which case, I assume might contain questions not in , given that people seem more likely to have seen the anime)?
I'd say both with fma-series only
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan: the events the OP asks about in the second question only happen in the manga / FMA:B.
@Maroon Oh, I see
I've only seen FMA:B
(and AFAIK it's pretty much the manga, IDK)
Is @HoiHoi working?
!!tell Chinatsu say Hello Chinatsu
@Chinatsu Hello Chinatsu

yup.
@AshishGupta lol, uninstalling the drivers worked. ^__^
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan That's good :3
@Maroon yes; for the 2nd the manga tag is situational, if it directly specifies the manga, yes
@AstralSea Your comment on this question: anime.stackexchange.com/questions/28974/… Perfectly matches the question description. I checked the synopsis of all the time travel anime (that I found listed on the top sites) and none of them seemed to match with the question

15:17
@AshishGupta wow, uninstalling the drivers DIDN'T work. u__u
it connects for like 10 seconds and then disconnects. It was happening before but restarting the drivers worked
the problem is clearly the computer
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan Lol. Does it not work with an earphone/headphone?
If it does, then the problem is the connector you're using for your cellphone
i can't say. my earphone is audio in only.
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan if the male-male is smaller on one end then it is probably a 2.5mm plug. The computer probably uses a 3.5mm plug. Something like this should work: amazon.com/Steren-2-5mm-3-5mm-Cable-Stereo/dp/B00291N83O
@CuddleBunny the weird part is that it works with the speaker input
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan Hmm. I see. I'd suggest using what CuddleBunny sent you or something similar/an earphone with mic. This is the first time I've heard of using cellphone as a mic for comp
So idk much about it ;_;
15:29
it could be that the port you're using is input only too
what kind of phone is it?
@CuddleBunny If you mean model, Microsoft Lumia 640 dual chip
Is there any policy about answering bad [identification-request] questions?
oh, so it does only have a 3.5mm
@CuddleBunny yeah, as I said, the first 10 minutes were ok, but then it started to "oscillate" again
Browsing this search query is kind of depressing since the questions won't be eligible for roomba due to upvoted/accepted answers...
15:35
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan what app are you recording with
Real microphone
Tho the "headphone" (that would be the computer audio-in) disconnects even if I don't open the app
looks like it works with bluetooth have you tried that?
Then on the PC if your audio section looks like this: abletonlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/… you want to plug it into the pink one
@AndrewT. It's totally upto you, IMO. I, for one, tend to avoid answering questions which I know are duplicates. If it's a badly framed question with less details (and hence the downvotes), but you know the answer to it, why not post it? :)
For example: anime.stackexchange.com/questions/25857/… This question was answered properly and has downvotes due to lacking details. Doesn't mean it shouldn't have a good answer
@AndrewT. I think people are too harsh on id-req questions, but I'm not a mod so I don't have to be bombarded with them all day...
Usually, on the networks I'm active, we use comment to provide answer so that the question is still eligible for automatic deletion.
15:40
Btw I just noticed. The question I linked has 5 upvotes and 7 downvotes :o
I think id-req questions of low quality should be left at zero
unless they're really bad or dupes
^exactly. You can't expect new users to follow all the guidelines suggested for a good identification question.
Atleast if you're downvoting it, be courteous enough to leave a comment as to why it was downvoted and how the user can improve the question
that and as a community I think we're pretty good at finding the answer based on some extremely obscure information and if no one knows it is okay to leave it sit until someone comes along that does
there just needs to be some shred of semi-unique information in the question
15:45
True
I see.
That reminds me of this: anime.stackexchange.com/questions/28776/… (see the comments)
Oh this is sick
user image

It's hard to imagine this community without identification questions :p
@CuddleBunny nope. does it? lol
15:48
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan Who comes up with this stuff? x_X
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan the app reviews say there is a bit of a delay with bluetooth but that it works
@Memor-X Okay, will do :)
I don't disagree with good identification requests (some even made me curious), but for the rest...
@AshishGupta yeah, I'd say that is a solid question. It doesn't readily help any other user, but something about the image inspired curiosity in the asker so perhaps it will inspire the same in future viewers.
I have a proposal that I will suggest after the tagging stuff is sorted
15:53
I just noticed id-req is the most asked questions (2k questions). I'm worried what Robben wrote is coming true.
@CuddleBunny I'm not too sure of how to do it
@AndrewT. that's pretty bad
(sorry, wrong query. There are 1700 out of 2000)
@MadaraUchiha I know but don't you think it could be more detailed than that?
Well, it doesn't seem that bad..
@AndrewT. that query doesn't work for me
i have results that are like +4 in there
15:57
@Chinatsu-creepy-chan you'd go into the bluetooth settings on your PC, turn on bluetooth on your phone, and user one to pair to the other

Q: A New Code License: The MIT, this time with Attribution Required

some crapshow goin on
Holy shit

Must see~
who the hell thought attribution required is beneficial to anyone
that's extra text nobody cares about
I don't see why the current CC licence isn't appropiate
we gotta make things better, not advertise ourselves
idk gotta read this now
16:00
it can apply to code too, it's not common, but it's possible
@ToshinouKyouko the current license requires attribution, even though no one actually does it
Attribution is fine
I would like all my posts to be attributed to me
The voting on the previous meta post is not a reliable indicator for how the community views this version of the proposal in my opinion. There are just too many different concerns mixed into this single number. — Mad Scientist yesterday
before all this discourse, I didn't even know SO code was licensed...
Generally, you should attribute anything that is not yours tbh
16:03
which is why I keep saying up/down votes are not a good indicator of people's opinion on a meta post
If i ever grab some code off a site I'll stick a small comment in
if I copy code verbatim from an answer I add a link to said answer in a comment for context
99% of the time though I adapt the code because the context or conventions are wildly different
I think keeping it simple for the main site is fine, but for meta we should really get more in detail about our thoughts
145
A: Can we talk about the voting culture here on Meta?

Shog9So I've been kinda chewing on this since your email, because... It's one of those simple questions that defies a simple answer. You're not the only person to raise this concern, of course: several respected users, moderators and even co-workers have expressed dismay upon seeing reasonable questio...

oh look related posts
you have to take the meta page as a whole
16:07
what do you mean?
as in, if you are making a decision about someithng - you shouldn't just look at the top answer
you look at all the answers, and see if there is a common sentiment
if there isn't, make a judgement call based on the comments
something like that
I mean I would love it if you could look at the meta page and see immediately some stats panel which says if users think there is a common sentiment here or if opinions differ, without having to read anything in advance
and for each post, if it's a solution or just a detailed comment
if the solution is deemed good by users or bad
and if people agree with it or not

Q: When will Bleach anime return?

user18661Why did it end in 2012 and when will Studio Pierrot resume its production to finish the reminder in the Thousand Year Blood War(Quincy Saga)as Kubo continues to produce them?

all separate stats
might be hard to determine the synonymity of the answers, but that could be cool.
16:13
I understand people will be like "wtf no we only want one up/down vote stat" but sometimes people don't know what they want until they get it
for the main site I agree, we gotta keep it simple, as nobody expects ordinary users to go that deep in detail about their opinion on a Q or A
but on meta, a place specifically for going into details about things?
I think that's a perfect place for that
and for honesty's sake I'd even propose to make those votes public, so everyone would feel some weight of their vote
there are a lot of people who will abuse voting systems while they're anonymous, but not when they are public
I haven't thought this through but I think it's an interesting direction
Apparently since there are as many SE sites as Gen 1 Pokemon, a list was made to match SE site to Pokemon, sorted by date of creation.
I don't think that is a good idea
anonymity is an important part of voting
A&M is Haunter.
what if I support A&M being a SE for all cartoons but i dont want the abuse of the other voters
for instance
oh right I completely forgot about vengeful people
sorry!
Haunter is cool
happens when you live in a fantasy world :p
alright, no public votes, just more detailed in terms of (dis)agreement and goodness/badness
unanonymous vote for a single-tomato dictatorship
all downvoters will be shot
what info I'd like to see on meta posts: Q1. Whether the post is about a problem with the site or something else like asking to explain how something works Q2. If users recognize it as a problem, and it's not made up. Q3. How important users think this problem is. A1. If users think an answer is actually an answer, and not a long comment on the problem. A2. If users think it's a good or a bad solution to the problem.
something about quality as a separate stat should be added I think, but I'm not sure if we get all that, it would be useful
good/bad solution is already a quality stat
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ @Mad ^
@JNat I'd like your input on this, guys
just this message block, don't read above
16:29
Ah, ok
@Hakase I don't think I'm getting this without context — can you summarise?
What's this about, really?
meta votes are very poor indicators of public opinion on the matters discussed
you don't really know what people think just from the total post score
more detailed stats could shed more light on that
it's hard to say what's going on at a glance, you gotta read and sometimes a lot, if not everything, to understand what people think
for example, when you like an idea but see it as very low quality, you can press Good solution button and Low quality
currently that would mean zero sum and you may not want to vote at all on a post like that
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ: got it. (Not sure if I'm wholly happy with the details, but that makes sense, and I'd have to think through it first before producing any real complaints.) When are we rolling out the changes?
which leaves no indication of your opinion at all
unless you comment or upvote an existing comment which goes in line with your opinion, but I think buttons are easier to read
16:37
So, wait, @Hakase: is this a proposal for how we should expose posts and whatnot, or a feature-request?
it's a WIP feature request for expanding post votes for meta
@Maroon did you change your avatar?
@turbo_MaCk Are you logged in when seeing this? We don't serve leaderboards to users such as yourself with >= 200 reputation.
@turbo_MaCk That's also not an ad we would approve - it's very tasteless, so we want to find out the source (i.e. injected on your end?)
@Hakase Hmm, I see
I'm gonna re-read everything you wrote, and try to give some feedback
gimme some time
ok sure
16:39
and it may come fragmented :P
better than nothing
@ToshinouKyouko: yeah, went back to the default Gravatar (?) setting.
@Hakase So Q1 here is solvable with tags. There's is it's something that needs to be discussed with the community, and if it's a "not sure how this works" type of thing.
ah, I was right
@ToshinouKyouko 'bout what I said?
Or something else?
16:43
about Maroon changing their avatar
@Hakase Q here denotes stuff you want the question to be able to transmit, and A stuff the answer(s) should be able to transmit? Or am I reading this wrong?
@ToshinouKyouko Ah, nothing to do with me then, sorry :P
@JNat yes
Q is question stat, A is for answers
I see
@Hakase So you're proposing a scenario in which the question raises a problem, and the solutions are posted as answers?
I think tags don't necessarily mean that the question is recognized by the community as an existing, actual problem that could be improved
@Hakase Yeah yeah, I meant that for Q1 only
I'll get to Q2 in a bit, once you clarify what you meant
16:48
I want to break apart regular votes into main important qualities of posts which users are actually looking for when looking at post scores
I mean what do you learn from total post score? And what do you really want to know about a post?
this is what I'm after with this
@Hakase In Meta, voting is supposed to denote whether or not you agree with what is being said
so if a post talks about a problem, you downvote if you don't think it is a problem
but that is not everything that is important to know or say, is it?
@Hakase Of course not
16:49
what if you think it's a real problem but the OP is going about it in a very bad way?
how do you vote?
most people would downvote but that doesn't mean the problem isn't real, BUT it gives such an impression, which is not something anybody wants
@Hakase You probably don't, and leave a comment or answer explaining what you disagree with
@Hakase Ah, I see what you mean here
ok
I linked above some big meta posts where top folks including shog speak about the issue and how it's not easy to resolve
this is my take on it
@Hakase Basically what you want to get at, is a way for people to understand all of this clearly and fast without having to read through a lot of stuff, and for those who want to express that that's their point of view to be able to do so without having to type a whole lot. That it?
yes
@Hakase Can you point me to some of those posts?
16:52

yea nobody got time to read that
basically you can see that the problem hasn't been solved yet if you look at any post with a large number of votes that doesn't say much about the actual opinion of the community
