7:04 AM
And goood morning everyone. How was the weekend?

A J
@Tinkeringbell good afternoon! Mine was okaish. Spent Friday evening and the whole Saturday trying to figure out problems and mitigate any possible issue in my laptop. I watched GotG Vol. 1 and 2, and Gone Girl and made some electric switchboards while watching a movie. How about yours?

Mine was quieter :P Celebrated a birthday on Friday, then spent Saturday and Sunday having a cold, so lot's of NetFlix and a little cleaning... oh, and crochet :P

A J
@Tinkeringbell Is crochet harder than making electric switchboards? :P

I have a monday-tuesday weekend this week XD

A J
@JourneymanGeek NICE!!!

7:15 AM
@AJ I worked over the weekend, and have 3 12 hour night shifts coming up XD

@AJ Probably depends on what you're used to doing :)

A J
@JourneymanGeek That's a lot of work. Slow down!

@JourneymanGeek In that case, Enjoy :)

@AJ alas, that's normal

A J
@JourneymanGeek so, watcha plan to do on weekends? ;)

7:17 AM
lol
state mandated fitness classes today.
Need to go to a hospital for a mandatory health test XD

A J
@JourneymanGeek everything's fine?

'State mandated'? Like in, people actually interfere with how you live your life?

APPARENTLY I have low HDL and that and being sedentary is enough of a risk factor for...
@Tinkeringbell maaaan, I keep having to explain that
So... Singapore has a conscription system since we can't rely on anyone to save our ass.

@JourneymanGeek Yeah well... I can only imagine the outrage were our government to try that stuff

Sid
7:19 AM
@Tinkeringbell Slept like a panda. And went to KFC with a friend and got my pocket emptied. :P

Part of that is basically going 'if you can't pass the military fitness test, we'll have to ask you, nicely, to complete 10 sessions a year, or else... on your own time, of course"
@Tinkeringbell If you did that, they'd probably find some reason to throw you into prison ;)

A J
@Sid Was it your birthday party you gave or is it something else? :P

@JourneymanGeek Okay. I'm staying here :P

@Tinkeringbell eh, only guys ;p

@JourneymanGeek What happened to equal rights? :P

7:21 AM
@Tinkeringbell blah, I'm all for equal rights ;)
But is the stuff I need to deal with XD

A J
Speaking of equal rights, women in Saudi Arabia finally got permission to drive.

@AJ Was that UAE or Saudi Arabia?

Sid
@AJ No birthday party. I promised my friend that we would go to KFC some time. Sunday was the day I had to fulfill my promise..

A J
@JourneymanGeek corrected

Sid
7:25 AM
Like, it cost me 300 bucks for one meal. Hell, I should have just gone to a roadside stall and had a meal at 30 bucks

A J
O.o

That's expensive... :/

A J
@Sid Yeah, even a burger costs less than 50. You could give a coke and a burger. That should be enough.

Sid
A burger in KFC costs at least a 100 bucks.

7:27 AM
What currency?

A J
@Sid Not to mention, you have to pay GST around 28%.

Sid
I won't ever go to that place again.
@JourneymanGeek rupees.

ah ok
that makes a bit more sense.

Sid
@AJ exactly. That also adds up in the bill
Or I should just go there and have that drink they give. Krushers or something. Cheap and delicious

man
and we're grumpy they want to push it up to 10% here

7:35 AM
Oh... I just looked. 300 rupees isn't that expensive in euros :P ...

Guys, I think I have some kind of question I'm trying to formulate but I can't seem to find a good way to form it.

nope
hence me asking what currency XD

@Dastardly If a girl may help as well, fire away :P

Don't forget though pay and cost of living is just as important as relative absolute value ;)

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, that's true. ;) I remember grandpa bragging about the times he could buy stuff for a cent ... although at that time, pay was only like 15 guilders a week if you were fortunate!

7:39 AM
yup

Sid
@Tinkeringbell Yes. But cost of living, blah blah blah

yup
though that's gone up massively in india no?
Well inflation has

There is this person, when I talk to them face to face or on the phone (calling), its fine and all, they are nice and easy to talk to, even funny.
But when I talk to them via a chat or in writing, they tend to use some kind of writing style which is really... really annoying to me.
It's like an all cutesy daisy way something like : "hhh I don't want to bother uWu"
And I cant help but cringe at this everytime I see it.

@Dastardly Ah. Have you tried just asking them to talk regular English?
(or whatever language you're typing in ;) )

I did, that's what I do
They talk in that way.
But it seems it's just their reflex. They go back to this eventually.
I think I should just try to avoid speaking with them over a chat.
It'll be easier. ;(

7:48 AM
@Dastardly Yeah, or just ignore it until them until they remember to talk to you in regular language ;)

Respond by putting 42 random 8 numbers in between your 12 sentence. When they ask you what those mean you say: "Oh I though we were both just putting in random characters. Must've missinterpreted your messages up to now then"

Sid
@JourneymanGeek gone up, yes. Massively? No. Except, we are paying more taxes than normal. And no visible improvement In living conditions.
I could go on a rant about all that is wrong with my country but it wouldn't help anyone. Not would it change anything

8:14 AM
lol
@Sid My parents moved from there in the 70s
So I was literally meaning stuff getting a heck of a lot more expensive in terms of numbers
No politics meant

A J
8:43 AM
@JourneymanGeek you were born there?

No born in Singapore

@Dastardly welcome to the age of txtspk
Ugh, I really need to get a pair of gloves.
I ordered a pair online weeks ago but they haven't arrived yet :|

A J
@Mithrandir for what?

@AJ my bike

A J
@Mithrandir why does your bike need gloves? :P

8:54 AM
Now that I'm... rather attached to my bike, literally, gloves would help protect my hands when I fall over :P. Still learning how to use these...

A J
@Mithrandir Really? I'd just put those on and ride the bike. :P
Or are you really practicing to fall over? :p

Riding is fine. Riding on things and flying off ramps isn't as simple.

A J
@Mithrandir Yeah. If anything goes wrong, you'd lose more teeth in that way than you did in your young days.
too many Ys in there.

I've been clipped in for about two weeks, and in that time I've fallen over still attached perhaps two dozen times.

A J
9:10 AM
It was just a metaphor for injuries caused by such accidents.

Q: How to stop being invited to girlfriend's family vacations?

oustMy girlfriend's family likes to take trips together and my girlfriend always goes with them. The problem is that they often want to include me and I don't really want to go. They cover all costs and are actually really nice about it and I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I simply do not enjoy ...

Q: Why, in this day in age, are a lot of people concerned with the organisation rather than the people the organisation represents?

HeavenlyHarmonyI posted this question in politics as there is currently no official sociology and anthropology site, although it has been proposed. It was suggested that I post in Psychology. I was in a debate on Facebook about the overall policy and rules of the National Federation for the Blind, one of the l...

2:09 PM
Hello people :) It's monday, why are y'all so silent? :(

'Cause we're awkward. :-)

Ugh, I guess so!

I like that your question in Worldbuilding is scaring people. xD "This is for a book, right...?"

Muahahaha :P
More like for my daydreaming I guess. I don't often write stuff down, although I do make drawings from time to time

Drawings of nuking The Netherlands? xD

2:12 PM
I had a period where I did a lot of underwater scenery drawing...
I always messed up on the fish, but I got quite tolerable at drawing seaweed and corals and shipwrecks...

Ooooh! I wanna see! I'm a sucker for underwater anything. The girlfriend likes to make fun of me for it. xD

Nope :P I draw, I don't make art :P

Well now I've really gotta see!

Hahaha not going to happen :P

@TheTinyMan [opens mouth to speak, instead gets caught up with phlegm, breathes in reflexively, chokes, coughs a fit]
hi o/

2:14 PM
@doppelgreener What'd I say? xD Heya!

@TheTinyMan did you know i share another chatroom with someone called Miniman

@doppelgreener I have heard of this person. He sounds huge.

I agree

@TheTinyMan Here's something else:

@Tinkeringbell Eeeeeeee it's so cuuuuuute! Its little eyes! xD

2:23 PM
It's a T-rex! It's supposed to look dangerous and scary... but somehow mine ended up looking like it just hatched

You can't crochet something scary-looking! Surely that's not a thing! :-p

@Tinkeringbell that's kinda suitable for t-rex version 1, it'll have to take time to become dangerous and scary

@TheTinyMan I once saw someone that crocheted a lifelike baby doll... Do you know there's this actual psychology thing where things look more lifelike and they freak us out?
@doppelgreener I'll make sure to feed it lots of meat :D

crotcheted t-bone steaks and meat on the bone? :P

@doppelgreener Hmm... you've just given me an idea :P

2:28 PM
@Tinkeringbell oh no. ;_; oh dear.

@Tinkeringbell That's weapons grade adorable.

we studied the uncanny valley in film class. :D

@JourneymanGeek Maybe I can use it to flood the Netherlands then :P

@Tinkeringbell i am eager to know what the idea is. :D

@doppelgreener Nice. I just re-read the article and found it's not as much a psychology as an aesthetics thing...
@doppelgreener I'm going to crochet some meat for it :P I'll keep you posted ;)

2:30 PM
@Tinkeringbell more that it feels more off.

@Tinkeringbell hooray!

@Tinkeringbell Someone got into uncanny valley territory with crochet?? That's incredible!

@TheTinyMan Yep. I'll see if I can find a picture for you :)
Oh wait, it was this one that managed to make me go 'ewwww': ontheneedlesdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/…

@Tinkeringbell [screaming]

Huh. That's actually past uncanny valley territory for me into 'lifelike cute' ... or maybe that's just because I don't like babies. :-p
@Tinkeringbell Oh, yeah, okay, that does it O . O

2:33 PM
@TheTinyMan Told ya :P

@Tinkeringbell [more screaming]

Maybe it's time to purge some messages? :P

that is creepy
and I actually like babies of most species

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I've yet to find anyone that wasn't creeped out by that. That second one was posted on a crochet facebook group and I didn't see a single lady go 'awww'. They really admired the technique and effort, but no-one called it cute XD

2:38 PM
@Tinkeringbell looks like the sort of thing you'd find in a demon infested swamp hut

@JourneymanGeek hahaha I can just imagine a grandmother sitting there, crocheting loads of those dolls...
And singing some weird-ass, creepy lullaby :)
I found another one.... @TheTinyMan check your discord :P
Ohh.. and these are beautiful: media.phillyvoice.com/media/images/…

hauntingly beautiful

@doppelgreener Exactly :P Some people... i.pinimg.com/236x/39/64/b0/…

@Tinkeringbell 13/10 too fabulous

@Tinkeringbell a man who dresses like that, clearly has nothing to fear

2:51 PM
@doppelgreener Yeah true.. on second thought that guy does manage to pull it off :P This one then, maybe? img.viralnova.com/000/121/768/desktop-1425059096.jpg apparently a wedding dress :/
I'd personally have made the top with red yarn :P
Ugh. I'm ending up in corners of the internet that are too dangerous.

@Tinkeringbell i'm horrified and i can't see that as a wedding dress, even if i'm trying to be generous (i know exactly what you mean with the red yarn and you're right XD)
@JourneymanGeek <3

@Tinkeringbell Oh gods...I'm dying...this is hilarious...need....air....
It's marketed for kids, totally appropriate for SE! snrk

@Tinkeringbell looks like a casket or a very ornate... err....

@TheTinyMan No we're not gonna!

2:53 PM
@Tinkeringbell Is that an iron maiden? xD

(for those wondering what we're talking about: I sent him a picture of an 'educational crochet doll explaining childbirth').
@JourneymanGeek Hey, I found something for Ash: i.pinimg.com/564x/36/0d/a7/360da7c3616d95f403d0c01dbcf00ec3.jpg

As much hair is represented, I'm surprised that there are none under her arms...

@Tinkeringbell ash would not be amused

That one was legitimately adorable! xD

@JourneymanGeek :( Not living up the SE unicorn spirit? Bad dog :P

2:55 PM
he'd then go flat on the ground and utilise his rather amazing intellegence in making sure that the damned thing never ever saw the light of day again
@Tinkeringbell well, technically he's already the root access mascot ;p

I've managed to end up on a pinterest board with a whole lot of cringy (crochet) stuff: nl.pinterest.com/pin/267542034085829712/?lp=true
@JourneymanGeek Ahh, well, you can't be two things at once.

I think we had a shirt on him as a puppy

Is that green one...lizardman skin? Because I can see people getting a lot of mileage out of that during winter LARPs!

and had a santa hat on him once. He then got it off, and chewed on it in revenge

2:57 PM
That's amazing!

@TheTinyMan What green one?
@JourneymanGeek Aww... Our pets never liked clothing either, though the rabbit did like to huddle under a blanket.
And we managed to get leashes on both the rabbit and the guinea pig so they could walk on the grass near our house (supervised)

ash... is a bedding thief

I mean his current quilt is his but he's stolen... 2 foam mattresses, a blanket, 2 pillows...

@JourneymanGeek M...mattresses!?

3:00 PM
@TheTinyMan we stored them under a bed

Like you go to sleep and wake up and the mattress has been moved from beneath you to another bed? xD That's what I am picturing and I can't imagine that the reality holds up to my mental image.
ahhh

we found ash sleeping on it. He sleeps on it, its his.
See, that's the sort of thing that people totally would see ash doing ;p

@TheTinyMan Ahh... Well, I can just imagine someone showing up at a LARP in a very bright crocheted costume, like some yarn wizard :P

@Tinkeringbell People have talked about this very thing, I think I actually have a friend who did that once

SQB
3:48 PM
@Tinkeringbell I like that, the Yarn Wizard.

Q: How do I setup realistic boundaries with friends and acquaintances?

Bodhi WalkerI am 32 at the moment and I find it extremely difficult to make real sense of my relations with people. A recent example is, my old school friend visited me and we had a nice long chat and a lunch together, he told me about one of the life problem he was facing, and it happened to be something ...

@Tinkeringbell I should stop squee-ing. But you keep posting things like that! xD

Hahaha I have too much free google time ... I really should stop, I've already got more patterns than I can make in a life time

@Tinkeringbell I approve

1 hour later…
5:50 PM
62 messages moved to Trash
Hoppa... Roomcleaning! :D

@Tinkeringbell Googling "hoppa" has only left me more confused O_O

Ahh that seems like a fun term!

It is :)

6:32 PM
@Tinkeringbell oh hey it's a @Mith

@Tinkeringbell NICE!!!!! :D :D

(I see one such Mithrandir has already seen it :D)

@Mithrandir24601 Not mine (yet :P)

@Tinkeringbell Where can I buy one?

@Mithrandir24601 I dunno, the pattern is in the link. Buy a hook and some yarn and be creative :P

6:35 PM
@Tinkeringbell But... But I haven't done any knitting in over decade and I've never crocheted anything :/ Maybe I'll send it to my Aunt?

@Mithrandir24601 That's a great use of aunts :P

@Tinkeringbell Yes. It absolutely it :)
Although I'm not sure if she's up to doing anything like that anymore - she used to a few years back but she might have stopped now

I'm still busy with a tiny pterodactyl this week ;) After that, the T-rex needs to be fed (scroll up). Maybe after that I'll start a Mithrandir, it looks like it's a nice tiny project that can be done on the train :)
