Q: Co-Worker Stealing Sales

Spotted_FlamingoI work in a small office where each of has our own set of clients that we have established relationships with over the years. I've recently moved desks and am now sitting almost side by side with another sales person who takes pride in having the highest commissions each month. For the past few w...

Q: How do you handle being not welcomed in a group?

AnonymousTThe saying "Can I come with?" or "Can I join in" have been the bane of everyone I talk to these days. Every time when there is a group of people doing something that I'm interested in I go for it, but to the respect of the group I do it sparingly so I'm not seen as overly intrusive. The problem i...

Q: As a cis-gendered male, is using a ( he / they ) pronouns supportive or hurtful to the gender nonconforming community?

CuriousCernunnosI identify as a cis-gendered male, but prefer gender neutral, or gender agnostic, pronouns and want to declare that. (my email signature is what first comes to mind, but on other mediums and in person as well) I don't want my gender identity to define me. It seems to me, that normalizing gender-...

Morning
@ExtrovertedMainMan Wha?
If you're worried that you might behave as politely as you can and there would still be someone having a bad day out there who'd take offense, maybe especially to your politeness,
I just forgot how I was going to finish that sentence.
But anyway you can turn into an ad for Twix
It's a repost of one I closed last night (though that one was asking 'is is appropriate').
This one still seems just as much off-topic.
I mean, heck, people can take offense to politeness.
Are you treating me like a wallflower because you ASSUME I'm fragile and blah blah blah
I'm gonna go watch a few episodes of Simpsons
Enjoy :)
I've closed the question (again).
06:10
@ExtrovertedMainMan This one is...really broad?
06:50
Morning!
@Tinkeringbell you need the size of it (most common 120mm), for the brand, Noctua is pretty good :)
How are ya?
07:03
@CaldeiraG Size, and there was something with connectors. :P I needed a 3-pin.
I'm okay, getting a bit hot here. But that'll be better this afternoon when there's no sun on my windows anymore.
And you?
@Tinkeringbell ah i see :p
@Tinkeringbell i'm good yea
07:52
I've been waiting for some emails back since monday and nothing arrived so far :/
08:06
:(
08:44
uh, interpersonalskills.stackexchange.com redirects me to interpersonal.stackexchange.com

A: Better late than too late: Could a single word substitution in our name, be at least considered?

CatijaHere's what we'll be rolling out later this week: We will update your site name to "Matter Modeling Stack Exchange". It seems pretty unanimous here that this is a better fit for your site. To support this, we will change the site URL to mattermodeling.stackexchange.com - we can't use either matte...

@CaldeiraG ips.stackexchange should too :)
yep it does

@Tinkeringbell I never realized that the ips.stackexchange url worked x) I guess, TIL (today I learned) :p
@Ael Well, technically it didn't until last night :P
Ael
Ael
@Tinkeringbell Oh, that what I though. That's so cool!!
Bug report of the day "works not"
Ooookay.

x)
Oh, it works! \o
Yay, magic link :D
Saves a lot of characters when writing ;)

09:23
Most definitively! Plus, you have less chance of making an ortographic mistake when writing "ips" than when writing "interpersonalskills"
I've always used interpersonal.stackexchange myself ;) And since that's in the browser history, just hitting int works :P
Magic link I knew already

Anyone here is good with gitlab-ci?

@Tinkeringbell And it saves 10 bytes of my internet. :P
Well, every 10 bytes saves up some!

AAAGH. I bought some t-shirts online, the shop said they'd ship in 2-3 weeks. Now I got an e-mail saying they're not sure if they can ship... Which would mean wasting more time on picking out other shirts :(

12:55
@Ael sorry hon didn't see your message earlier! Do you still need help?
Ael
Ael
@avazula Most definitively! (even though it's more "cosmetic issue than real blocking one): devops.stackexchange.com/questions/11901/…
Imma have a look
devops.se is much less active than I wish it were :(
Ael
Ael
Yeah, that's definitively true
13:00
@avazula I feel the same way about devops.<my company>
Ael
Ael
I'm kind of thankful that Software Quality Assurance & Testing is more active (well, there isn't that much activity be the number of unanswer questions is very low)
@Rainbacon Can you explain to me what devops is? :P
@Tinkeringbell I can't tell if you are being serious or not, so I'm going to pretend like you are. Devops is a set of practices related to how we go from "developer writing code" to "Applications running for users to use"
I wasn't :P It was a reference to it basically not happening at all in my company too ;)
But thanks! :D
ah, I thought the 😋 might have been a giveaway, but I couldn't be sure

Ael
13:09
@Rainbacon At my company it's: "you see those stuff devs don't want to do? Well, that's what devops do" :p
No worries :)
today's lunch, copying data from one sql server to another, 20million rows and counting
XD
need to do this on 3 more
that's only data for 2 months apparently
I've been involved in a developer guild at work focused on getting people to run integration tests on their feature branches before merging. We built out a solution to add IT into the build pipeline so they automatically run on your branch and block you from merging, that has since been pared down to writing a shell script that you can choose to run or not that will run the tests on our CI server, but has no effect on your ability to merge
Ael
Ael
@Rainbacon Well, unfortunately, I can't say I'm surprise. Though I do believe that keeping it in the pipeline but putting an "allow-failure:true" would have been better. At least a reviewer would have been able to see that the tests had fail before approuving (or not) the merge request
@CaldeiraG lunch?! At 15:19 PM?
13:20
@Tinkeringbell i've been doing since since 11AM but yeah, cup of tea it is XD
Or a cheesecake perhaps?
:P
@Ael I'm gonna write an answer when I have the time but this could help you. Let me know if it does :)
Transactions logs are screaming for space
k, 1 done
3 more XD
Ael

13:43
@avazula That sounds promising. I am currently working on something else, so I won't have time to test it today. But in any case, thanks :)
@Ael you're welcome <3
Ael
Ael
@avazula <3
@ava Question: Dp you know if putting the "allow_failure: false" on my deploy job prevents me from launching a manual job (like "rollback") from the same pipeline if the deploy fails? I was under the impression that manual job can't be launch if something fails before
14:18
@Ael I do not know for sure. However, I struggle to see why would your rollback job be manual? I'd have put up to be automatically triggered upon failure of the manual job
14:56
@Tinkeringbell the cup of tea is almost done \o/
@CaldeiraG Took you long enough! I have 4 minutes left I guess, before dinner is served.
@Tinkeringbell good :)
Though I do not yet smell any fries.
Oh, and dad's already home so we might eat late...
Poor schedule :(
Yep, dinner is officially late.
15:07
sad
Cultural differences: dinner will be in 3 hours for me
And I think it's still early haha
@avazula What time would you consider correct for dinner?
@avazula Yep, seems about right :P
Spent a week in Paris as a high-school student, with a host/hostess. They ate 'early' because of us, and it would still be 8/9 PM and we'd be ravenous!
@Rainbacon mmh ... I know that you should eat pretty early if you want to have a healthy digestion ... but with my Spanish roots I've been taught to eat lunch at 2-3PM and have dinner at 10PM :p
After a day or two I just ate two hot meals a day: 1 at McDonalds at lunch, one at their place :P
15:18
Note that lunch was still at pretty Dutch times, because at that time we'd be with our Dutch teachers ;)
12PM?
So, lunch was somewhere between 12/1 PM, and then there was whole afternoons of walking doing stuff, and then indeed dinner only at 8..
So many snacks were eaten XD
at what time do you have breakfast?
We eat dinner at 6pm, I don't know how you all stand to wait so late
@Rainbacon I hardly ever feel hungry ... my mom doesn't either (I suspect she's autistic too)
15:23
@avazula When in Paris? We used to have breakfast at around 8AM, be picked up/dropped off at the bus by 9 ;)
Lately, I haven't been eating breakfast because I'm a horrible breakfast eater anyways, and it's easy to wait until lunch (which is still at 12)
By the way, guys ... today is my first anniversary as a IPS mod! Thank you for the amazing community we're building together. Here's to the future of our stack! :)

Wow, I can't believe it's already been a year
me neither ... time flies!
@avazula We're building a what
Awkwardly steps out of the way
ew, extroverts! I'm out
15:39
Hey that's not fair
I might be an arsehole but I'm at best only WEAKLY qualified as an extrovert!
