I played Codenames in person a week and a half ago. Good times.
15:45
I played Pandemic for the first time in forever last Sunday, does that count? :P
(Board game not online)

o/
@dcfyj Ironic time to start playing it :P

1 hour later…
17:35
@James A friend of mine had never played it and I literally just got a copy of the game :P we played for about 6 hours straight just the two of us haha
Nice. What difficulties did you win on?
I think I've won on 6 epidemics exactly once
We won on 4 and 5 that night, the next day we played 1 game before I had to leave, decided to put 6 in, and we won haha
I forget which combo we had, I think contingency expert with researcher
I think roles like medic, Quarantine Specialist, and operations expert are more appealing because they get to do cool things, but researcher is secretly the strongest
I don't know, quarantine specialist is amazing at mitigating damage. Researcher + scientist gets the cures fast though
@dcfyj Have you ever heard of/played forbidden desert? It's very similar to pandemic, maybe a little bit simpler
I enjoy it a lot. I think it's a bit shorter too
17:42
The problem with getting medic + quarantine specialist is that you have amazing damage control, which causes you to get cocky and run out of cards lol
@James Nah, I have Forbidden Island though, probably a similar game
Yep, same series. iirc they're basically the exact same game except in desert you don't permanently lose tiles, it just takes longer and longer to recover them
I think there's a third one too that I haven't played (sky island of some sort?)
My wife and I have Forbidden Island. She loves it.
@El'endiaStarman if you haven't played Pandemic it's very similar (if harder) to forbidden Island
@dcfyj Well yeah, when you start playing you think it's a race against the cubes, and so you focus really hard on preventing outbreaks and you feel like you're doing awesome because you haven't had a single outbreak and then you get to the end and realize you haven't researched a single cure XD
I think it feels like a race against the clock a lot more frequently than a race against the cubes stacking up
@dcfyj I think I've played the board game exactly once many years ago but I did enjoy it.
17:48
lol yeah, It's a race against the deck, so you have to manage your cards really well (especially with only 2 people) and you have to mitigate the damage all while trying to get the cures ASAP
@James Problems is you can't let the cubes stack up, since if you run out of any one of them you lose lol
Forbidden desert looks pretty interesting
looks like characters can die from I'm guessing dehydration
Yes
The equivalent of an epidemic is "The Sun Beats Down", where all characters that are not inside a tunnel lose one water ration
huh, there's a co-op version of codenames
Oh yeah, I've played that more than regular. It's good
Looks like there are 4 forbidden games: Island, Stars, Desert, and Sky
Not sure if stars is related or not yet
Looks more like a 40k game
Yeah, It's not related, just has a similar name
18:05
@James I'd say epidemic is much worse than that lol
@dcfyj Maybe, but there's also... Storms? Or whatever it's called which increases the number of cards (equivalent to infection cards) you draw each turn. Also I think a single round of sand is worse than a single round of infection
I don't know, infections can cascade horribly, I'm not sure about the sand lol
Sand doesn't cascade but you add it faster
But hey, they're two different games with different designs and balance :P
