o/
@avazula long time no see!
@Mithical oh wow I had forgotten that notification sound
It's true!
donk
Although it doesn't exactly feel like this because of me seeing your avatar in Discord every time I login in the morning
funny how the brain works
wdym we haven't talked in forever? I saw her this morning!
10:14
also I'm incredibly blessed you're still using that drawing
I got better since, I should try to make an improved version
why would I not
@avazula :eyes: I haven't seen your works lately, would you be willing to share?
@Mithical I have taken a turn the last couple years, been focusing on needlecrafts - although there should be some drawings from Inktober on my website
let me check
is it ok to send external links in here? I forgot
yeah
cool
I haven't done much since 2022 as you can see
how have you been?
@avazula I'm sensing a bit of an osseous theme :P I'm not very well-versed in visual arts, so I'm afraid I can't give more specific commentary than "it looks great", but they do look well-practiced
@avazula I have been
10:22
@Mithical thank you for your kind words. Yeah I developed a specific interest in skeletons during covid. It's been really fun to draw
@Mithical I understand. These are weird times. I hope you get to feel better soon
thank you. I actually doing okay, relatively speaking, it's just been... a lot
I have been enjoying university though
Ohhh that's great to hear!
What did you end up studying if you don't mind me asking?
English Literature & Communications dual major
it's the end of the first semester of the first year now, and I'm still waiting for grades on most things, but I did discover I got 100 in at least one of my exams :) (with a total grade of 99 for that course)
@Mithical woo! You rule!
10:30
are you going for a bachelor?
that's the plan
things could change, but at the moment the plan is to finish in three years
That's nice
Are you studying remotely or you got the chance to attend in person?
I went back to college myself (going for an undergraduate in public health) but I'm doing this remote
which is pretty much the only thing I could with a full time job - evening classes aren't much of a thing where I live
all in person, which means I'm also renting an apartment nearby - remote studying isn't really a thing here as far as I'm aware outside of the Open University
@avazula nice - what kind of position are you hoping to get once you finish? or is it more for personal fulfillment and you don't plan to switch jobs?
I couldn't say, though I also struggled to find a remote uni - ended up with a tuition-free, American one - university of the People
tuition-free is definitely nice
10:38
@Mithical it's more of a hobby thing I'd say - something between wanting to improve my understanding of my customer base (I'm in obstetrics now) and some kind of a personal revenge on being prevented from studying medicine after high school
I'm not paying anywhere near what American colleges / universities charge, but not nothing either
@avazula I think I missed that story
@Mithical yeah, even with tuition-free admission the classes can get quite expensive (from a EU POV at least haha)
oh that was unclear of me sorry - I'm still in IT
but now I'm working on pregnancy monitoring
ah, I see
but what was that bit about being prevented from studying medicine?
oh!
nothing very out of the ordinary, just being the eldest sibling and being pushed into engineering by my relatives
I assume this is the equivalent of the 20th century tradition of the first child becoming a priest in my tech-obsessed family haha
I've grown a bit bitter about it over the years because my siblings got to do whatever they wanted to do and I never dared changing careers
so going back to school and studying human health was my absolution somehow lol
interesting
everyone in my family has chosen fairly distinct career paths, I don't think anyone was really pushed in one direction or another career-wise
10:58
@Mithical that's awesome
it brings diversity too
so is the chat mostly dead now? I see @Tink regularly pinging for freeze prevention but it seems that most of my favourited rooms are abandoned :(
unfortunately, chat participation has dropped significantly
activity on SE overall has plummeted in the past couple years
that's very sad
I had a full-on nostalgic moment last month as I was in London and accidentally ended up having the last meal of my trip in the pub where we had our SE mods meetup back in 2020
I had forgotten its name but my memories (and Google Maps activity) didn't lie
11:15
@avazula I'm just marking things read/handled. Not for freeze prevention :)
fair enough :D

Q: Strategies for Discussing Complex Topics When Time is Limited

contactoIn our fast-paced world, finding time for in-depth discussions on complex subjects can be challenging. I'm exploring methods to facilitate meaningful conversations efficiently. One approach I'm considering involves using technology to simulate dialogues, allowing individuals to 'converse' with co...
