From people I know with current school age small humans, you don't really get a lot of time to talk to the teacher one on one at these things, you usually have to set up a separate meeting for that

There's a big presentation where they talk to all the parents and then maybe go see the classroom your kid is in as a group and then go home.

The Pledge of Allegiance is so weird in retrospect, but it didn't really mean anything to me when I had to say it. We had to say the words, but there was no real expectation that we would do anything with the semantic content of the pledge.
