By the way @DJMcMayhem, little refresher of Biblical events chronology: the Exodus happened, then the Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years, then Jericho got toppled. The latter isn't considered part of the Exodus which is why I didn't think about it.

Basically the Israelites got out of Egypt and then 1) complained that the desert sucked and being slaves was better and 2) were too scared to go conquer Canaan, so God basically said "Okay fine, y'all are gonna wander until all the olds die off and then the rest can enter Canaan."
