I've definitely been in similar situations back in college when trying to make new friends and even now at events I go to. I think it's a super relatable situation
It also makes for an interesting question from the other side "How can I tell (or ask) if I'm being that guy to a stranger I just met?"
Eh I think it depends on how it's phrased. If it's like "I'm not sure if the person I'm talking to is just shy or doesn't want to talk to me anymore. How can I ask if they'd prefer to end the conversation?"
But when you get to the point of saying, "Hey you should go hit on that woman" and the response is "No, I'm happily engaged" and then you continue to try to get the person to go hit on the woman, you're probably past the point of caring if they want to end the conversation or not
@Rainbacon I wouldn't be so sure. I feel like (in those situations I mentioned above), my personality was a little too much for a shy person I was talking to. Granted I tried to disengage when they weren't responding like I expected them to (instead of continuing like your guy), but I think ending up in a situation where you're not compatible is completely possible
