Manga isn't usually restricted or rated. There are a small number of manga which are restricted to 18+ (often just in Tokyo), but most things (even fairly sexual) aren't restricted.

Usually they don't do that. Some very popular/dubious VN makers will first make an all-ages version and later add h-scenes to force people to buy it a second time, but most don't do that.

More common for an 18+ game which is very popular to come-out with a console/handheld version which is all-ages (or just down to 17+ or something) with just h-scenes removed.

@Eric After our conversation on Tuesday, I looked into it, and the stats don't seem to support the idea that SE is preferrentially graduating older sites. Rather, they show that over the past year, SE's primary motivations have been other more valuable predictors of success, like number of questions or users.
To make it explicit, I listed 129 sites at stackexchange.com/sites#traffic and ranked them according to each statistic. So SO is rank 1 for all stats other than % answered, where it's 119. We're 91 for age, 51 for traffic, and 68 for Q/D.

Well, it's easy to do anyway. After the graduations, positive correlation goes up to 0.376, negative also up to 0.362.

Incidentally, that's possible for both the positive and negative correlations to increase a small amount when they're both small.

Shouldn't happen if one correlation is relatively large though.

@Eric Okay, results are as follows. I was able to construct a best linear approximation, which has 0.920 correlation. That's not a whole lot larger than #Q by itself, but if you just want a single number to look at, this is it. By that, the average graduated site ranks only 24.98. The best possible with 45 graduated sites is 23, so that's pretty good. Other than StackApps, which is #78, the lowest any currently graduated site comes in at is 52, which is Mi Yodeya. 50 and 51 are Skeptics and Christianity, respectively. I probably shouldn't really count StackApps at all, but I've included it …

I actually have a lot of you comparatively. But I mostly tried to get original characters or characters from obscure series, because if I went mainstream too much I knew I'd get complaints of favoritism.

as for why more original characters, starting a discussion is fine. But if I add the ones I like, we'll have a lot of discussion of stuff like Gochiusa and very little about stuff like SnK. I'd rather not force my own tastes on people more than is absolutely necessary.

Also, for most anime, there simply isn't a ton of good art. There might be a couple hundred SFW pieces total between all fanart which isn't completely terrible and official art. I added a few screencaps but I'd rather avoid them unless they're really good because usually screencaps are sub-par artistically. Unless I spend a really long time finding those images, I'll end up with at most 50 or so per series, which would come out to one per thousand images.

I think for a lot of shows we're already at that level. There are certainly more that I could find from e.g. Monogatari or SnK, but I doubt there's a lot more I could get from e.g. Girls und Panzer.

So getting more anime would require me to either look specifically for shows I don't know anything about but that other people do, or to commit to very mainstream stuff for a lot of the time. The first one isn't practical. The second one isn't acceptable to me.

That said, if there's a particular series that anyone want to see more of, I'm willing to go search for a few dozen images from it, or you can give me some and I'll deal with it.

Dupes isn't a solvable problem except by software. So @user1306322 would need to add some dupe checking. That's doable but not exactly trivial.

The other problem is the sheer amount of time required to do it. Even once I was going pretty fast, it still took dozens of hours to get all the pics I did. I don't know if anyone else can make that sort of time commitment.

Of course, you don't need 20k pics like me, a few thousand would be enough if enough other people joined in, but it's still a nontrivial amount of time just setting everything up for the bot. And if you mess up, we could end with hundreds of potentially bad images in the bot's memory.

Also, it's harder to impose any sort of quality control if it's completely free-reign.

Though it effectively is now, but no one else has bothered to add much of anything.

@LoganM it might be a little bit difficult to figure out, but in the end it would take up t*n time to check for each new potential duplicate image, where t is the time needed to check just one, and n is the total number of stored images

which means it would steadily get slower and slower over time, unless there is some sort of dictionary algo implemented, so as not to compare to each file, but to its metadata about its similarity

and even that could be further optimized to dictionarize that metadata too

actually if at least these two optimizations are in place, it would probably take a few billion images for the gradual slowdown to become noticeable :p
