chet is ded
I finished Guacamelee 2 yesterday, and it's what every sequel wants to be. Basically more of the same, but everything a bit more polished and varied, and with a good amount of references to the first part.
That probably makes it my top 3 metroidvania (after Hollow Knight and Environmental Station Alpha).

@MartinEnder Your top 3 metroidvanias don't include any Castlevania? Or you're just not counting them? hahahahahah

1:06 PM
@J.Sallé I haven't played any Castlevanias but from the gameplay I've seen, I don't think they'd be up there.

I see. I might be biased because it's one of the series I've played the most.
But damn, both Super Castlevania IV and Symphony of the Night are up there for me. SC4 has one of the best soundtracks in video games, ever.

I mean I did play Super Metroid and it's an amazing game for its time, but that doesn't make it one of the best MVs today.
@J.Sallé I might check out some gameplay for SC4 then.

I'm not that much into the Metroid series mostly because I played SC4 instead hahahah

@J.Sallé I agree. SimCity 4 has a great soundtrack. ;-)

@AdmBorkBork HERESY

That reminds me, I still need to purchase the Hollow Knight soundtrack.
I like how they're called soundtracks and not musictracks, given that they aren't full of sound effects.

Speaking of soundtracks, what video game soundtracks have people intentionally purchased? For myself, I've purchased The Sims, Halo 3, Shelter, and The Last of Us soundtracks. I also extracted music from Minecraft and Terraria, and did a Kickstarter for Tomb Raider orchestral soundtrack.

I've pulled Age of Empires and Age of Mythology music from game files and bought some of Halo: Reach's tracks as well, IIRC.

I'm really looking forward to the Tomb Raider piece. Done by the original composer, full orchestra, recorded and produced at Abbey Road ... I think it's going to be something pretty special.

I never buy soundtracks (or music in general)
that said, I do listen to tons of game soundtracks, so I'm full of suggestions :P
Star Citizen has a great soundtrack. Never played the game, but it's got some great music
Back when Grooveshark was a thing, I was one of the admins of a channel called Master of Soundtrack. One of my favorite things we would do is play name that tune, where we would play soundtracks that had their metadata stripped out.
So I got to know a lot of soundtracks that way

Never bought any soundtracks, but I'll always recommend Super Castlevania IV's. Also, off the top of my head: Shovel Knight, Bomberman Hero and Oddworld (both Abe's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath)

4:14 PM
@AdmBorkBork Same as Nathan. I listen to video game music all the time, but I practically never purchase music.
Favorite video game music: Hollow Knight, Undertale, Determination (metal covers of Undertale), Borderlands 2 and DLC, Sanctum 2, and Celeste

Never purchase music, wow.
When averaged out, I probably purchase a CD/week.

I do purchase CDs occasionally, but that's just for me to listen to in the car.

I listen to podcasts in the car half of the time. The other half I sit in silence :)

@NathanMerrill Any you'd recommend?

Related: OCRemix is awesome.

Hello Internet, Planet Money, and Reply All are my favorites
I have 3 others on my list: Cortex (which is more boring than Hello Internet, but still has CGPGrey), RadioLab (which often covers more trope topics than Reply All), and the memory palace (which I always wish was a bit longer)

5:09 PM
@DJMcMayhem I stopped purchasing CDs when I realized all my favourite bands were on spotify, so I just pay for the premium subscription for that. Having a bluetooth-enabled car radio is also a good thing.

@AdmBorkBork s/soundtrack/soundtracks/

@MartinEnder Oh, there are multiple?

@AdmBorkBork I would say anything from Supergiant but I don't remember whether they just came with the games or whether I had to buy them separately.
@AdmBorkBork yeah, they released a second batch with the latest content update. It's called Gods & Nightmares or something like that.

Interesting.

I think only one of the new bosses has a new soundtrack, but that one is absolutely amazing.
