7:00 PM
and so what's your grief with sq?

it's pretty easy compared to europe vs eu vs schengen though

@hippietrail fair enough.

and a downright doddle compared to england vs uk vs britan vs great britain vs british isles

scandinavia technically isn't finland, IIRC?

sq is the lead tag. or was when i opened the synonyms page.... let me refresh it...

7:01 PM
oh it's the master, yep, found it

right. nor iceland. i did have to look it up in wikipedia

fixed
England, Britain etc is fine, but then I have lived there and regularly even the locals will struggle to tell you the difference between GB and UK

i think that's all my whinging for tonight on that topic thankyouverymuch

and Commonwealth

what I've still not sorted out is why there's a Team GB for the Olympics, an English rugby team (and Scottish), the cricket is technically the English and Wales Cricket Board, and there's a UK team for some other stuff
although I get why Ireland rugby team has a non-normal anthem ;)

7:04 PM
oh yeah those were just examples of confusing sets of terms not about our tags

and commonwealth games has England etc as individuals again

youve made it sound even simpler ... NOT
oh what a terrible SE chat room edit feature joke

someone should figure out all those annoying countries and organizations, they are messing with our tags

lol
And then of course NZ has that great West Island that people keep trying to call Australia ;)

yeah, those rascals

7:07 PM
is it against the rules to ask you all to vote for my comment if you agree with it on this non exact duplicate of my question:
3
A: Proposing tag wiki creation does not work on meta sites

randomAll child metas across the Stack Exchange network suck down their tag wiki pages from the motherboat here on Meta Stack Overflow. We're not currently allowing tag wikis to be edited on metas, as we plan to push out the shared meta tag wikis from meta.so. Unable to propose tag wiki

which reminds me of a great flickr set by an acquaitance of mine: mapping stereotypes

I wouldn't think so, as long as we agree with it

can't we just merge new zealand into zealand? there's nothing new there anyway

sadly there's another zealand, so no

isn't it zeeland?
the one in the netherlands

7:09 PM
the other one, yes

well merge it into sealand then d-;

and now that Chch is being destroyed and we'll have to rebuild, it'll be new again soon ;)
ooh, sealand, I so want to go there just to have a great argument with country counting purists ;)

omg that looks smaller than liechtenstein

hehehe

the vatican city is probably a bit upset too
hey how can we have no questions at all on the hut river provence???

50 quid for a visa?!
they must be joking

wikitravel.org/en/Hell_%28Hades%29 is a great read too ;)
(Hell (Hades))

what was i doing today i hear you ask? i was being adventurous and creative: photosynth.net/…
cheaper than a russian visa and a usa visa, i'm almost convinced

and apparently hate people with *nix OS-es

Yeah, if I was going back to the UK to live, I'd have considered it for a hilarious weekend
first person I've seen to use phtosynth successfully other than for promotional means. Very nice!

7:18 PM
no need to hate because those people have open source and can make their own
oh i have some much better ones. i have one of the whole town i'm in and will make a much bigger one tonight

and so they did.. and is slightly more responsive than, say, a slug being prodded with a stick

but thank you

oh no
no no no no
AirNZ's latest flight video features the Hoff

just one reason i have an evil os despite my nerdity and geekitude and having downloaded linux onto several boxes of floppy disks via 9600 baud modem in about 1993
boycott!

no, it's all good -- I'm kinda promiscuous as far as OS selection goes

7:23 PM
I'm a geek and a half, but sitting happy with XP on my lappy
ok that was NOT supposed to rhyme

i can't touch those evil mcproducts though

i'd rather have a mcburger than a mcphone or mcpad
i would like a non evil tablet in a year or two though or when this rubbish hp netbook dies

never owned an Apple product. Not because I'm not a fan of Apple, just never needed a music player, prefer cheap netbooks and like messing with my Android OS phone :)
surprised at how many rooms in Vancouver are shared rooms - not just shared apartments, but multiple beds in a room
downvotes on my delhi belly question. Clearly they've never experienced the pain :(

those are flophouses. bondi is full of them too

7:30 PM
flophouses? those sound illegal..

rent is high and people are willing to compromise a lot to be in the place at a price they can almost but not quite afford
in bondi there are indeed many illegal hostels
i had no poo problems on this whole trip > 4 months now \o/
other than needing to go with no dunny nearby

damn you. I had about 3 weeks of liquid pain in Uzbekistan through to Tajikistan
as did almost every other traveller there

re

fine after that until Mongolia

i eat as much bizarre street food as i can find but it just ain't workin' this time

7:32 PM
from anecdotal experience, berries work wonders

berries?

yeah, I always forget which is which, but I guess.. raspberries?

as in high in fiber berries that help movement increase??

uhhh.. yeah

wouldn't be the first time something counterintuitive worked tho - that's one of the reasons I put the question forward.
also, I could only think of one relevant tag for that question - health. Any other suggestions, perhaps I'm feeling unimaginative today
let me rephrase - could only think of one non-offensive tag ;)

7:35 PM
my anti poo recipe is lots of bread, lots of water, a couple of bananas, and a drinking yoghurt

and cocal cola

immodium is so evil the iMcJobs can have it

you don't trust in immodium?

i do coca cola for belly ailments rather than poo ailments

7:36 PM
yeah, Coca Cola for the win when backpacking, cheap, fills me up and gives me energy. Yes, I realise it's not terribly healthy tho ;)
Immodium is fantastic for stopping the symptoms, doesn't necessarily solve the problem

it not so unhealthy either ;)

i don't like the feeling of immodium like something evil and alien sucking somewhere inside me

but with a 24 hour bus ride ahead, when desperate, take it for sure

yeah but if you have to be poopfree it is a good choice

oh good grief @Roflcoptr, your answer is hilarious

7:37 PM
"one for the road"

i don't like coke but i trust my body when it craves it that there must be something in it i need now and then that my body is too dump to crave elsewhere

for this reason i never book bus rides in advance (-:

haha
but what if you've finished everything to do in a country (lietchenstein, for example) - do you wait out the stomach issues, or take immodium and get on a bus :)

7:38 PM
also booking bus rides in advance causes you to hook up with awesome chicks the night before

(or walk the 20ft to another country, I suppose)

that's why you don't book an accomondation

my time is almost up on this coffee wifi, so if I vanish, chat later

now it's always the awesome chick who has a bus ride booked for the next day so i can't beat that devil either way (-;
no then i stay around liechtenstein and do stackexchange while eating yummy local bread
but i realize my very soft schedules don't work for everyone

yes i agree with you
if i get sick (as happend this summer in helsinki and prague) i postpone my travel plans and wait until i get more or less ok

7:41 PM
sadly booked bus rides don't help with hooking up with ordinary chicks you don't care if you don't see again

or use the device you so helpfully linked to

yes ;)

somebody linked to a butt plug? terrible
i have a question: Where is the temperature knob for Albania?

too hot?

I just want to turn it up three or four degrees
i partied with liechtensteiners before - it was a great night

7:43 PM
surely the locals offer some high-proof beverage of uncertain origin and distillation technique

but there aren't a lot of places to go

yes they do and furthermore i have photos to prove it!

ah you remember the saying pics or it didn't happen? :D
can you remember the name of the location you were?

anyone want some hostel rakia?

hosel?

7:46 PM
omg

oh man, this reminds me of Bulgaria in the 90s, when people didn't have quality stills
(now all moonshiners need to be licensed and are inspected regularly)
you are actually in the right season there.. distillation should start in a few weeks, if it hasn't already

/me hands out straws to everybody present

it's a one-of-a-kind event, distilling rakia.. sitting on a table, taking care of the "cheverme" (whole roasted pig), keeping an eye on the still, and sampling each and every batch, while it's still hot
ah, memories.. or lack thereof

hehe it's actually the gear to pump the water up high so the shower can have some very marginal pressure. but i took the photo with intention of lying in facebook about it being moonshine
woah now you're making me miss something i didn't experience )-:

you absolutely must, if drinking is your thing
this equipment is also used during fermentation, to make sure everything is properly mixed
getting out the liquid from the bottom of the barrel, and then adding it again on the top

7:51 PM
the prince of liechtenstein isn't poor. reminds of a line from pulp fiction (-:

yes?

actually i'm not a big fan of rakia but i did visit some distilleries of both tequila and mezcal in mexico
@Roflcoptr: not the same line at all really but enough to trigger the memory and amusement

ah ok :D

when mr wolf needs the sheets to clean up the car and asks if quentin's characters's aunt and uncle are millionaires

almost the same :D

7:54 PM
oh in english "a firework" means just a single bang

oh
how you call it?
if there a lot of big bangs? :D
fireworks?

naked urls..

ooh "sportive" my other favourite euroenglish term after "touristic"! (-:

lol :D
i read sportive quite a lot

maybe a fireworks show
it's hard to translate when i'm shivering

7:56 PM
pyrotechniques?

we now have lots of advices and infos on sportive things in non touristic principalities

you can try a yoga technique -- repeat to yourself that you are an ice cube
and become one with the Force(tm)

then he feels even colder??

hmm, shouldn't that be Yoda technique (confused)

i am already feeling even colder so it must be working

7:57 PM
hahaha

so cold i feel! shivering i am!

of naked urls think you must

i think tonight ill dream about naked urls

yeah, I already see them, prodding me with their hyphens, ampersands and whatnot

oh baby
where do the naked urls go in the winter?

8:00 PM
they cuddle up to get warm

curling in front of the fire in Curland

well i never heard of that rock and it looks like you can't climb it but you can so i think you've got it right there. great answer

thank you, I'll be here all week

i'm looking for something to throw at that terrible comedian

I was about to think of some url pun, but maybe some other time..
@Roflcoptr: I wonder, is there rivalry between Liechtenstein and Luxembourg?

8:05 PM
Tom Au's advice makes me want to stay home and cook instead of see the world

no i'm not aware of

luxembourg is so big and important it is not even aware or liechtenstein's existence

why?
a lot of people confuse liechtenstein with luxembourd

just curious

and there is also a championship of small states in europe

8:06 PM
yeah, I know they are quite different

now andorra there's a groovy place to hang out

oh really?

in various sports, e.g. volleyball, tennis, swimming, etx
yes

i wasnt' into monaco because conspicously rich people give me the willies
but i've been dying to go to san marino for decades

its andorra, monaco, san marino, island, ireland, greenland, luxembourd, montenegro, cyprus

8:07 PM
it's just not conveniently enough located

well it's convenient if the French Rivierra is your thing

@hippietrail I really didn't like andorra... way to much shops and filling stations

in this case i bet brunei darassalam is jealous that it can't come play with you eurotinies

monaco i just visisted once on the way to lisbon
what are eurotinies??

island = iceland

8:08 PM
yes ;)
iceland :D

hehe vatican is too small even for you guys d-;

4sure

but those Swiss guards are probably good athletes

oh monaco is conveniently located. san marino is not

yes those swiss guards really have to be in good shape
but san marino is located nicely
directly on a big rock

8:10 PM
well yeah but you can look past all the shops and filling stations and stay in the guesthouse with the old guys and go to a local pub where no tourist ever goes and eat snails!!

yes that's true

boiled snails with rice, mmm

i have to add that i just stayed there overnight.. was unfortunately in a hurry on the way home...
we were in madrid and I had to work the next day

eurotinies is an important word that i'm surprised i had to go to the trouble of inventing to cover all the tiny countries in europe but not the tiny countries beyond europe

so it wasn't time for a long visit ;)
ah
i see :D
@martin

8:12 PM
my other favourite parts about andorra was the bus ride up up up through several layers of the atmosphere and stratosphere from hot sunny spain through rain and sleet and finally snow

yes that's really cool

i think i had two days. there was one other backpacker on my bus, a japanese guy

how the weather can change there
we had 30 degrees in madrid and then in the evening it was snowing in andorra :D

and the next morning we traipsed around making the first footprints in the virgin snow

(Y)

8:14 PM
allright, I'm out to save the world.. take care guys

cya!

8:25 PM
hmm what can we do here without martin?
we can sit around telling liechteinstein stories

8:41 PM
maybe :d
or we can work :D

like a paid job? with a boss?

yes ;)
i have to work a little bit tonight...

9:00 PM
i shall begin to produce a 3d copy of the town i'm staying in

why that?
just for fun?

yeah

nice idea

you can see the previous version

where?

ok I'm back for a bit
at the YVR airport waiting to see if my friend gets through passport control
if I dream of naked URLs tonight, I know who to blame

internet can cause addiction
ooh yeah

eating Kung Pao chicken at the airport
wonder if this will give me Delhi Belly
or Beaver fever or whatever it's called here

i want to answer that i just expect to get sick at least once when i travel but it's not really answering what you asked so i'm not answering
you can afford to eat at airports?
i ate my first ever genuine original albanian toasty at the hostel
sorry were you talking about naked urls again?

oh no
switch to naked girls please
for example this one

9:26 PM
well i thought i was joking but googling "gastroenteritis prophylaxis OR prophylactic" seems to actually return stuff

I'm on my last week of travel, the budget is kinda going out the window
plus I'm really really hungry ;)

my travel budget works the opposite way to yours. i become more of a pennypincher as the pennies get fewer

was feeling tired and off so hadn't eaten since brunch yesterday!
lol

i've been known to look for food outside the airport

maybe it's the feeling that I'll lose travel, so making the most of it now

9:28 PM
ah post gastro recovery hunger? (-:

could be a while before I go anywhere
although my cousin's wedding is in Aus in January
possibly :)

last trip i walked three hours home from the airport with my heavy backpack in a pathetic attempt to keep the travel feeling to the very last second
that's similar but not the same to going anywhere (-:

haha, I'm considering doing that on arrival in Chch
yeah, the feeling of setting off from London vaguely 'towards Mongolia' was something pretty special.

i think they snuch out a new version of photosynth. it's constantly amazing me. here is an ancient destroyed minaret that albania didn't bother to block casual tourist access to: photosynth.net/…
my friend in kuwait is getting antsy about when i'm going to hitchhike to his place

crazy, minarets in Albania!
because he wants a timeline, or because he thinks you'll step on a landmine?
these were alongside the road we were on in Tajikistan, on the border with Afghanistan: gdb.rferl.org/…
if the iPhone 5 isn't announced tomorrow, it's going to be a funny tech news day :)

9:34 PM
i was losing the light though and there was who knows what icky stuffs inside so i didn't ballsily climb all the way
i think he wants a timeline and he misses travelling
graphic!
better than my croatian one. did you see that?
feel free to ask me to stop spamming you with my 3d masterpieces: photosynth.net/…

its interesting

lol, yeah very graphic, gets the message across at least!
damn photosynth is cool

i have massive ones in there of bondi beach and hoxha's mausoleum in tirane
a rotting communist era monument in sofia, and of course the famous cathedral worked really well too
all you need is windows and a digicam

9:50 PM
yeah I played with it when it first came out, looks a lot better now
right, flight landed, better go see if he makes it in.

this one worked well too: photosynth.net/…
