impulse bought uni 2 anyways and just playing the tutorials because i'm bored
this game really does have a nice feel to it
crazy how the first baby combo it teaches jump cancels with is 5a 5b 2c 5c j.a
that is such a melty blood-ass combo
so refreshing when my main airdashers have been gg
(and then it's a real surprise that you can't block or throw in the air)
there's a [8]2 input?????
oh that full circle shortcut is so nice
hail kamone
why does fpan always want to make up new words for holding buttons lmao
at least increase is less ludicrous than blowback edge
it's definitely neat how the passing link system just... doesn
t have a gatling hierarchy. at all
who needs reverse beat penalty when you can just apply a blanket uniqueness constraint
oh so there is air blocking, just most stuff is air unblockable
lmao
i guess probably most projectiles and such are air blockable since that's where it really gets ludicrous
oooh wait assault is so nice for streamlining air to ground spacing what
okay so the meter mechanics are really complicated but i'm getting the broad strokes design intent
grd is spicy and dynamic but you get to control how much it influences your gameplan, while exs is a more conventional meter that just so happens to also have heat but doesn't have depleting max mode
wait all of the colors have their own names as well as numbers that's so sick
oh i'm so glad eltnum's gun is the half moon version
i love that move
AND THAT'S HER INFINITE WORTH EXS i'm kinda disappointed she just doesn't have the vertical beam (as stupid as that move is to land) but ahahahahaha
One of these days, I'm gonna come in here and post about some new game I've been playing, talking about it in great detail using loads of funny words... and then it's going to turn out that I made the whole thing up and there is no such game. :P
@DLosc it's hard enough to convince me that under night terms are real and i have the game :P
uhhhh
jump cancel: canceling the recovery of a move on hit by jumping
melty blood: other game by the same developers
gg: guilty gear
[8]2: holding upwards then inputting down
kamone: lead developer and kind of public face of fpan (as a vtuber for some reason)
fpan: french bread
passing link: normals canceling into other normals
gatling: a common system for normals canceling into other normals where each normal only has a limited set of other normals it can cancel into (typically only "heavier" ones)
reverse beat: a mechanic in melty blood where you can violate the gatling constraint at the cost of a damage penalty for the rest of the combo
assault: a universal mechanic that gives you this kind of low jump that gets shorter the closer you are to your opponent so the trajectory ends the same with respect to them instead of you (but the distance also has an upper bound so you can't just use it to nullify heavy zoning)
grd: the really funny meter that determines vorpal buffs and you spend on force functions, builds by doing basically anything other than back away (like tension except without tension balance)
exs: the normal meter that builds by hitting and being hit that you spend on supers
heat: a mechanic in melty blood that gives you enhanced capabilities in exchange for draining meter, similar to veil off in under night
half moon: moons in melty blood are basically three different versions of the same character, with both differing universal mechanics and idiosyncratic moveset differences--in sion's case, her half moon gun goes in this wacky ricochet pattern instead of angled shallowly down in crescent moon or straight ahead in full moon
infinite worth exs: an invincible cinematic super you can do with full exs meter if you're under 30% health
I don't own any games that lend themselves to this kind of monologue :(
where there's clearly some semantic meaning, but nobody without the game can divine what it is
I can't even talk about Baba Is You because the main idea of Baba Is You is literally "Sokoban, but the properties of the tiles are also themselves tiles and you can move them to change how the game behaves"
and then the whole game builds from that
the most obscure BIY terminology I have is the Prison Trick
(mentioning the existence of the endgame is technically a spoiler? but it doesn't mean anything unless you actually play the game and get the spoiler ending)
oh, there's also cyclic conversions
a phrase like BABA IS KEKE IS BABA will make Baba switch between Keke and Baba once per turn
