Q: How are you supposed to react when emotional charged (for right reasons) people(s) make ethically inappropriate remarks?

old-monkTo describe further let's take an example, consider a person(s) V, victim of an event or witnessed injustice. It seemed quite obvious that a person(s) X is responsible who belongs to a group G. With emotion running high they rightfully condemn the act but sometimes they wrongfully accuse the whol...

Mornin
I answered your question before going to bed. I'm a bit surprised it got no vote. I'm thinking I'm answering you better than the other answer, which look a bit like a clever but nonetheless jedi trick "not the droids you're looking for"
That might be because I'm high self esteem atm :D

To be fair I'm disappointed in the amount of sources in both answers, that's why I haven't voted on either.
I did tag the question academic-research...

I found it difficult to source mine I admit
I did that hastily but I felt that I was at least doing a fair attempt to actually answer
I will try to dig for them if I have time today

Yeah, that's true. There's more answer than opinion in yours.

All sources I found about responding a frame is re-framing. Nothing about standing against the framing process itself. There seem to be evidences framing works because of cognitive bias present in most of us, which seem difficult to counter effectively with arguments and logic. I imagine this is why nowadays politician debates look completely idiotic :(
From all sources I have framing is considered natural / unavoidable.

:( ... I had classes in Dutch and those included debating, rhetoric and fallacies... I had hoped this type of rhetoric would've had it's own effecitve response that doesn't go as low as just doing the same thing...

I imagine this is still possible to question the premise of a frame, but you would need time. This is what I had in mind when saying to play dumb, to question the premise and open a real debate.
But like I think journalists often actually try this exercise. And it doesn't work so well against a very well trained politician.

@ArthurHv Funny you mention it, I listened to our prime minister yesterday and I was a bit surprised to see him answer "I can't believe you're asking me this", "this is the last straw". I remember my high-school classes saying that ad hominem statements were the least effective (and ugliest, but that's my own opinion) way to get a point across

I remember our president make in front of journalist the point that "We can't discuss equal to equal, I'm president now" which look disrespectful at first but actually make him pursue his goal to make the presidency function untouchable and above all critic
And of course, since his words are more "valuable" would also mean he gets to lead the debate by his own terms

8:45 AM
He had this wonderful tweet: "my main goal for this mandate is to reconcile the base and the summit" and someone answered him with "I'm not very enclined to reconcile with someone who refers to himself as the summit"

Clever response by the other person, in my opinion in the vein of pointing flaws in the original frame response I had in mind

@ArthurHv I think this may work, and I will try... On the other hand it might just end with the other person feeling you're the right person to soapbox at. I saw that in church, a well played dumb question could get the preacher to sermon and you had nothing more to do than tune out during bible studies.
(So, the question was taken as an interest in agreeing, instead of as a way to express disagreement/point out flaws)
I guess if it really comes to it, perhaps I should accept that people that summarize issues in one word aren't good acquaintances to have.

@Kevin: Common sense is that a huge Star Wars fan might not be happy with a 4,000 pieces Lego "Death Star" because it means weeks of work. Common sense is that a huge Star Wars + Lego fan might not be happy at all receiving a second 4,000 pieces Lego "Death Star". In the UK, a gift receipt would be absolutely normal and expected except for gifts that are consumables or that were bought with 100% agreement of giver and recipient. And even in the last case, I'll add a gift receipt just in case I got it wrong (like buying the 2007 Death Star instead of the 2015 Death Star). — gnasher729 36 secs ago

How is that first part a reply to Kevin's comment? Kevin doesn't mention common sense at all!

Q: How can I interact smoothly with a manipulative person?

user32158I have a colleague (from now on called C) that I voluntarily work with (in a non-corporate environment) because we could get some work done that could be generally beneficial, including to both of us (though to varying degrees). C is generally successful, sociable, confident, high-functioning and...

@Tinkeringbell Fertilization via cold air, is this even a thing? :o

@lila I hope not! I would never leave the house again!

:D
I made it as a doomb joke, but actually it is a thing, flowers are fertilized in a way by air, at least by proxy as wind carries the pollen (wind = cold air, because moving air feels colder than still air).
