Morning, woke up to this article

6:23 AM
Good morning :)
@CaldeiraG well well well. I dont like either the one possible result out of this nor the other

6:59 AM
@lila I understand but correct me if I'm wrong @Mithical, Pets.SE is activated on the SmokeDetector (example chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/11540?m=55683123#55683123), it just doesn't send messages to the Litter Box
so you're already benefiting from this
@Syralia :/

@CaldeiraG correct

@Mithical Hello ^^

@Syralia \o

@Ael Morning :) Did you fix your nasty bug?

Ael
@Syralia I did. It took me 3 extra hours but things are finally working :)

@Ael Yay!

@Ael TGIF!

I just asked my manager about a task they assigned to me and they answer with: "yes, I am the one who assigned this to you". Like ok, but could you answer my actual question???

@Ael Haha I can also relate. But I am way to low in the food chain at university to remind my professor that I ALREADY ASKED OR EXPLAINED SOMETHING IN MY MAIL. It always feels kind of being rude just to say: It would be nice if you could listen/read what i actually said...
Maybe they are just brain afk

Ael
@Syralia They probably are a bit, yeah. A big event is comming up this Sunday and they have worked an unhealthy amout of hours theses past days and they are probably quite stressed. So it's understandable that they didn't understood my question properly. But I can't do the task without those extra informations and it's apparently needed for said Sunday event

@Ael Hu I see. If it is that important you should maybe ask again and specify your question to give them the chance to understand it
@Ael With a diplomatic and polite way of speaking it sould work without insulting someone ^^

Ael
@Syralia I did ask again and I will ask again in the daily meeting. So don't worry, I will get my answer :)

@Ael Good, stay annoying :p

Ael
7:43 AM
Ahah x)
@Syralia As for the "diplomatic and polite way", I always go with "I don't understand, could you provide more details?". This way I am the one to blame for not understanding what they want

@Ael Thats a clever way! I am also not a fan of the sycophant way of life but some people might just need that.. A friend of mine got a really ignorant professor for his thesis who never really ready his mail nor his thesis in general; his notes about possible changes are so pointless and the way my friend has to write his mails to him is.. sacrificing :D
its hard when you depend on someone who is gonna grade you

Ael
@Syralia Ouch, this sounds like a terrible professor :/ My last manager was a bit like that. Thankfully, the current one isn't (expect when they are overwhelmed apparently, but that's understandable)
@Syralia I wholeheartly agree. I always hated knowing that one person had basically the power of life or death over my futur. It's far much better when you have several teachers with "equal" powers

He truly is. He also told him that he has only "one last try for a correction because he only offers one correction per student" like ???? This is your job?!
Hierachies at universities are loose and I have no idea if thats a good thing or not in general

Ael
@Syralia May I ask what country you and your friend are from?

@Ael I also lost my trust in teachers. When I studies I figured out that its possible here, if you fail one of your side exams (like a math exam), you can change your study field from your major topic to be a teacher, get another field and then goign to be a teacher,lol
@Ael We're both from germany

@Syralia And yeah, only one correction per student is not nice IMO :/

Q: At what point (and how) do I chase a teacher who hasn't replied to my messages despite reading them?

LouI'm studying a course remotely, and sent my teacher a message on Teams about 10 days ago now, asking a question. No response, but I can see the read receipt. Hoping to prompt a reply, I asked another unrelated question three days ago. Still no response, but this message has also been read. It's b...

I can't test my code :'( Well, I guess it should have to wait until Monday. Everyone is busy with this Sunday event coming and I am working on some non urgent stuff so...

hi
@CaldeiraG I know, yes, but I think that's fancy how it is done on IPS that it also notifies you on Awkward Silence.

@lila it's a nice to have
but everything is in Charcoal HQ anyways :p

@lila Hey lila, how are you doing today?
Someone in my company just sent a mail saying they were looking for a "tuteur de stage" (intership tutor) and I read "tueur à gage" (hitman) instead x)

I agree with @MichaelRichardson. This solution should only be temporary, and as grown up adults, the 2 should be able to at least be on the same house (even if not talking). I'm also not fond of how the phrases are turned, it seems too hypocrite, each have to understand and accept the cultural difference. — Fanie Void 36 secs ago

-1 This sounds like it's answering the reverse question of people who think they know more than they do. The OP is asking how to get people who have more knowledge than he or she does to explain and pass on that knowledge. — DaveG 36 secs ago

Q: How, as in "what way", am I expected to go about using a dating app correctly?

TheHansinatorA bit of a weird question, I know, but I feel I need this spelled out. When a person sits down and logs onto an app like Tinder, what exactly, more or less step by step, does Tinder expect them to do? For instance, what specifically do they put on their profiles, how do they decide when to swipe ...

@Ael It's okay, in October it started back on my university, I am always so happy for it but this time it will be remote for most things (lectures, etc.) except few laboratories and that's sad; at least it's better that it was from March to June because then it was all things remote. And the bug is all-time-high in Poland as well as some other countries, so they might switch back to full-remote mode and also order lockdown again.
@Ael And how are you?

@Syralia I've had professors (or PhDs) like that, it is usually not that pronounced but a few extreme exceptions were behaving like they swallowed a stick, universities have a pretty significant autonomy and I guess this + big ego results in people like these. I don't know, maybe they are great researchers, but they are the lowest quality lecturers. And I'm surprised that it's the case in Germany, I thought it's only common in post-communist states like Poland, etc.
@Syralia And their approach in lectures is not "look how easy this is", but rather "look how smart I am" ;_;
