@Belle feeling sleepy.
#LazyMonday

@Belle I'm febrile and jumping everywhere ^^ (I have been like that for a little more than a week now. It's kind of weird, I'm not us to have so much energy, even if this one is induce by stress ^^)
Also, I ask a new bunch of my coworkers to call me Ælis and not <deadname>. It's going well so far :D (I have now ask 8 coworkers. I have maybe 45 in total ^^)

Good going @Ælis :)
My fiancé went to a work party on the weekend (I was invited too but I declined and told him to have fun with his friends). When he came back he was super drunk and kept apologizing because people had flirted with him. Not because he cheated or anything, but because other people flirted with him. This guy... *v*

@Tinkeringbell Seems like I didn't see this question of yours when you posted it. I'm glad I did now. I might answer it too, even though the answers over here are already quite good. In any case, I just wanted to say that both my grandparents really love going through old pictures. It kind of is like those pictures is filling their memory gap
@Belle Haha :D

@Ælis That's nice... even though we didn't have any pictures ready as she was visiting our place ;)

@Tinkeringbell Oh right. In this case, my grandpa love seeing pictures of castle he may or may not have visited. My grandma also love things that talk about the second world war (even though that's not the happiest conversation subject ^^). So, the picture don't necessary need to be about her, but can also be about things that she has always liked

Ah, that might have been an option... there is a local 'archive' and they do old pictures...
At this point though... I think the great-aunt may pass away before there's a chance she'll visit us again. That 'solves' the problem too XD

Oh dear x) But in case you have some other parent who "catch" dementia, you'll know what to try :)

I really hope neither of my parents will ever get that disease... But yeah, there's a few other old relatives around ;)

10:10 AM
I don't want to be pessimistic, but both of my grandparent caught it :/ (though my grandma is doing better now). So, it might only be temporary, but if they live long enough, they might have it sooner or later

10:22 AM
Yeah... fingers crossed things just go well for a very long time ;)

Yep, finger crossed here as well :)

10:49 AM
Morning :)
Well, so my debit card wasn't the problem after all, looked like a system issue or something :D which is nice because I also opened a 'savings account' and closed an old account so yay :D

@CaldeiraG Yay for the saving account! \o/
How I currently feel:
^^

11:09 AM
xD :D
The card issue was a bummer but I was able to pay for my lunch via an app so it's alright
I talked to the person from the bank (that was the same when i opened it back in 2018) and they said that he also used the card around the same time with no issues so not sure what happened

11:31 AM
One of my coworkers just asked me wanted to be called Ælis instead of <deadname> was because I was non-binary *-*

@Ælis :D Is it okay if I still call you "Noon" or do you rather want me to abandon that nickname as well?
("Noon" is how I've been referring to you to my relatives so let me know if that's not okay with you :))

@avazula I think I'm still okay with Noon for now? It's my given name that I really hate but Noon is just a nickname (even though it's based on my given name). So, I guess I have mix feelings with "Noon" but I'm not really against it for now (though it might change in the future)

@Ælis Well, let me know if you change your mind then, I have no issue with calling you any way you want it :)
that's the need we need it, anyway you want it...

@avazula I think I am lost in my feelings and are not sure about what I want ^^ I think I prefer Ælis when people are talking to me. But I still like being Ælis Noon. And I am not against it if you need to refer me as "Noon" for clarity purpose. Also, I love you, thank you for asking this <3

Welcome American friends!
It's been a quiet morning

Morning @avazula!

Morning @Rain :D

Morning!

Today i drunk a very burnt coffee, I still have the taste of it :x

I haven't had any coffee today

2:01 PM
I've already had 4 latte's. I want another one but... then I will have trouble sleeping tonight.

2:16 PM
Morning @Rainbacon

Morning!

We were talking about coffee here earlier. One of my colleagues mentioned drinking 4 cups a day, another one 5, one 7 and one 10. Then I said I drink 1 or 2 a week. Now they're wondering if I'm even a developer.
brb grabbing more water

@Belle xD
4 per day for me here :D

@Belle I used to be around 10 ._.
Now I'm at like 4-5

I'm really limiting myself to 4, and only on days that I'm at an office. (So, three days a week, usually). Now that I'm more on site, I might need to spread them a bit better ;)

2:23 PM
@Belle I don't drink coffee at all ^^ But I don't need it, I already have my anxiety to play this role :p (drinking coffee when you have anxiety issues is really not a good idea. You should probably stop)

@avazula :o that's like a coffee every 2.5 hours xD

@Belle if you develop, you're a developer :D
@avazula you sound like some of my folks in the old country :D

3:04 PM
@Ælis it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that connection xP
now I usually just drink one cup in the morning, maybe two or a tea if I feel really tired

@avazula Very curious - I understood what you meant even though the phrase rang a bell is more about vaguely remembering something. (Oooh, maybe because of the association with Pavlov?) You might've meant struck a chord? Which is also a musical phrase, looks like. Very interesting...
@Belle I drink 0 per year. :P
Milk allllll the time!

3:20 PM
@El'endiaStarman I guess strike a chord would've been more appropriate in that case indeed ... I've only ever used the former as in "it doesn't ring a bell" so I thought it meant sth like "It's not something I can remember" ... and therefore if it rings a bell it means I've seen that before :p
Not sure that's very understandable haha

@Belle I drink coffee a lot in the winter because it's warm

Q: How to deal with girl who seems less and less interested?

PascalI have met a woman on an online dating app, she is 27 years old, divorced, and has a kid. We met, had a good conversation and shortly kissed, and she said that she would like to see me again. I proposed her to meet again by text messages, and she said yes. However, her replies got shorter and sh...

Yep, same copy..
Only apparently Meta isn't awesome ;)

@Tinkeringbell yeah, removing two of the most respected people on SE hands was the end of the line for some

@CaldeiraG Of course it was. It's not something that can be forgiven.

4:32 PM
@Tinkeringbell Yeah :(

hello everyone

Hey! Long time no see, how are you?

hey! yeah it's been a hot minute... i am mostly good - currently jobhunting and feeling confident about it :) what about you

Hi Alex!

hey belle ^^

4:41 PM
@AlexRobinson Work is going great here, people actually listen when I say stuff :) that's a thing I was starting to miss, learning a new language... So I'm getting a bit more confident which is a good feeling :)

sounds great! which language are you learning?

Magik, still ;)
It's been 1,5 years now, though I think I made more progress since I got a proper mentor in August than the entire time before that

Q: My autistic roommate requests plenty of hugs, but they make me uncomfortable. How do I approach this?

gr-linux-fanI have an autistic roommate - and he is incredibly smart and a genuinely good guy. However, he frequently asks me for hugs and it makes me uncomfortable, unfortunately. His hugs are very long and always involve a lot of rubbing. Part of what contributes to me feeling uncomfortable is that his bre...

@Belle Where's India : (
there must be a bright yellow dot somewhere there

@EmC +1 <3

5:26 PM
Alas, country-level data and (more than?) half of India is poor rural areas.

@Ælis :) it was bugging me (among other things.. but that's the most easily fixed one :p)
@Belle huh! that's surprising

@EmC Oh yeah, the question in itself is absolutely awful. I must say, I haven't read the entire post though. So I have no idea if there are other "bad stuff" in it ^^

5:44 PM
off-topic question ... how do other devs here deal with working on multiple features at once, branching-wise? every so often I try to separate them out but eventually give up and mix everything up in one branch again (like when I need to demo both of them in back-to-back meetings or something) and it feels like a big mess :/
(I'm trying to un-stash stuff right now but of course I have half of one feature still in my current branch so git is unhappy)

@EmC Really just keep them separate, and when demoing unmerged stuff, switch branches.

If you must demo two features simultaneously, make a new branch from one and merge the other into that.

@EmC I usually make a second repo, call it "branch_feature-name" and act like they are not even in the same project ^^

Or have two versions/sessions of your application running, each with 1 branch loaded into it... If that's possible

@Tinkeringbell not really :(
sounds like I need to be more disciplined about keeping track of things. what a surprise :p

Q: how to support my friend who is going to have surgery?

tannazone of my best friend is going to have a cardiac surgery and she is only 17,unfortunately she is in a high functioning depression and i really don`t know what to say or what to do for her to give her a little bit of peace cause recently nothing can cheer her up, also she really afraid of this sur...

it would be a lot easier if the people telling me what to do made up their minds so I didn't have to keep switching around to double-check what I have half-done when they ask questions about it ..

6:02 PM
We don’t use feature branches. Much to my frustration. I’m slowly convincing my coworkers of the need, but the current devops structure doest support it

7:00 PM
@Belle same here^ and unfortunately no matter how many amazing points I make about feature branches, it always comes back to the fact that our version control doesn't handle branches well AT ALL :(
So hoorah for more broken builds I guess

7:14 PM
we only have branches per release.. meh
the workflow is: make a local branch, make your changes, upload the local branch, get it reviewed, merge the local branch into master (or whatever). it's the local branch that I have to be extra careful about, so I don't include random stuff from the other things I'm working on
no idea if that's normal :P

Yea that sounds like how it should be. We're the same but minus the local branch. Ppl just throw code at master and hope for the best. And I speak from experience of watching people throw code--these guys have bad aim and bad arms :p

@scohe001 Please tell me you aren't using TFS

hahah

@scohe001 That must be merge conflict hell

@Rainbacon ha. Our product managers have to coordinate to try to make sure no two devs are working on stories in the same areas of code in the same sprint because we'd start losing so much time.

7:21 PM
@scohe001 that sounds awful

@Rainbacon no, and reading about it, thank goodness. We're using svn, which I've learned is just a less useful git in every way

my last job avoided that problem by having one developer per project :D

Lol that sounds like a Dilbert solution
In other words, brilliant

it's fun times if you know what you're doing! otherwise, very not fun
did mean svn wasn't too painful though because you only ever needed the basic commands ;)

7:37 PM
My first client used TFS, the way it worked was each team had a branch, when you did a release, then you merged your team's branch into master

....... that's like, the opposite of how "master" is normally used (in my experience, at least)

Yikes. How often did stuff break when you merged everything? Actually how long did it take to resolve those merge conflicts?

Yeah, we merged to master only after the deploy was successful, and sometimes they'd forget to do that merge for like a month
Usually they remembered when they did the next team's deploy and things broke
