I want to form a friendship with another person of the opposite gender, who has also reached out to me on a number of occasions. I am not interested in dating.
What are the dos and don'ts of building friendships for friendship's sake?
How can I communicate my issues with a potential date's pushy behavior?
It was not rude or abusive, and about how men need unambiguous signals from women.
@Rainbacon You seem to have made your mind already. If you go for another interview now, I believe you'll be upset should you have to do the interview with the person who cancelled without any warning. Your discomfort is likely to show through body language.
@Rain if your wife thinks you shouldn't dismiss another interview with this company, would it be possible to reassure her by showing her you have interviews with other companies upcoming?
that way she won't have to worry about you not finding a job that suits your needs and expectations better
@lllomh ooh, welcome then! Nah, it's been ages since I last played ;) I'm very interested in games but curiously, I'm not eager to play. I love watching speed runnings though.
@avazula I'm still learning English, and now my English is too bad. Now I'm talking to you with a machine to translate my language. Maybe my sentences are not smooth. lol (:
@avazula "We've had this new policy for more than a year and it has brought many good answers with citations, because restricting the usage of comments invited people to express their feelings in a answer instead." from here. I'm curious, do we have data for that? Or is it just something we observe with no data (like when someone posts a comment and then move it into an answer)
You know me and my limited SEDE skills... I can't prove it with numbers (and I'm not sure somebody can). However, people who've been around before and after adopting the policy surely can testify the quality of answers has slightly but significantly improved
@avazula Yeah, I don't see how we could prove that with data either. I was, however, surprised to hear that the quality of answers has improved thanks to this policy. It's nice to know :)
Yesterday wasn't such a good day though ;D Somebody horned me and I couldn't know why before I figured out that I took a one way street in the wrong direction. Fortunately there was no one except me and I could turn around quite easily. I also forgot my keys after switching purses and I got to spend 3 hours outside without anything to do ... Meh.
@Ælis haha! Time to spend some time alone :p
@Ælis well, before that people would answer without providing any backup and would use answers in comments. The new comment policy, alongside with the citations expectations, significantly improved answers (and drastically reduced the number of comments under posts)
I'm sad because I made a joke couple of hours ago and no one reacted to it yet :(
@avazula Doing things you love is always nice. Too bad it's exhausting tho :/ Also, spending three hours outside with nothing to do seems awful :O It probably would have driven me crazy to think of all the stuff I wanted to do and that I could because I was stuck outside my house
@avazula Oh, were is this joke? :(
@avazula Yep, the citations expectations and the enforcing of the backup policy definitively brought a lot of improvement
Somebody said in the conversation about the upcoming wedding of our friends this weekend ("Ils vont être beaux nos tourteaux" -> "our lover friends are going to be beautiful"). But instead of tourtereaux (which means "lovers" in French), he said "tourteaux" (which is the name of a cake and also a crab species). So I asked which one of them they were, the cake or the crab, and no one answered :p
@Ælis I went to another town to get dinner, then I called my grandma for half an hour. with the hour needed for the forth and back trip I still had an hour to kill in my car, scrolling on my phone :p
@avazula That sounds nice. Waiting seems always easier to do for me when I have something to eat :p (but it doesn't sound like you eat it right away but rather waited for your SO to eat with him?)
@avazula Yeah, I know that feeling :/ I might have tried to climb into my garden if I were you, just to feel safer (it might have been a stupid thing to do, but it would have kept myself busy at least ^^)
@avazula Rain is not nice when you are stuck outside :/ I hope the spines are at least giving you blackberries or raspberry now? (Also, you can do soup with fresh nettles, it's very good and you just need to take some gloves to pick them)

@ankiiiiiii yap :p we got the Portugal Day (10 June), Restoration of the Independence (1 Dec) and Republic Implantation (5 Oct), not necessarily a independence day xd
My wife and family “parents” came back to me after a long day (commute from home to office to site, learn new things, back to office back to home) at work and commanded me to talk with my neighbor, whom I really don’t know saying stupid cave man things like “be a man”. Which I really didn’t feel...
No, we tie ourselves, and help if required. My sister lives hundreds of kms away. Cant help it. Also, were you notified again, for the @ in above inline quote?
@avazula Well, it's been more than a day since they cancelled on me and I haven't heard anything. So it doesn't much matter, but I definitely wouldn't take an interview with them if they hypothetically offered me one now
Oof, I'm doing a Udemy course and the professor is Australian. I'm currently watching the videos on mute with captions because my headphones need to charge a bit. What or whoever made the captions really struggled with the professor's accent.
It's really bad. I could mostly understand what she was saying, but only because I'm a decent way through the course and I had hear her talking about a lot of the things we were working with. But if I hadn't had that experience I'd have no idea that Sophia is actually a sphere
I live in Germany and have a friend who is being harassed by a man who is the father of her 2 year-old son. She is early 40s, he is about 50. The father lives in Macedonia and has provided no financial support either before or after the birth of their son.

Hey @El'endiaStarman, I'm starting a new project next week at work using Python (specifically a backend project that uses django). If you had to pick one thing about python that people commonly get wrong, what would you say it is?
Unlike the typed languages, Python lets you set variables to whatever. Unlike JS, Python doesn't let you do all manner of arithmetic operations between objects of different types.
Personally, I think that Python syntax and functionality tends to follow the principle of "does it make sense to do this?" and non-ambiguity.
Some decisions may be initially surprising, however.
@Rainbacon Funnily enough, JS doesn't require a semicolon after every statement (thanks to automatic semicolon insertion). It just bites people hard in a few edge cases and therefore, the recommendation is putting semicolons after everything.
the targeted yelling is a bit unrealistic. (From what I heard even Ramsey isn't like that, it's just part of the TV personality) Most of the yelling is done at inanimate objects
Or in a nonconfrontational manner to simply be heard over all of the excess noise.
@Tinkeringbell But, if you watch Gordon Ramsey you would think everything is sophisticated and creative. No matter how creative the menu though, you will be making the same ten dishes over and over for at least 4-6 months. And then you usually only change one or two items
@bruglesco Yeah. My brother worked kitchens once, just as a side job... Lots of dishwashing but also just microwaving prepared stuff :P He quit within three months
@bruglesco Yeah. :/ Worst part: this was a girl. Mom and dad always warned me for boys so I never paid enough attention to my drinks that night. It also wasn't one drink, but more like 10 with increasing amounts of alcohol, apparently
@CaldeiraG I'm sharing both the Spotify and Netflix with family members. There's apparently family type subscriptions, I pay only 3,5 euros each month for each ;)
@bruglesco It's okay. I can smile about blaming the chicken, learned something about going out and watching my drinks, and I can say I had a hangover once ;) I also learned to be angry to someone's face ;)
@bruglesco Yep! I usually don't feel sorry about it, though I sometimes think of myself as a bit of a coward when I don't immediately want to drink around new people. But I think even that caution is also valuable, so I usually just tell myself not to be crazy ;)
@bruglesco Yeah. I do drink, but know my limits pretty well :)
I find it hard to imagine not noticing alcohol. Then again, it's super bitter to me so I'd have no trouble identifying it. (Or at the very least go "hey, someone put something in my drink!".)
@El'endiaStarman Bacardi and cola... Very little Bacardi isn't very noticeable and considering I'm missing part of that night, I don't really find it that unbelievable that the last three or four were regular amounts of Bacardi. This was waaaay back when I was in University, and I had never drank any alcoholic mix things before so maybe now I would taste it because I know how it tastes... But back then, I don't think I would have
I don't often taste alcohol as bitter... If there's a lot I get the burning sensation in my throat though ;)
@bruglesco I'm not a party animal ;) most of my drinking is one or two in the weekend, just before sleep ;)
@bruglesco Never really got the hang of it. I like going out with a friend or two, but usually we just have dinner and since almost always one ends up having to drive, we all stay sober ;) if not though, we can drink and giggle a lot :D
I just tuned back in and people are talking about parties! :o Hey everyone, come to my board game and Rock Band and Smash and VR party on September 7! ;-)
