@Pavel I don't think Super Metroid has aged all that well (mostly the controls). It's a great and groundbreaking game but I don't find it as enjoyable as many modern MVs.
Explains exactly what I think is so amazing about Hollow Knight's world design (using the most prominent example, but there's a lot more like that in the game). Also contains mid-game spoilers for the game though.
@DJMcMayhem I think the only thing I dislike about it is having to switch to the joystick. My least favourite mechanic you haven't seen yet :D ... but also not my favourite mechanic so there's that ;)
Btw, if you liked that one fourth-wall break you mentioned early on, I highly recommend Chapter 5's B-side just for the dialogue :D
@El'endiaStarman I don't think I'm a fan of super hard platformers in general (although it's not quite as hard as super meat boy yet), but the art and music is absolutely gorgeous, and incredibly relaxing. The gameplay/controls are super tight and well refined, I really like the characters and story, and it's brings out the completionist in me. I just "beat" the game, and I've probably seen less than half of it
@DJMcMayhem Actually, that's a common pattern I've noticed. I'm not a completionist, but every now and then I play game that's me go "I have to see absolutely everything this game has" and I obsess over it and play it like a completionist. Terraria, hollow knight, dead cells, and a lot of Mario games do that to me
Although I'm pretty sure I'll never 112% Hollow Knight lol
Celeste is really nailing that feeling for me right now
@DJMcMayhem I liked the first one more. The second one had better mechanics and all, but the story and theme of the first one in my mind totally makes up for it and I enjoy it so much more.
Especially if you're not going for all the berries
@Pavel Even getting the berries is easier than star coins in a way. To get a star coin you have to get it and then survive the whole level. Strawberries are instantly counted once you get to safety, which I appreciate so much
And also the reason Yoshi's Island ended up with that amazing crayon style. It was supposed to be prerendered 2.5D too but then DKC came out and they didn't want it to look the same.
