Q: Codenames: Can you use a clue that contains a word on the board within it in an unrelated way?

In Codenames, can you give a clue when the series of letters of one of the tiles on the table is contained within it? For example, can you give the clue "barrier" when "bar" is on the table? Or "bandolier" and "band"? (This needs the tag Codenames, but I don't have the rep to create it)

So first thing that pops out to me is that I have game-realted stuff: CRICKET HORSESHOE MARBLE

Dating/nightlife related: CHICK BAR CLUB

Animals: CRICKET CHICK MOUSE (but VET is red)

Oh boy RED sure has a lot of BLUE clues in those guesses.

GAME could work for CRICKET, HORSESHOE, MARBLE, and CHICK (because it is a game meat)

NIGHTLIFE ccould then be used for BAR, CLUB, and MOUSE
