Q: Brace yourself, US presidential election is coming up!

Philipp This post was originally made for the 2016 presidential election. But it is just as relevant for any subsequent one. Now in the second half of 2024 We are in an US election season again, so I am again setting it as "featured" to remind us all of our duties during such times. US presidential ele...

As we get closer to the election, it might be worth unfreezing the US Politics room (previously 2020 US Election discussion) and making it a dedicated 2024 US Election discussion room; give me a ping if anyone feels it's necessary. I think we're fine in here for now given there's not a lot of other discussion going on.

@CDJB It would be nice if activity picks up enough for other things and shifting US talk to another rooms becomes something worth considering
@CDJB Since you brought this up, I just wanted to check whether you saw the suggestion for a separate room for news in the context of this: Was the Agora chat room always a stream of videos and articles that one user finds personally interesting, or is this a more recent characteristic?

To be honest I would be happy if conversation in here picked up and it was decided to move the links to another channel. In fact when the person who made that thread decided to join here the links stopped and conversation started. However they eventually left when they didn't like the way the conversation was going as well as the suggestions to fix the issues that they didn't like.

It would be nice if there was more chat in here though I think this room would just be frozen if it wasn't for the links

Arqade chat seems like it has normal activity so it makes sense for the split. If this chat room started getting used more I could see a split as well

@MartinSleziak In the end they joined the channel and wanted people to make changes to how they posted some things such as links to stop the default behavior from happening. One of these was for how people posted video links to prevent previews from showing. When it was suggested that they make a request on meta stack exchange to change the behavior of those links they didn't like that and instead kept insisting that users should change.

@JoeW By "they" you probably mean the author of the post on meta. I was mainly concentrating on your suggestions quoted above.
Yes, I do mean the author, and I was just giving an example of how their interaction with the channel went after they joined and wanting to push their way onto everyone else.
