@Sycorax I think it has to do with data analysts having the job of delivering bad news. We often have to lower people's expectations of what can be accomplished with a dataset or concluded from an analysis, which tends to put us in the villain role in research teams.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who got into statistics because when I heard of complications that were being swept under the rug in intro stats courses, I perked my ears up instead of hoping for it all to go away.
