1:59 AM
woke up this morning to Trump's press conference (don't know why my mum is watching that, she knows it's crap), someone asked if Trump will allow mail by vote for the election, Trump rants how if he did allow it people will cheat the system
good to see the people elected a president who think them all crooks
but we know he's not saying what he and other GOP members have already said, more people being able to vote more easily will see the GOP not get elected

3:19 AM
I suspect other building trade unions may follow
(ironworkers, ibew, etc)
most construction work is currently considered "essential"

3:48 AM
@Memor-X is that even on the TV in Australia?

4:38 AM
@Stormblessed Foxtel has the Fox News Channel which i assume is the same as that's in the States
also have CNN, NBC, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, NHK and RT News

5:30 AM
@Memor-X huh interesting
Fox must be because the Fox people own a lot (most?) of the news media in Australia
It’s such garbage I’d think they’d come up with a slightly better conservative channel

9 hours later…

1 hour later…
3:18 PM
> Milwaukee election officials just announced the city will have just five polling locations for Tuesday's election instead of the 180 they typically do amid a massive poll worker shortage.

Up to 50,000 MKE voters are expected to vote, which means 10,000 could show up at each site
Hey joe remember what you said about a convention of 10k being different from in person voting
lol

3:43 PM
Amazing
By practicing social distancing the voting line will only be checks notes 11.4 miles long

I'm upgrading this from "negligence" to "recklessness"
and honestly we're considering "malice"

2 hours later…
5:47 PM
Love to buy my PPE with a big check in the McDonald's parking lot

6:21 PM
Apparently we stole a PPE shipment bound for Brazil

Brian Kemp also didn't know the virus could be spread by people not exhibiting symptoms until like three days ago and also likely stole the election to become governor

1 hour later…
7:52 PM
Yikes

2 hours later…
9:47 PM
I just started watching the press conference and he's again peddling hydroxychloroquine
that whole segment was just insane

God I hope he does take it at this point
I mean that's a dangerously insane thing to have said in the first place but I guess we can't undo that

And while Pence is terrible in general, at least he's very consistent in just hammering on the guidelines, which is the right thing to do in this case
it's not bad numbers you fucking moron, it's people dying

We had 150 new cases here today, up to 593 total infected, with 5,900 negative tests. The state has ~1 million people though, so that will definitely continue to rise :/

10:03 PM
10% positive tests is a pretty good number, if there weren't enough testing that would be higher

I haven't heard any specific mention of shortages here yet, though we were supposed to get some fast test kits and they just never showed up
So that's cool

The timing of the social distancing measures is critical, and if you're testing enough you have a much better chance of acting soon enough

I went out the other day to get medicine and the behaviour at the Walgreen's drive thru has me skeptical :|
Also the large amount of people who are inexplicably at Home Depot/Lowe's/other hardware stores

I haven't moved anywhere except to the local supermarket in a few weeks. It has been pretty civilized there, but I also go very early to avoid crowds

No one needs to do that many home projects for multiple days straight
Yeah, I've stayed largely at home too, but also I usually stay largely at home, so
We've had 14 deaths, the bulk of which were older individuals with underlying health conditions in assisted living facilities where it spread :/

10:09 PM
I was kinda confused when they started to require people to use a cart

Is it just to prevent you from getting too close to the person in front of you, or?

Didn't have the small change for them as I've been paying exclusively with NFC credit card
@TimStone One part being able to count how many people are in there, and the other part so that idiots keep the distance at the register I suspect

Ah, gotcha. Interestingly we don't really have coin carts here anywhere, that I can think of?
I remember them in Canada but you'd think it'd be a very American thing to do

The guard at the entrance had these coins you can keep on your keychain, so they thought of people like me that never use carts otherwise ;-)

Hahah, well that's good at least!

10:13 PM
Their only purpose is to ensure that people don't leave the carts anywhere in the parking lot

@TimStone There's a very, very narrow interpretation of this that is correct, but really, this was strongly suspected from the start

@MadScientist It's a good system, American shopping parking lots are cart anarchy

There's a modelling study that attributed 0.9 out of the 2.0 R0 they calculated to presymptomatic transmission. They also only put 0.1 on asymptomatic transmission, but those are generally confused by the press and politicians
That one is very new

Urghhhhhhh

10:24 PM
@MadScientist I go very late for the same reason.

@Wipqozn there's some stuff that is simply not there anymore very late, and I was suprised how empty it is very early

@MadScientist I haven't had any stock issue since the first week or two this started.

@Wipqozn It's mostly just stuff like bread, everything else except toilet paper and flour seems to be well available
