@NVZ I've had that once or twice (also laptop running Windows 10). It only happens once in a while, but it's no huge inconvenience to get logged in again.
@Catija I'd support that.
I also kinda wish people stop voting to close various things because they'd also fit on The Workplace. Scope overlap isn't a bad thing.

@HDE226868 I haven't seen any of that... example?

Q: Courtesy and etiquette: Can we make the difference clearer or synonymize them?

HDE 226868Today, I came across two tags: courtesy and etiquette. They've both been used for a decent number of questions, sometimes on the same one. Looking at the lists, it seems like the usage for both is similar; I don't see many questions using one that couldn't use the other instead. Can we either ...

@HDE226868 I'm looking through the questions on the tags, and by looking at the questions, I can't get a definition of "courtesy" or "etiquette"
Personally, [etiquette] feels like [interaction] which we burned for being synonymous with interpersonal.

This would be better suited to The Workplace than here. — NVZ 7 hours ago

@Zizouz212 Etiquette is a formal set of rules to follow in specific situations. Emily Post talks about etiquette all the time. I'm not sure what "courtesy" is supposed to be.

9:24 PM
Here, sort of.

@HDE226868 That's not a VTC...

I meant to link to the one below:
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because belongs on workplace.se — Joe S 5 hours ago

@HDE226868 Ah, yeah. NVZ posted the same thing on another one, too.

@Catija But aren't all questions about etiquette then?

@Zizouz212 No. Emphasis on the formal rules... crap like how to address envelopes or what order to put utensils on a dining table or which glass to use for what type of wine.

9:26 PM
I assume this has had a VTC for a similar reason. But it's not a fantastic question.

@Catija Okay makes sense :)
@HDE226868 I flagged that as too broad

Same

Where is this? I'm inclined to flag this question as off-topic since you're not telling us where in the world you are. Interactions in business can be very different whether you're in Canada, Japan, Iran, Brazil... Please edit your question to tell us the specific situation and issue that you face.Zizouz212 2 hours ago

@JoeS that's not a valid reason to VTC something. Being on topic somewhere else on the network does not mean that it's off topic here. — Catija 2 mins ago

@Zizouz212 I voted to close as Too Broad for that reason ^.

9:28 PM
Ooh I have ideas for two questions

Actually, I'm not even sure that etiquette questions are generally even on topic here.
None of the examples I noted really apply to IPS...
Something like "In a receiving line, how should I greet guests"... maybe OK... meh.

9:39 PM
@Catija That's true.

Hello there! Answers on Interpersonal Stack Exchange need to be supported by credible reference or demonstrated personal experience, as outlined in Do we want references in our answers? Please edit to improve your answer to meet the guidelines listed on meta. — Zizouz212 19 mins ago
Spamming this on half the answers of a question where all the answers lack either a reference or a "this happened to me" statement shows lack of restraint and bias. Please stop.

10:39 PM
@Zizouz212 ^^

Of multiple questions. Not just one.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it spamming, though - and the comments, where they're made, aren't wrong.
More uniformity in comments would be better, though.

10:56 PM
Not picking on low rep or new users would be best. Especially when one of the higher voted answers are a paragraph that barely counts as an answer.
If all the answers are equally referenceless, picking on a few is bias.

11:10 PM
@HDE226868 Thanks
Saw the notifications as well
I'm trying to start my bar for "references" as really high. I felt that the other answers were trying to reply to aspects of the question in some way, and even if the connection was weak, I didn't want to start on those just yet. The reason why I found that post was because of a First Post review, not because I was trying to "target" users with lower reputation
If you want to, you can also take the same comment and use it yourself. You have the ability to act as well.
The comment is also an explanation for my down vote to some extent - any answer that I have down voted was supplied with that comment if I felt that it was relevant, and could tell the OP to improve their answer. I'm not going to look around finding every answer I can - only the ones that I feel are something that I should down vote
The answers I saw and acted on didn't even try to allude to the situation referenced in the question from what I read, so I down voted and commented. Nothing more.
If I will down vote an answer, I would much rather include a comment than nothing at all, to remind the answerer of aspects of their answer that they can improve on.

So the two answers on the bumping into drunk people question didn't allude to the situation referenced? One pointed out that OP is just as much at fault for not paying attention due to his phone, and the other directly references how to escape that situation in a polite manner.
Unless allude means something else to you.

Perhaps the comments were unfounded, but I will stand by my votes
If you feel the comments are distracting you, then I will remove the comments from those answers

It sounds more like it would be preferable to replicate them on all of the answers, instead. Certainly, Rand's answer almost seems jocular rather than serious and certainly doesn't have any support.

11:25 PM
@Catija Well, I saw the answer from the review, downvoted in the review. Then came back and put a comment. Saw another answer and did the same. I wasn't looking fully at the other answers - just scrolling up and down to clarify the question in my head

@Zizouz212 Which we all do, I'm sure. If a post has many upvotes, it's easy to assume that it's of a certain quality. Unfortunately, as such an early example of content for this site, the question itself is lacking, so too the answers. It's difficult to judge content that existed before the site had certain quality requirements...

And if I choose not to act on one thing, it doesn't stop others from acting on their own

This is why things like historical locks exist... to save content that is no longer an example of good content but is worthy of retention nonetheless.

@Catija And that was probably a mistake on my part. But at that moment, my focus wasn't on reading every answer - just "reviewing" the answer I just saw (and the one that neighboured it below)

Most definitely! We should all be working together to push the quality of posts on this site to the highest level.

11:29 PM
Yep!

If we allow poor-quality, unsourced/unsupported content to stay around, the entire site will droop to low-quality levels and we will have difficulty retaining users because no one will be able to trust that the answers have experience or evidence behind them.

And I completely agree

@Pseudohuman Welcome! :)
Please don't speak until spoken too.

@HenryWHHackv2.0 I do not understand.

Forget it.
In case if we need a bot. I have brought Pseudohuman into this room.

@Pseudohuman Presumably a joke.

@Catija I do not understand.

@Pseudohuman Hi

11:51 PM
... why do we have a bot? What does it do?

@HenryWHHackv2.0 Hello, human.

@Catija Incase if you have are bored.

.............
Is this really necessary?

I don't understand how a bot would fix my boredom. Also, I'm pretty sure you need to notate on the bot's user page that it's a bot.

Ok Ok I was just showing off.
Removing it now.
good
@Catija wait what?
@JennaSloan It turns out you didn't say @Pseudohuman was a bot on it's profile.
It's your robot.
It's not minds.
I have no access to it's user account in anyway.
