> The ad, showcasing people’s reactions to the Impossible Whopper in New York City, includes a man saying “Damn, that’s good.” One Million Moms quickly launched a campaign to edit or pull the commercial from air altogether.

In a press release, One Million Moms said that it “finds this highly inappropriate. When responding to the taste test, he didn’t have to curse. Or if, in fact, it was a real and unscripted interview in which the man was not an actor, then Burger King could have simply chosen to edit the profanity out of the commercial.”
if it just me or is this group just being lazy to what they should be doing, raising their children but, i don't know, telling them what is a bad word when they discover it?
> The Burger King petition currently has 9,029 signatures.
wait, how is an organization called One Million Moms not already have One Million signatures already?

@Memor-X I assume it's supposed to be a "silent majority" kind of thing, where they're claiming to speak on behalf of a much larger group

it's that kind of argument that pisses me off since my mum uses it too. "there's no point for us to try and tackle climate change because the US and China emit more and they'll still screw us over" doesn't mean we can't take the moral high ground
@murgatroid99 yeh i had a feeling that was the case

@TimStone no
it's Cheeto Dust
> Hacking attempts began in early November against the company on whose board former Vice President Joe Biden’s son sat, The Times reported

...

The hackers successfully secured login credentials from some employees and successfully infiltrated one of the company’s servers, according to Area 1, the California-based security company that first caught wind of the hack.
when did Rudy Giuliani finish gathering his "evidence"?

4:09 AM
@Memor-X what the Duck?

4:43 AM
@Unionhawk so if you’re a libertarian socialist, does that mean you’re anti taxes?

@Memor-X they're just moms, not parents. Parenting is not a requirement to be a mom, although it's certainly recommended
they're too busy being triggered by mild stuff online to be parenting, it's for the greater good /s

4 hours later…
8:23 AM
@Memor-X Hang on, Damn is a curse? Fuck
Btw, is One Million Moms also opposed to Trump, since he has done far worse things than use a mildly profane word?

2 hours later…
10:30 AM
@Nzall well the article calls them a conservative group so i expect a double standard

Trudeau says Canada wasn’t warned of Soleimani strike, says crash victims would be alive if not for U.S.-Iran tensions theglobeandmail.com/world/…

1:29 PM
@Wipqozn Who is to say but... yeah this is fucked
Been reading about that crash like nonstop in the news...

1:42 PM
@GnomeSlice It's a pretty clear causal link: US assassinating Soleimani leads to heightened military readiness in Iran leads to Iran mistakenly shooting down a civilian passenger plane.

> Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) told reporters on Monday that the Senate Republican caucus doesn't have the votes to dismiss the articles of impeachment against President Trump, who endorsed an "outright dismissal" over the weekend.

wow this is the last debate

@Stormblessed Can she cook or is she going to starve?

@Stormblessed the last primary debate period? Or just the last one before the actual primaries start?

@Yuuki ok...what?
@BradC before the primaries start
I feel like @Yuuki is trying to reference a song from 40 years before I was born or something...?

yep, looks like there are at least 3 more scheduled in February

3:07 PM
> wow this is the last deb ate

@Yuuki (chuckles quietly)
not quite a full lol

@Stormblessed so, the short answer is no (todo: improve the anchors on the faq), the long answer is that society needs to have a foundation of shared resources and I don't necessarily know that taxes as exist currently really is that, per se, it's complicated
bread santa says it better: the means of production being the collective work of humanity, the product should be the collective property of the race. All belongs to all. All things are for all men, since all men have need of them, etc

@Unionhawk where's the libertarian part though?

that got stolen by right wingers in the 1960s

@Unionhawk bread santa?

3:14 PM
probably a book

In this case conquest of bread
we're for the abolition of all forms of heiarchy, not, gestures vaguely at liberty hangout's post about monarchy being cool

@BradC I thought her plan was merely to reduce student loan debt

@Unionhawk Apparently not. Here's the full plan on her site

3:26 PM
> Up to $50,000 in debt for 95% of student loan borrowers
(I genuinely don't know what that 95% means)

@Unionhawk maybe there's a threshold for how much debt you need to have to have it removed?

I think it hints that 5% may not be eligible for debt cancellation, for some unstated reason?

It'd be a lot cheaper to not pay 4 million people 100 dollars each

@TimStone Hey look it's the Naziest person in the White House

3:29 PM
Graduate loans vs undergraduate or something?

but still pay the others

@Stormblessed It's actually usually a lot cheaper to do everyone than spend any time trying to figure out who qualifies
and it's a more effective use of funds too
since you're spending money on people, not on a staffer who's job is to figure out who qualifies

@Unionhawk Very normal and sane

the state doing its job, protecting some investment firm by keeping their house vacant while regular people are forced onto the streets

thank u for ur concern, @GOPLeader

YOU SAW NOTHING

Gosh darn it @Unionhawk, don't make me censor you!
I always knew you were trouble the moment you stopped being a boat

👁

4:24 PM
but I was going to make a witty retort to the tweet by @TimStone, but then I realized I read it wrong.
but then again the joke still applies
"I'm so excited for the democrats to sabotage themselves again, and give The World 4 more years of Trump."

This is a good article that explains why I think there's no way in hell that the "Bernie said a woman couldn't be elected president" story was a deliberate strategy from the Warren campaign:
> What has been exposed here are some of the complicated, painful, difficult dynamics that have kept women from the presidency for the country’s entire history. Among those dynamics is the chilling fact that talking in any kind of honest way about marginalization becomes a trap for the marginalized.
> To acknowledge the realities of running as a woman — the double standards, the higher bars [...] — is a trap. You will be understood as trying to leverage the bleak unfairness of it all to your benefit: as if you are the one to enter the arena with the advantage of getting to cry “Sexism!” and not with the multiple disadvantages of … sexism.

I mean my theory is that a few staffers heard it secondhand, then leaked it like "oh man this is huge this will be so good" and now it's a mess

That's certainly possible

I certainly hope nobody got in a room and got paid to come up with this as a strategy
Because that's just a waste of campaign funds at that point

its also possible it may hurt both campaigns.
I do appreciate this point as well:
> While Bernie and Warren scuffle over who said what and how during a friendly pre-primary conversation about progressive ideals and goals, Biden is out here saying everything they’re struggling with in far more clueless and obtuse ways. “I think there’s a lot of sexism in the way they went after Hillary,” Biden said just a couple of weeks ago, in public. “I think it was unfair. An awful lot of it. Well, that’s not gonna happen with me.”

@Unionhawk My theory is that an extreme centrist was involved. There's no basis for this it just seems like a real McKinsey-level move

7:18 PM
So... Biden's argument is that he's not a woman so he isn't vulnerable to sexist attacks??

@TimStone I mean probably but I don't know where in particular hillary 2016 staff lives this year

That's both true, and a horrible horrible argument

other than "probably all over the place"
and "yeah they definitely still have a job somehow"
that's not entirely fair because I'm sure some of them were quietly like "this algorithm stuff feels stupid but I don't want to tell Robby Mook he's wrong and lose my job"

@TimStone Not Murcowski?

Dunno if everyone was asked or he just found the first four he could
Joe Manchin comes swinging in

2 hours later…
Yikes :(

10:10 PM
@BradC funny how Trump says he's not worried and wants a trail and yet his loyalists want to dismiss the charges and not even have a trial. either they are going off on his own or, more likely, he's pushing them

@Memor-X yeah, no consistency in the message
My best guess is that they're positioning themselves to appear to have supported a fair process
when in fact they're going to vote down at the end, no matter what happens
"well, we gave it a good listen, and I just don't think it rose to the level of removal"
its all about optics at this point. Fold your hands and act concerned. Furrow your brow a bit
The only possible problem with that is that Trump himself has objected strongly to even a low-key "well, he may not have done the right thing here, but..."
since he continues to insist he's done nothing wrong
but that's their problem, not mine :)

damn. it didn't have a chance
@TimStone Sooo... would "get rid of X" have meant something different if he hadn't written "(nicely)"?
is that a... routine request for Parnas and his associates so that he'd need to distinguish?

There's a section of text messages where it suggests someone wanted to uhhhhh assassinate Yovanovitch, or something?
Like maybe it was just false bravado but they apparently had people stalking her

"Wow. Can't believe Trump hasn't fired this bitch"
yeah, they're like... totally tailing her, like a high value enemy target in a spy movie or something. Jesus

@TimStone *Rudy*

"They are willing to help if we/you would like a price. Guess you can do anything in the Ukraine with money.... what I was told"
Like that's just crazy! There's no good way to interpret that
@BradC With the papertrail here it's like they wrote the whole script for the future dramatization of these events, no writers necessary. The only thing missing is someone willing to demean themselves enough by playing Rudy

11:07 PM
Anyway Trump had Jay Sekukow, the guy representing him during the impeachment, tell John Dowd it was totally cool and good for him to represent Parnas and Fruman, which is a weird thing to affirm about people you supposedly don't know!
Just some Crime Guys doing crimes in criminal ways

@TimStone I know it's the company, but I kinda want to imagine the POTUS being really mad at fruits
Because it's not terribly far fetched
