If you don´t want to argue any of the content I posted her, but seek technicalities why I am a bad person and should go away, just say so or put your -1. I really like the Idea of an IPS.SE an I put considerable effort in those posts to make it better - and I make room for the possibility that I am wrong. If you don´t do that on your side, I see no grounds for discussion! — Daniel 49 secs ago

@Daniel I think you're missing the concept of "burden of proof". You think the rules used throughout many SE sites hurts this site, and my failure to prove that this isn't so makes the enforcement here arbitrary? That's not how discussion works. — Beofett 54 secs ago

It is important to clarify: Having a crush on someone usually means you feel very attracted and would like to be intimate with him. - You are not acting on these feelings for various reasons, but they are definitely more than just stating someone is attractive. - Furthermore it can imply: "If I had met him before you, maybe he would be my boyfriend now and not you", which can put stress on most relationships. — Falco 19 secs ago

We are stricter with the application of the policy here than on other exchanges because the nature of the site attracts a large volume of emotionally charged comments. Instead of trying to have a complicated and nuanced policy about what exactly is and isn't allowed in a comment, leaving lots of room for people to cry that the policy is being applied unfairly, it's easier all around to have one clear policy about what is and isn't allowed in a comment. — sphennings 1 min ago

@Daniel I know that wasn't directed at me, but rather than rejecting the notion that strict enforcement of the comment rules has any negative effects on the site, I'd instead argue that strict enforcement helps mitigate other problems that would otherwise cause far more harm than would be avoided by being more permissive of comments. I believe we have a widespread set of problems on this site directly related to the prevalence of comments. We may make a few people happier by being more tolerant of comments, but I believe we'd lose far more. — Beofett 1 min ago

@IceC I think that, in pretty much any situation where somebody offers you their phone number, there's a fairly strong suggestion that they'd also like to know yours, whether it's "Hey, call me so we can arrange to go on a date [actually, I could call you]" or "Hey, call me if my house is on fire [and I'll call you if yours is!]" — David Richerby 59 secs ago

"Often times, partners just want to talk about the hardships they face, and don't want to hear suggestions how to solve them." Why would you ever want to date anyone like this? That's not OK. "Here all my problems, but don't you dare implicate me as being responsible, and don't even think about offering solutions or reasonable steps I can take to fix my situation!" — Alexander 42 secs ago

I honestly don't see how this directly answers the question, which is about one-on-one comforting. Public situations (bathrooms) aren't relevant. Third-person pronouns aren't really used in a 1:1 conversation (and the OP has already established the pronouns, no need to repeat that). And... this is chock-full of binary-only phrasing ("If your partner is a woman"), which does not really apply to a genderfluid person. The sources cited are similarly about binary trans people. So overall, this is advice for the wrong situation - not fundamentally bad advice, just out of place. — Cascabel 10 secs ago

One thing I would add/question, is why? Why are you concerned? What emergency happened in your past, or your close friends/relatives that causes you to do this (unusual?) thing? If you can answer that for yourself, then you can let your new neighbors know as well, as long as it is not sensitive. My family's house burnt down and no one new how to alert us (ok that's out there), or our house was burgled and no one could call us, here's my cell phone number incase you see a white van out front... — CGCampbell 16 secs ago

@IceC I'm not sure your assumptions are correct. Exchanging phone numbers with new neighbors is pretty common in the US, at least in my experience. It's not weird at all, as long as we're talking about a house you own, not a rented apartment. — sgroves 1 min ago

@sgroves it might vary by location... However, in most of the places I have lived growing up I never even knew our neighbors' names most of the time. I know other people have mentioned that it is uncommon for them too... but this country is very diverse so there could be multiple reasons for the discrepancies.. — IceC 47 secs ago

I believe in being totally honest. That's why every time I see someone who is ugly, I walk up to them and say, "you know, you're really ugly". And every time I see someone make a mistake, I immediately run over and say, "wow, you just made a mistake. You're probably feeling really stupid right now and if you're not, you should be.". No, I don't. There are some things that are true but that don't need to be said. — Jay 1 min ago

I think, at least in the western world, the connections between neighbours are weakening, and less and less people will share phone numbers with their neighbours. If you think it would be too “friendly”, try perhaps actually building a relationship with your neighbours. If you see them outside and they seem willing, talk to them, strike up a conversation. When relationships build, usually connecting through phone numbers is a pretty normal step, and it dosent really seem all that awkward. TL:DR — let it happen naturally. — Kieran Moynihan 1 min ago

Who sets up and maintains this list? It can easily turn into a maintain war. For example, "homophobe." It is many times used as a pejorative rather than it's real meaning. Such words would not only be a hotbed for debate on inclusion on the list, but would limit it's use when speaking medically on that rare occasion its literal meaning is needed. — Physics-Compute 1 min ago
