not every child constantly is looking at their phone, not all of them will hear the push notif's sound, also mobile OSes in general are a fucking mess and like to crash and lose notifs and stuff, especially on budget models

also batteries are bad and children really seem to like watching youtube videos or playing games, which are rather bad on battery

combine that with live gps tracking and you'll have worried parents (and maybe even worried cops) for no reason other than running out of battery

@Wipqozn Thanks! I missed this crucial last line: "If people are separated from their phones, however, they can no longer be effectively tracked." My impression was that if kids didn't respond to the notification on their phones, the parents would receive their current location/location history from the microchipped child.

This only further confirms for me that there is no unsolved problem here. This is just "Find my Phone" with helicopter notifications. You don't even need permissions (granted by lack of notification response) for Find My Phone, you can just do it whenever. And texting your kid is a thing that exists. This whole thing is dumb and doesn't deserve an article.
