Q: My roommate/friend uses an unprecedented amount of toilet paper and I'm not sure what to do about it..?

CurtisI (22m) recently moved in with my two friends (21m and 22m). One roommate (21m) goes through toilet paper like water (like we're talking 8 rolls in like a week or two). But basically me and my other roommate/childhood friend (22m) don't know if we should like confront him or just start using our ...

Q: My friend is being really weird with me. What does this mean?

PyroI'm a 14-year old female and has been friends with this specific girl for about 9 months. Recently, she has been really 'touchy-feely' with me for the past month. I'm the type of person that doesn't really enjoy skinship, but because I dote on this friend of mine, I just shook it off. I know the ...

Q: How do you ask your father to stop getting angry for making additional math courses?

Alex ADealing with a father that gets angry when a man teaches his child in additional courses I’m now in grade 12( the final year of High school) and very close to final exams. The reason I’m asking this, is because, I had an issue 3 years ago in grade 9, that on a winter, my mother hired a man to te...

I guess Tinder isn't the place for me - 90% of people didn't even fill in their profile at all and the profiles of 9% just consists of a single line, which is often just emojis.

4:03 PM
I'm probably doing it wrong if I'm swiping left on 99%+ of people.

6:38 PM
Problem solved - I just have a script now to like everyone with more than 100 characters in their profile and do the whole reading thing later.

6:55 PM
I have a gut feeling that Tinder is not for people who have the ability to do that. :P

Well, it's certainly not their primary market...
On the web version, you actually have to click, and then scroll, to see someone's profile, so they presumably expect people to mostly just judge based on picture and name.

Sounds quite like real life, actually...

You mean you don't go around giving people pieces of paper summarising your personality?

DDD
why so much silence today?

Typical for the weekend.

7:05 PM
It was the weekend... that's generally quiet

DDD
Ok, you mean people are not checking stack.... accounts?
at weekends

Well, personally, I'm offline for ~25 hours on the weekend.

Most people have lives that involve doing stuff not on the computer. (Not me though.)
I think many people are on SE while they're at work (often because of SO, I'd guess).

ok

7:09 PM
we get more time at weekend

7:20 PM
It's actually fairly hard to be completely sure that my script is working, since you can't see who you've liked. I'll only really be sure if I get a match.

7:56 PM
yeah, plus I'm crashing after a busy two days traveling and giving presentations that went well :)

Is that the 'someone gave a nasty talk, now we made a petition to say we don't agree' thing?

basically

Already looked at it :P This saves me some clicking and reading then ;)

TL;DR: a talk was given at CERN by Alessandro Strumia, a well-known particle theorist who is a Professor of Physics at the University of Pisa and a current associate of the theory department at CERN. In this talk he argued that the primary explanation for the discrepancies between men and women in theoretical physics is that women are inherently less capable. As particle physicists, we are appalled by Strumia’s actions and his stated views on women in high energy physics.

@NotThatGuy Someone gave a talk/presentation and people disagree.

9:02 PM
I know, I was trying to post the TLDR here but it's not letting me...

@NotThatGuy I like my TL;DR better :P Leaves some clickbait XD
But now that I'm thinking on it, we may wanna leave the petitioning out of SE chatrooms? Just a random thought... is there a policy on such stuff?

People can link to whatever... as long as it's not like NSFW or anything

Probably depends on how close we think this is to IPS

@NotThatGuy Nah, this room has been used for all kinds of off-topic stuff.
We're not that strict in that sense
We did have some trouble keeping the room in line though sometimes when things got political

Yeah, I learned that after making a small political remark. I understood pretty quickly and I also did some looking in some of the older chats

9:09 PM
Yup. It's much better now, but I'm still always wary of 'if we allow this, we have to allow the total opposite too and how much trouble would that bring'

I started off thinking I'd be productive today, but I got distracted...
Although my distraction might turn out to be more productive.

I don't plan on making my bot quite so advanced though.
(TL;DR: dating sucks)

Q: Smokers at playgrounds

J. DoeI can't stand anymore to encounter smoking parents as I visit playgrounds with my 3 years old daughter. Is there any constructive way to turn down smoking at playground? I do not want a real escalation, it is playground I do not think I am there to educate anybody I do not want to just leave ...
