I think we have a weird situation with tech companies where we want them to police their platforms and ban certain things, but I haven't seen an explicit set of clear cross platform rules for what should be banned

And I think the result of this is that these tech companies become de-facto unelected unrepresentative lawmakers

These rules aren't literally laws, but with how big a part these platforms play in our lives they have an impact of similar magnitude

@puzzlepiece87 i agree that having children is the #1 thing you can do to expand your carbon footprint, but mandated population control is extremely fraught and historically has been used directly on oppressed people to further oppress them. The one child policy in china was a clusterfuck that had no scientific or demographic data to back it up when it was proposed, let alone implemented.

@GodEmperorDune Yes, and also, I'm also somewhat skeptical of the lasting absolute worth of anything outside of my Christian lens, so it's like, if you go to the natural conclusion of that viewpoint (which is not mine), humanity is close to extinction or dramatically diminished in 100 years, which is certainly more sustainable, but sustainable for what? To me, sustainability is not an absolute good - it's more something you do to prevent unnecessary human and animal suffering.

at the same time, i agree with her stance that if you don't want to have biological children and want to adopt, excellent, more power to you. And american society in particular is kind of weird about children in that we expect people to have them, shame/pity those that can't or don't, and also shame/pity those that have too many, and also make it difficult for people who are raising the "expected number" of them

@GodEmperorDune Yes agreed about American society and children. Mrs. Puzzle also has a hangup, she doesn't want to adopt if we can't have children. She says she'll have bonding problems.

It's great to know yourself and avoid your weaknesses and put yourself in position to succeed, so that's good. At the same time, that's a clear hangup in my opinion.
