I've stopped the doomscrolling/watching. I'm limiting myself to the morning and evening news bulletins, mostly. Though it's not exactly working, as news filters in everywhere outside of those two things too XD
that's been my main focus... wondering if the guy will test NATO with a limited release, for example an SLBM on Kiev
actually, considering belarus has changed the constitution to remove any restrictions on nukes in its territory, they could just drive a truck up to the border and launch from there
Meh. F politicians and their displays of power. Things like this... they make me feel like a hermit crab that has outgrown its shell :P I need a bigger rock to stay under, until something happens that makes me need an even bigger rock :P
It's not like my opinions are going to stop anyone, or my thoughts and prayers will save any.
@JourneymanGeek the fig leaf of "war of liberation" already got negated by a full scale invasion of the entire country (not just the donbass region and the capital), and plenty of civilian casualties
@Tinkeringbell that reminds me of that TV show I need to start watching, "only murders in the building" (yes, literally about three people that will only solve murders in their own building) :D
@Tinkeringbell well, it depends on how close you live to a major target I suppose - basically any significant military targets and large population centers
@JourneymanGeek I would expect so too, but with putin you never know - as one analyst said, he may not use all his toys, but if he puts them on the table he's crazy enough to use them

@JourneymanGeek this looked pretty funny, if it was meant as a very crude form of IFF... nothing stopping the Ukrainians from taking a spraycan and applying these to their vehicles :rolleyes:
@JourneymanGeek btw, John Oliver's Last Week Tonight is a pretty damned good show, picks up one subject and with great hilarity gives you an overview of the topic... Very much worth watching
@JourneymanGeek just a theory at this point, they're probably expecting to link up with russian forces from different regions and want to prevent flak, considering both sides drive very similar vehicles
another theory was that it would help russian traffic controllers (similarly to the Normandy invasions in WW2) help direct regiments to the right zones
there were regular Zs, Zs with circles around them, squares etc
Another theory I read was it would let them easily work out their forces from the ukranians...
only the Ukranians read the same playbook (as part of the USSR) + trained with the west (who've been planning to deal with a soviet invasion for years)
hence the "considering both sides drive very similar vehicles"
@JourneymanGeek yep, and the russians were expecting to be welcomed with open arms, even though they're basically facing mass mobilisation, crazy former presidents running around with rifles and oh, everyone mass producing molotov cocktails
it might seem a bit futile against armour, but they can really slow things down - this is one of the things that helped the Finns withstand those same russians during the Winter War

That question really is kind of over the top. It reminds me a bit of dealing with my ex-wife. I would get raked over the coals over things that hadn't actually happened. It was "interesting".
@MiG Yeah. Let's just say that being alone is infinitely better than being with the wrong person.
@MiG Just mean that sometimes I'll run into something like some fudge sauce that I bought and tucked away in a kitchen cabinet and it's a big surprise, even though I bought it a day ago :)
@DaveG agreed, got some personal experience there... We tried again after a couple of years but she'd gone worse :(
Current gf is fortunately pretty amazing, we've only been together for a little over two years, but thanks to covid we've passed the living together test with flying colours
@MiG The thought of running into my ex again makes my blood run cold. Fortunately I ended up meeting and eventually marrying a really really wonderful woman so it all worked out in the end.
@MiG I knew we were doing well when we did a 12 hour drive together, which normally would have me crazy after about 2 hours, and it was all just fine.
@DaveG Still got my own house, but I spend most of my time working remotely from her place, and we've recently booked our first long holiday weekend abroad... Looking forward to that :)
Looking at houses too, although that's mostly dependent on her finding a job closer to mine (I'm kinda tied to one place for the next couple of years)
@MiG fortunately we were very close together, we actually snowshoed one time from my neighborhood to her apartment building. So no hard decisions about where to live.
