Q: Long-distance visit to mutual friend

EuchrisAdam used to live near me and our mutual friend Blake. We all became friends. Now, Adam lives 4–5 hours away. He invited Blake and me to come, and in the moment we said it was a good idea. The more I reflect on my friendship with Blake, the less interest I have. I don't want to take a long drive ...

I just started work

Thats nice.
I did too XD

A J
which means I have to work till late

6:45 AM
I don't :D

A J
good for you
I work as per UK timing.

7:00 AM
Oh, then you're still finished an hour before me! :D

Well, I learned a lot about the heat pump and mechanical ventilation today :D

@Tinkeringbell heh, like what? :)

@MiG the thermal disinfection is not needed, the weird noise is some kind of valve and annoying but unfixable, if I ever want to use the thing for cooling I need an extra buffer vessel and space to put it (so not likely to happen), I should keep track of the water pressure and add water myself if needed (and learned how to do so)
The mechanical ventilation is always on, but on a setting so low you don't generally notice unless it gets dirty/you miss with the balance of the fan. So that's where some off my sluipverbruik comes from.
I can get up to four remotes for the mechanical ventilation to have it ventilate for up to an hour on the highest setting, which means I can start screwing them to the walls in the kitchen and bathroom and no longer have 1 that gets lost because I don't want to use a button in the kitchen if I go shower XD
I got complimented on the settings I chose for schedules for hot water and heating, and for finding the setting that also takes into account living room temp and not just outside temp. But I am no longer allowed to touch the 'stooklijnen' as I made a mess of those :P

@Tinkeringbell bit surprised about this one, although thermal disinfection cycles are not required at all if the domestic hot water (so that which you come into direct contact with through kitchen or bathroom) stays above 65C. For the space heating conduits bacteriae don't matter much (unless there are so many that they clog up the place, but as it's the same water that's in circulation they hardly have enough nutrients to grow that much)
@Tinkeringbell yeah, keeping track of water pressure sounds like he's specifically referring to the space heating circuit
same thing with oldfashioned boilers and other water heaters, there's a rubber hose and a valve that you can use to bring it back to about 1.8 bar
@Tinkeringbell I'd have to look up domestic regulations, but for offices and everything else, there's a minimum ventilation refresh rate ("ventilatievoud")... off the top of my head it would be about 2-4x per hour, or replacing all of the volume in the room 2-4 times every hour
perhaps modern requirements are that this happens mechanically, because insulation has become so good hardly any natural ventilation takes place (i.e. buildings are not as leaky as, say, 50 years ago)
@Tinkeringbell that's nice :)
@Tinkeringbell well done :) stooklijnen are advanced stuff :P

6:25 PM
@MiG Yep, basically this. It also now suddenly makes sense that there's a tap in the wall of that space XD

MiG
for us the water heater's on the side of the washroom, so I actually have to disconnect the washing machine every once in a while :)

@MiG Yeah, basically this. Because it's so insulated you need the mechanical ventilation to get rid of moisture and reduce risk of mold all the time. Only time it's legit to turn it off is when the air raid sirenes go off... But since I would have to get the ladder out of the shed to get to the plug, I guess I'll just die (and make sure next year I have one of those klik aan klik uit plugs ready for the guy to install XD)
@MiG Yeah. Basically, mine has a 'night lowering', so you can say well, at night, instead of turning on at 20 degrees, turn on at 17. And this is what you can arrange with the scheduled times for hearing: then it's either 20 or 17. But I sleep with the window open so I don't want it to turn on to keep the house at 17, so I put it on -15 (so turn on at 5 degrees inside temp). That isn't economic.
I guess I'll see. My energy usage this winter was like half of what was allowed/average with that setting. If I'm still too hot at night this winter, I will just turn the entire thing off then, instead of using the stooklijn;)

Q: Is it fine to stop communicating with family members if it will affect other loved ones?

Erhardt LooftI find the behavior of some of the members of the family from my partner's side extremely immoral (views regarding women abuse, both mental and bodily abuse). There was a recent event of woman abuse in the family that was the final straw for me (after I saw how they behaved and trivialized what h...

Getting curious now tbh... this is a detail level I normally don't work with, but configuratons like these might be optimised and reduce energy demand :)

8:02 PM
@MiG Yeah. For example the hot water: I have it set to 1 active hour now, which means it'll heat up water between 2 and 3PM, when the sun is shining on the outside unit and it's the hottest part of the day. It will heat up enough water to 55 degrees that I can shower, get hot water for cleaning the kitchen after cooking and also have hot water for cleaning the next day, no trouble.
That's a smart setting, way smarter than just letting it do its thing, which would mean it would probably start heating up the hot water after my 9:30PM shower, when there's no sun and much colder air, so more energy needed
Tapwater circulation is another one: it helps if you have really long pipes. But for short distance pipes like mine, it makes almost no difference but having it on will mean the hot water cools down faster (as those pipes aren't as well insulated as the water vat itself) and there will be a pump using electricity too

nice :)
insulating the hot water pipes really helps with responsiveness btw
