@Ælis autism.org.uk/about/what-is/pda.aspx This is what I meant x) Actually I learned about it from one of the instagram accounts you shared like 2 weeks ago. ^^
Good morning everyone :)

Good Afternoon!
07:15
Morning everyone!
I have a question for you people ...
I've been having a hard time with sensory processing lately (noises are overwhelming, as well as smells and my body is in pain because of soreness and headaches) and I have troubles with being touched. I'm struggling to explain that to my partner because I avoid contact and I don't want them to think it's their fault. How would you talk to them about that?
Any reason why it wouldn't work the way you just explained to us?
Yes. The overload makes it hard for me to talk without shutting down. I need simple sentences that don't incriminate them
I also don't want to apologize because it's not my fault but I'm an over-apologizer :(
JAD
JAD
@avazula would writing it down work instead of talking?
@JAD I think so, yeah.
I will do that.
I think my question would be more like "have you ever been in the same situation"?
I feel guilty about that.
But I can't help it
JAD
JAD
07:30
not me personally
oh
okay
JAD
JAD
my noise tolerance starts to bother me only when there's multiple discussions going on in the same room or something
what do you do in those cases? Isolate yourself?
JAD
JAD
depends a bit. If I'm part of one of the conversations, trying to move would help. Otherwise, put on headphones and music. At parties or something I would look for a quieter place
It's mostly that I can't follow the conversation that I want to follow, because I can't filter out the other stuff as easily. It's not that it personally bothers me as much
okay
Thanks for sharing :)

no problem
I'd say that the dysthymia/winter depression is more affecting my day-to-day life than the autism
@avazula :/ Writing things down works for me. I started doing it recently and sending people messages instead of a face to face conversation and it did wonder. I was able to say things I couldn't formulate before. It's really helping
@avazula Also, for the headaches, could it be because you need rest and sleep? I know that, every time I'm tired, my head hurt like hell (but I can't always fall asleep, so that's not nice >< )
Have you considered asking your doctor for some days off? It might help if the reason is indeed tiredness
(And in any case, it probably can't hurt ^^)
(Well, except for the loss of money)
07:54
@Ælis I'm fine. It happens sometimes. I sleep a lot but it doesn't go away, that's all. I need to be patient :)
@JAD I had to look dysthymia up. That doesn't sound nice :(
Morning!
JAD
JAD
eh, I'm pretty much used to it. It's mostly when paired with the short days of winter that it really bothers me
08:42
Morning
I was super worried because I got to work late because I got stuck in traffic, but just about everyone got in late. Guess traffic was bad this morning.
08:56
yay, atleast you weren't the only one who got late :D
JAD
JAD
09:23
hmm, I think traffic and public transport delays are pretty much just part of risk of doing business for the company
you can't expect people to teleport
@Belle One of my coworker was later yesterday because some idiot decided to do a snatch and run away using the subway rail (so the subways weren't able to run anymore). Thankfully, the thief got scared in the dark and turn around pretty quickly ^^

Q: Appium finding an element that need to be scrolled into view

BelovedFoolI am testing a mobile application using Appium + Selenium + Java. I have a page who contains several elements with the following ids: field_1 field_2 field_3 bouton_1 When I open the page. The element "field_1" and "field_2" are visible but the other two need to be scrolled into view. Sin...

10:42
@Ælis don't you have an equivalent of "find" or "contains" in Selenium that checks if the element is present in the DOM but doesn't care whether it's currently visible on the screen?
@avazula I though I had. But it doesn't seem so :/
11:14
oh :(
Accurate representation of me trying to solve my appium problem:
And the bot isn't even here to give me a cat :'(
Aww, thanks Tink!
you're welcome :)
(Another lunch break well spent :P)
Ahah :p

@kscherrer Oh, that artistic!

good day everyone btw o/
Good day to you too :)
Hello!
I'm still raging about discriminated unions
Now it's time for a break from raging. See ya in 30 minutes.
@Belle Do you want to rant here? I'll happily listen to you (and send you cat picture if needed :p )
(Though I have to warn you, I won't be here between 1pm and 2pm but I'll make sure to read everything that will be written in between :) )
JAD

11:48
I wonder what's wrong with inheritance instead of those unions in C#
programmer jokes ftw
12:23
@JAD Creeping complexity. Inheritance can solve the same issues generally, but your subclass becomes dependent on your superclass, which creates tight coupling and makes your code resistant to change.
Perhaps my programming style is a little more functional than what C# was designed for
JAD
JAD
I wonder though, an union also is tightly coupled with itself
kinda by definition
Because it has a split between data and behaviour, the coupling isn't much of an issue, unlike with inheritance.
JAD
JAD
hmm, I notice I don't really have an opinion on this. Maybe also because I don't know what problem you're trying to solve. So nevermind
Psst @kscherrer ... seems like your latest answer isn't backed up :o
12:52
@avazula sure it is, I made an sql dump before posting it... thx I will try to edit
:)
huh ... I just talked Mr Ava in buying a Fairphone to replace his old failing phone.
13:05
yay, we're true hippies
@avazula Congrats! \o/ :p
13:18
@avazula May I ask why a fairphone? :p
@avazula I'm afraid I won't be able to back it up without making up some imaginary story. And I didn't find online resources that advise using this approach either. What should I do?
I guess I'll keep on looking for online resources some more
@CaldeiraG It's ethical, you can repair it almost entirely, and it's ecofriendly. It's the only one in the world :D
@kscherrer No similar situation either, that you could make a connection with? :/
@avazula Nothing against it but the price is definitely not fair :p
@kscherrer Perhaps you've been in a different type of situation where you had to publicly point out someone's boundaries?
@avazula I was thinking of parties.. but the situation has do many different aspects
also I cannot remember actually seeing this being pulled off.. therefore I would have to lie about me being a partynoodle
13:22
@avazula It's ecofriendly but you can repair most phones if you have the skills to do it, they don't have a modular design like the Fairphone but it's achievable :D
@avazula Mr ava has the only fairphone in the world? nice :)
@CaldeiraG but it's designed to live more than 3 years like all the others are. And it's definitely much easier to repair it... you don't have to be geeky to do it :)
@CaldeiraG There's a difference between "can" and "can" here.
@kscherrer If you have no back up, it's better to delete. Plus, you can always edit and undelete if you think of a backup afterward
maybe one of you has a personal experience with this? otherwise, yeah i'll delete
13:25
@kscherrer if you're sure you can't think of any relatable situation then I'll put a notice that backup is needed. We'll see whether some other people have done this and have backup they can include
if they don't then the community decides what to do with it
@avazula cool thx
uw :D
I used to fix the lights on my 2001 car all the time. On the other hand, I take my 2014 car to the garage to change the lights, because it's more complicated. I assume the Fairphone is like my 2001 car, a lot less complex.
@Belle exactly!
I'd be scared if I had to change my lights all the time though :p
Not all the time :P every time time they needed replacing, which was like once every year or maybe two years :P
(My 2001 Ford Ka was also a rustbucket only being held together by glue, but that's another story)
13:29
YAY @IPSCommentBot YOU'RE HERE! <3
@IPSCommentBot cat!
@Belle Haha, you were quicker than me :p
@IPSCommentBot More cats please!
Aww, so much cuteness!
13:31
@avazula The problem is that the hardware will very soon be very outdated and as a mid-tier CPU it will become slower than an flagship CPU from 2018
Lewis is a derp
@Belle Ow, you are cute too
@Belle You definitely can repair your phone (dead-end if it's a iPhone) but it's not modular and easy
@CaldeiraG Yes you can. Just like I can replace the lights on my car myself. But manufacturers don't make it easy to do so.
13:32
@CaldeiraG Oh I know that. I'm originally an electronics engineer :p let me worry about outdating
To add to avazula, my current phone is still strong after 2 years of use and I'm not switching anytime soon
@Belle and it's freaking expensive on top of being hard. I couldn't change the screen on my ASUS zen phone 2 because they wouldn't even sell that part on retail
@Belle That's what makes the Fairphone different
@CaldeiraG the most important thing for me is that it's ethically sourced.
@avazula i respect your wishes :)
but fair priced i would say a big no
13:34
I mean sure being able to easily fix it if needed is nice. But what I care most about is that they don't hurt the people who extract rare earths and metals needed for building electronics
@CaldeiraG I'd say its actually a very fair price
Fair price in this case does not mean that the consumer pays a price that is fair compared to the price of comparable devices, but that the workers get paid a fair price for their work creating the phone.
still much cheaper than many top selling phones. Yes its not the cheapest on the market, far from it, but you need to keep in mind that fair trading is costlier. If you then account for being able to repair single parts instead of buying a new one when something is broken, you will have much much lower cost-per-timeframe than most other phones
@kscherrer I don't agree with you but I'm not the desired consumer of Fairphone anyways, i'm all for a bang for the buck
@Ælis He was laying like that yesterday and meowing at me until I rubbed his belly
13:40
I actually dont have a Fairphone myself (t'was too expensive for me when I last changed my phone) and I understand your point of view @Caldeira, I just shared mine too :p
@CaldeiraG may I ask what phone you have? I'm not starting a discussion I'm just curious.
@kscherrer The problem i see on the phone is the SoC(2018) that is clearly inferior to a 835(2017)
@avazula I also understand yours :)
@kscherrer Sure, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5
[Entering testing mode](Blasting Bon Jovi's best of it is)
@CaldeiraG I'm still on a Samsung galaxy S6 edge, is the fairphone better than mine in regards to hardware?
I don't understand much about hardware, so a yes or no will suffice :DD
and don't feel pressured to research now for me, that was unfair of me to ask.
@kscherrer Yes but by a very small margin. Exynos are also more battery hungry unlike most SD
13:48
Anyone here with a tablet that could offer me some insights? I want to get one for assisting me with my studies for when I don't want to use my computer. It want to do stuff like check my agenda and email and watch lectures on it. Is bol.com/nl/p/samsung-galaxy-tab-a-10-1-32gb-zwart/… going to be good enough for that? I hope it will last me a while and I can watch some Netflix on it too.
@CaldeiraG nice link, thank you!
@Belle That will be more than enough for that use case. I own a HUAWEI MediaPad T5 with similar specs at the same price as the one you just linked
And i can do pretty much anything with it, even gaming
14:03
Can you also use photoshop on it? That's something else I'd like to do on the go.
Photoshop on a tablet? I'd have gone for Procreate ... didn't even know PSD existed on mobile things xD
Well, that's my last use case for it :P
@Belle Photoshop is exclusive to iPads I believe
So, video watching/study, showing sheet music (my old phone does that fine, it's just small) and photoshop. I like photoshop, because I'm used to it on the computer.
And I already have a sub for it. Perhaps I should go for the iPad instead.
@Belle there exist some alternative programs. I myself was an avid photoshop user, but then when I could not use a shared license anymore I switched to alternatives. They are not that bad. It needs some getting used to, I would say.
14:30
I started looking at iPads. Then at iPad Airs. Then at iPad Pros. Now I'm looking at €2000+ Surface Pros. I started with a €199 tablet ._.

stuffs expensive
@Belle welcome to the world of technology
that a 1549€ phone is acceptable
or just a thousand

Oh, my colleague had a baby daughter. Do you think this would be an appropriate gift, considering she's born in the year of the rat? ravelry.com/patterns/library/rattle-mouse
@Belle Aww that's super cute! I'm not sure I'd give something like that to a newborn though. Almost everything in their general vicinity will end up in their mouth for extended periods of time
@scohe001 it's made for that? ;) I think it's cool, @Belle, as long as you use washable stuffing :)
Welp. Then my concern is addressed lol I guess I imagined yarn fraying after being chewed/sucked like that
I guess eventually it might... But it's cotton, which can handle a lot
.... I don't think it'll get worse than any other stuffed animal thing ;)
