will the final number be 7? Perhaps
@mixedmath It's looking that way ...
I remember thinking in past elections that I was surprised at the number of late entrants. But I think it's late even for that
@mixedmath Well, then there was 2012... very last minute candidate! :p
16:46
I definitely remember that
@mixedmath I am a bit surprised at the (lower than I expected) number of candidates. And the lack of interaction either in comments below the the announcements, or those below the answers to the questionnaire.

I think two people picked at random could do just as good as anyone that's already a mod maybe even better.
Almost surely not, @Roddy.
@RoddyMacPhee Downvoting this because I disagree XD
@RoddyMacPhee You're so pessimistic, go be happy with what you have, else I might catch onto your pessimism.
18:36
there are 3344991 pairings among the people at or above 2000. 36 pairs of which are from the current mods on this stack exchange. what are the odds a random pair doesn't do better than a pair of the mods already in power ?
@RoddyMacPhee What are the odds that probability doesn't apply when humans specifically select events?
I am out of the loop. Do we have a moderator stepping down? Who is it? Or is the work load becoming too much on those currently in position?
in my experience @SimplyBeautifulArt that would be not very likely. BTW your odds of being in the pair that win the positions is 3/7 as there are currently 21 pairs and 6 pairings you could be in.
@John11 I can't find it, but it was basically because the site has grown a lot since the last election.
@RoddyMacPhee :-/
Also, did I ever mention the cute pandas I found?
@John11 One mod is stepping down. Another position has been added for the reason @SimplyBeautifulArt discusses
18:50
@amWhy Oh, I didn't realize a mod was stepping down
Which mod?

Q: Math Stack Exchange swag ideas

JinRecently we started the process of designing and ordering swag for our SE communities top users (high rep users on the first 2 pages of all time). You can see some examples of the items and designs at GIS.se, Gaming.se or Programmers.se. So far we've only done T-shirts and Stickers for customiz...

Is the cute panda still for sale? — Simply Beautiful Art 17 hours ago
@SimplyBeautifulArt They got good swag...
@amWhy xD I'm just in for the panda
@SimplyBeautifulArt $:\subset$
Or $: \supset$
you comment about being in it only for the panda has been reported.
@RoddyMacPhee Lol, I guess it is off topic :P
OTOH, it serves to point out that the link is probably broken or no longer available.
no just shows you seem to only care about the small things.
@RoddyMacPhee What's wrong with light comments on meta? And do you really think that comment doesn't serve to point out the broken link?
19:21
@RoddyMacPhee You are the one who seems to only care about the small things. And the thing is, you do those small things yourself.
19:32
and I shouldn't care got it... I'm slowing deleting most of my answers anyways but this is all off topic.
Next election let's see if we can get this question up:
"You notice a user is steadily deleting a his/her posts. What do you do?"
Good day sir @Schrodinger
@SimplyBeautifulArt Well, we realise, that must be Roddy.
@SchrodingersCat Well, I've seen such cases occur in the past
@amWhy probably knows who I'm talking about
19:49
@amWhy One question.. dont know if this is off-topic here.. if a nominated candidate's questionnaire and bio on the election page receive only a few comments, does it mean that no one is paying attention to him/her? Simply ignoring that person?
@SimplyBeautifulArt Actually its midnight here... :)
@SchrodingersCat Oh, well get some sleep then!
@SchrodingersCat Haha, no. Maybe they just don't have much to say or don't know you that well. Also note that there was a giant wave near the beginning, so later posts may receive less attention.
@SimplyBeautifulArt I am used to staying up late.. ;)
@SchrodingersCat Not necessarily. The same could happen if most users are satisfied with your answers, announcement.
@SchrodingersCat =P
@SchrodingersCat That's hilarious! And humor is always an asset!
@RoddyMacPhee Then why'd you bring it up? You bring it up; you're inviting folks to respond. You keep it up, and you're egging folks on to respond. If you don't like the response, then naturally, you might want to self-reflect.
19:56
@amWhy Since I am only 1 election old here, has such kind of a response been received by a candidate before?
@amWhy At least they should give a "hell yeah" then...
@SchrodingersCat lol
@SchrodingersCat yes
@SchrodingersCat yes
Maybe some users feel like they should read through all the old comments before posting new ones
Well thats an interesting behaviour.. @SimplyBeautifulArt
@SchrodingersCat I do it :P
Hence it may also take me much longer to get going with it, but yeah whatevers :P
20:00
No its not bad... even I do that... sometimes...
AFAIK There are five viable candidates, and everyone of them has risen to the occasion.
The fact is .... all voters should have their fair share of conversing with the candidates.
@SchrodingersCat Indeed, .... honestly, I believe most users don't care about the election, nor care to learn more, though who knows how many participate in the election this week.
Shame
But I guess its just like meta
@SimplyBeautifulArt yup
@SimplyBeautifulArt yup
20:06
@amWhy Still Its highly suspicious that 90% of the active users of such a huge community have only 10 questions for all candidates... at least 20 of the users should have proper separate questions... like amWhy, Jens, John Ma
lol
well, I'll be back. Get to sleep :P @SchrodingersCat
Good night then ...
@SchrodingersCat My last reply to you was more about this election; Keep up the faith! G'night
