My main problem is that I do two things on my computer that require a particular type of thing: - Photo editing, which requires good colours, so I "need" an IPS (lol) monitor - Gaming, which requires a fast monitor (1 ms latency and 144 hz)
I currently have a 1 ms latency, 75 hz, bad colours monitor.
Now an IPS monitor has good colours, but is slow. A gaming monitor is fast, but doesn't have good colours. I could get a IPS gaming monitor, but they cost a fortune.
Alternatively, I could replace my one screen with two new ones and get a good colours slow one and a bad colours fast one and move my current screen to the bedroom, so I don't even need to get out of bed to watch Netflix.
I ordered a gaming screen and speakers. Found one with a nice deal on. A sinterklaas gift/early christmas gift for myself :) I'll get a nice screen for photo-editing later.
@RoryAlsop Oh, I hate shops and shopping too. The only except is online stuff and shopping in quiet place (like the Christmas market, early in the morning, when everything is still quiet)
Honestly, shopping for clothes is my worst nightmare. Except for t-shirt becauce I have found the perfect online place to buy them ^^
I like shopping at Christmas markets when I'm tipsy. If I'm sober, I get overwhelmed fast, but if I've drunk like one glass of gluhwein, I start loving all the lights and the music and forget about all the people.
@Belle I do love the lights and the music too. But I just need to be far away enough from the music so that it's not overwhelming (I still hate it when there are too many people though)

I previously lived in the centre of a small city of about 50.000 inhabitants. That was too crowded for me. Having a beach-side apartment was amazing, but all the tourists and the drunks at night, not so much.
I now live just on the edge of a small town with 10.000 inhabitants, next to a small lake and a "forest" and lots of fields. I get all kinds of birds in my garden now, not just gulls stealing food.
I grew up in a tiny island community of about 17000 folks, and then spent some years in an even smaller island community of about 1500. All cities are too big for me. Edinburgh is half a million, but grows to over double that during the Festival (which attracts 4 million people over the whole month of August)
@Belle My apartment is "well situated" for that. I don't get noisy people and scooters. Just noisy train, but they stop when it's the middle of the night, plus they aren't so disturbing
There was one thing I was never able to get used to. Mist horns. They. Are. LOUD. Just having a nice sleep and suddenly at 4 am: TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.

@Tinkeringbell I hate it too. I was homeless until I was almost 4 so money was always a bit stressful for me. Plus I'm worried they'll reclaim interests because I didn't pay (but I couldn't! Aah!)
@avazula Yeah, that sounds stressful... I keep trying to get things like insurance and stuff to be taken out of my account the day after I get my pay, but for some reason they keep moving it back to several days later... which is annoying because I keep having to think 'oh, yeah, can't put this in savings, because there's stuff that still needs paying' :/
I've had trouble with that twice now, where I just put stuff in savings and then they called 'we can't get the money, your bank says there's not enough in your account..'
@avazula It's okay, it's just a matter of getting a small bit out of savings again, and having them get that (It's not like there's nothing in the savings account or I'm short of money... just really bad at keeping track of transactions :P)
Basically, I get my pay each month... and a day or two/three later I automatically assume that whatever is left in my account is what's left, because hey, I asked the insurance company to automatically take the mony a day after I get it, right?
So I get some cash, and all that's left goes to a savings account :P
I wasn't planning on taking 30 years to get rid of the mortgage... I set the loan for 20 years, and if it's going to increase again, I'm going to make sure I pay it off before those 20 years are up!

@avazula They never took money from my salary (I, too, tried to make them reevaluate my rate). It's bugging me a lot because I don't know how much I will have to pay for the taxes ><
My dad's offered me a loan, but its just so much cheaper than what I'd pay in the open market or getting what I could afford (rather than what they will sell me...)
@JourneymanGeek darn, okay, that's a reasonable price I guess, yes. I suspect it'll cost me ~250k... and I shall hurry, prices grew 10% bigger in the last three years
@avazula My mother kind of did that with my little sister. It worked nicely even if my mother as a very bad English accent. So, be ready for your children to make fun of your accent too (as we do with my mother) :p
Same here... the apartment I'm buying now has to be newly built. When we first saw it, they were selling them for 165k, when they decided to build extras, the extra apartments went for 189.

Are you sure your neighbour is aware of the policy ? At my parents (in Germany) it's the volume that counts, i.e. you pay for a bin of a certain size and it cannot overflow. There it is customary among neighbours that once you have put your bin out for collection anyone is free to use up the remaining space should there be any. — Marianne0131 min ago
