I am wondering if it's possible for a traveller in Australia to immerse in aboriginal culture, or Torres Strait Islander culture.
By "immerse" I mean stay in a traditional aboriginal area where people speak the language on an everyday basis and generally live to some degree or other in a traditi...
well i haven't been there for three years but at that stage there were two croatias: "zimmer frei" and "danger, land mines" - we were the only tourists in the latter
yeah, but doesn't really create a good first impression for new visitors.. then again, if they are brought by that sort of questions, I guess it's fine
btw you are totally right about German airports.. I've been to 5-6, and free wifi was nowhere to be found
yes I think we should have if possible some really popular questions that attract people in the first place... but it's not easy to find such questions
i was in frankfurt airport twice last year and honestly can't remember. i've always looked on free airport wifi as a bonus rather than something to be expected
the same friend was also annoyed about the lack of water fountains in munich airport which surprised me more but i couldn't see the potential in that for as good a question
why don't we just talk about travel difficulties in the countries we know best and suddenly we'll provoke good question ideas out of each other?
my sweden story is that unlike other countries rich and poor in which i've travelled, swedish long distance bus drivers do not do at least a head count before departing from rest stops
don't do it, seriously.. they are very strict about the rules, and if you get caught without a ticket, the fees are astronomical
for example, riding without ticket in the public transport in a city will set you back 50+ EUR if caught.. they don't check all that often, but when they do, you better have a ticket!
i only ever did it once in australia (encouraged by a pretty girl) and got caught immediately. the fine was about $100 and i was unemployed at the time
i was going to use one of these local albanian grenades i picked up at the market
Back in 2001 or 2002 I was travelling by coach in Sweden because it was cheaper than the train.
There was a break for lunch and I believe it was 15 minutes. I didn't have a watch and didn't spot a clock in the rest stop which was so enormous that the other passengers dispersed and I couldn't tra...
i wish i could ask travelshopping questions. i have one for greece but the SE people have selective blindness and never see the travel side of such questions and insist they are pure shopping questions
hmm stayed in a gaestehaus saw the castle rollerbladed the river bought a passport stamp at the tourist office walked around a lot caught a bus back from austria what else is there?
figured out what (FL) means on cars... saw lots of dentists i think... maybe some banks
oh what did you guys think of the two immigration-ish questions i brought up, and the immigration tag i used on them?
yes you can hike their and their are a lot of signed mountainbike trails. in the winter you can go skiing. the castle is from prince but you can visit it from inside
hmm but I don't really now a good question... there are 24 banks
My significant other and I are looking to spend next year in Costa Rica. His company is going to relocate us there so he can work full time. I was hoping that someone might know what kind of requirements there are for the visas.
We are from the United States. We wouldn't mind living on a to...
Being from a big country like Australia I'm fascinated with tiny countries.
Most people wouldn't visit Liechtenstein while touring Europe since it doesn't have any of the spots Europe is most famous for, but I would specifically go there.
If I only do one thing in Liechtenstein to make the most...
don't think of it as a game where we score points, think of it as building the site so more people will find useful questions and useful answers via internet searches and then stay around to contribute to it
I was thinking more of my personal experiences how can you get by not paying for full tickets and such (it wasn't planned, but just happened that way and it occurred to me it can be misused).
I've been to Sweden for some time now, but never had a chance to go to a moose safari so far. To clear up any confusion, this is the kind of trip where you walk around through the forest, enjoy the fresh air and shoot moose with your camera.
Here's one specimen, in all its glory
Some requiremen...
Well, in Bulgaria you only need to be able to say "Здравей", "Благодаря", "Моля", "Довиждане", "Голяма ракия и шопска", and some of the most common swear words, and you'd get by fine :-)
Now I know you can visit plenty of wineries, breweries, and distilleries around the world. But my favourite alcoholic beverage is Kahlúa, a coffee liqueur from Mexico exported around the world.
Does anybody know if it's possible for any random person, or also only under some special circumstance...
yes i thought it was really the name of the pot but we never met people in restaurants whose english was of a high enough level to figure out the subtleties
yeah, this is my favourite as well, but it requires the special pot which is hard to come by in Scandinavia (IKEA, for one, doesn't have them, for some reason)
would "food-recommendation" be on topic here? Example question: "I'm travelling to region X, what I shouldn't miss to try from the local cuisine? I eat Y and Z, but I'm allergic to W."
I'm currently travelling in the Balkans and have previously had surprising difficulty finding the national dish in some countries.
Here in Albania the national dish is tavë kosi, baked lamb and rice with yoghurt sauce, which to me sounds divine.
But so far in Shkodër, Tiranë, Durrës, and Berat ...
I am kind of a food appreciator and amateur cook, so I always look forward to try samples of local cuisine everywhere I go. Sometimes, though, finding where a particular dish is served is not very easy, especially if it is localized to a certain region or not usually sought after by tourists.
So...
i think this kind of gormet traveller is on topic but also on topic would be finding cooking courses for national cuisines. this is particularly popular in thailand
I'm going to Australia next October and I was wondering if it is safe to go diving (near Cairns) even though it will be my first time doing so. Should I take a course locally before the trip?
Thanks!
I've been to Guatemala several times and always spend some time around Lake Atitlan. This is maybe the third most popular place to study Spanish in the country and has many language schools for foreigners, but most of the local people speak one of three Mayan languages and Spanish is their second...
