Apparently the Clermont County library system won't stock R rated movies which starts reasonable then a board person used brokeback mountain as his key example which is telling lol
(they were also convinced that we wouldn't be there which, guys, you really think we won't show up to a library closure threat in the area)

@Ash doesn't help when the west splits yuri between shoujo ai = "all ages" and yuri = hentai/porn. so to some everything here is porn despite the fact Seven Seas doesn't release h manga (though some of those series does have more adult stuff like one of those titles has one chapter were 2 girls have sex with one another for the first time but the actual "sex" like one page)

@Unionhawk i thought brokeback mountain was PG-13

@GodEmperorDune I'm just going by what I've heard, they also complied with complaints about lgbt book displays in the past

dam, wanted to link to a news article or tweet on this but in light of Coles removing punnets of Strawberries (some places for $3.90) from shelves because of the whole thing with people finding needles in them, they have started to stock punnets of already cut strawberries for twice the price at $7.50

This is the letter, posted on Facebook, from a woman who knew Kavanaugh, Judge and Blasey Ford and claims that the attack did happen, that "many of us heard about it in school," and that it was talked about for days afterward. The FBI should interview her and others.

2:45 PM
Hm, yeah, if that turns out to be credible it raises the question of how they found out? Ford reportedly told no one, right? So either one of the men responsible ratted on themselves or someone else at the party heard it happen and didn't intervene?
.@ProPublica compiled data on the latest cancer drugs approved by @US_FDA and asked: - Who's most at-risk to get the cancers being treated? - Who's getting represented in the clinical trials for these drugs? @Memor-X facepalm

The infographic is a little misleading in that "largest group represented" is kind of a weird data point but the article actually gets into the proportional disparity

While I don't accept this as a carte blanche excuse, it's probably true due to discrimination elsewhere that makes participation more costly for PoC

If everyone who registered to vote in Texas actually voted, Democrats would sweep the state.
But Texas has been solidly red after Nixon and the Southern Strategy.

@TimStone i'm surprised that california's turnout is so bad given how easy it is to vote in the state
maybe just a scaling thing
also terrible UX on that wapo page for not allowing typing into the state picker
i'm not scrolling down all the way to texas

@GodEmperorDune I would guess that there is a correlation between the population political bias and turnout.
If your state/district leans hard in one direction, your vote matters a lot less because the outcome is almost guaranteed
I mean, voting in the presidential general election in CA is pretty much a complete waste of time because we're so far away from being a swing state

9:37 PM
It's pretty impressive how long of a wait time Texans have on account of none of them voting

@murgatroid99 Very good point.

@TimStone I personally have never had wait times, but I live in a relatively upper-class, majority-white neighborhood.
And one that predominantly votes Republican.
One of the few in Houston. Most of the other districts go Democratic.

Yeah, I live in a reasonably affluent area too, and also Delaware, so I have to wait about 0 minutes
Helps that I can go in the middle of the day as well

Same for me.
relatively upper class, majority white neighborhood
can vote right away at local city hall
city is very small area
Due to St. Louis suburbs being extremely fragmented due to white supremacist history (and present)

I don't think I've had significant wait times the few times I've voted here. I don't actually know what the demographics are where I live, but my rent implies that it's pretty affluent.

Alibaba is no longer bringing its promised 1 million jobs to the US, saying the promise was based on assumption the US and China would have "rational trade relations"
It was kind of hand-wavy about what they were going to do anyway but uh now they don't have to

@TimStone That was blatantly obvious given that pretty much every big corp in China is basically required to have relations with the central gov't or else they're going to have problems.
Everyone should've seen the writing on the wall when Trump announced tariffs on Chinese goods.
